LABOR DAY IN AMERICA!

“The First Labor Day
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.
In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.”

Although, many people continue to work today in spite of it being a holiday of rest for the working man or woman, most have no choice due to the necessity of their type of work. Hospitals are open, law enforcement and fire departments are all necessary to our infrastructure to work well and of course for safety purposes. And retail stores have BIG sales, as we all know.
Then you have the military who work no matter what and businesses, such as the restaurants and also nursing homes’ staffs, and gosh there are quite a few aren’t there?

I stopped listing all the possibilities for they would take all day and all night too, but you get my drift.
On the whole, we as a country deserve to fulfill this day of rest, although, essential people are needed all of the time.

But if you have ever noticed over the years many people who are part-timers are willing to step in for the full-time personnel. And during this time they could be not much different from the understudies that wait in the wings for a star to miss a night, but not due to illness of course, they would never wish that on anyone, well maybe not.
Oh no, I suppose another way for someone to miss a night would be due to passing on, and no, I didn't mean that either!
Perhaps, another member of their family needed them or they had a nice happy date, personal or career-wise or something else fun to do, who knows, but never that other horrid possibility, no, never.

Now you really should think that in all professions there are people who are underutilized and are waiting for their big day to prove themselves.
And today could've been their day.
So when professionals and others not quite there yet get their chance to demonstrate themselves, it's a wonderful idea and everyone can benefit from doing this.
I see it on the TV shows, especially the news programs, where the fresh out of college kids get their chance to show their stuff; and they, by in far, mostly succeed!
We, as consumers of all types of products including what we see are very lucky, that many of these people that are chosen are excellent in their fields and that they have been selected it is a win, win situation for all of us.

In closing, I just want to say that this day is one that means a lot to our work force, and always has for over 100 years.
So the next time you get sick on a holiday and the main staff at a hospital is the second string, don't get angry, and think about what I just said. We all need to know that we are just parts of the bigger picture and that sometimes although, decisions are made that have nothing to do with us; it is the time when we should learn to be the most understanding.

When I think of what I just said, I can remember a time back in 1983 when I became hospitalized for my back injury due to an accident and it was Columbus Day weekend and they almost killed me; forget what I just said…
Hospitals should have the best doctors and nurses available all of the time and that is on holidays too!
Not funny at all, that was when I was injected with opiates while in traction, and they had to call for a crash cart! Sadly, it wasn't the first time they injected me, they did it numerous times, so that's why it's not a good idea to have the second string in hospitals even during holidays. I re-iterate, NOT GOOD!

Now, people may disagree with me and say that could happen with any doctors or nurses, since it was more than likely an allergic reaction. Well, that is why I bought a physicians desk reference book when I was well enough to get one and according to what I read only 1% have that reaction to those medications, though some may conclude that I was that 1%, and I have a tendency to agree, but must I remind you I'm no doctor. Also, here's where there was a problem, in order to get a hold of my doctor they had to call him in Hawaii, while this was happening in New Jersey, then. To be honest in my case, it was as they say the perfect storm. Who knows if the outcome would have been any different, you're right and so there is no blanket reasoning for any logical result or any different effect. And no, I did not sue. I thought about it and instead when the doctor kept sending me a bill, his personal bill my co-pay to him since I was insured at the time and it was other than the hospital bill for his services. I called his office and told him what had happened, but of course he knew, and that I felt he should not be paid and he agreed. It was only a couple hundred bucks, at that time not that much for me since we were in business and not that much for him either.

On that ending, I hear you saying finally, allow me to wish you all a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS all mistakes are recently more enhanced, guess what Dragon also has a problem with words that sound the same but mean different things, homophones and homonyms! So please bear with me for the next few months while I try hard to fine tune this program, thank you the management!
