Hubby had his eye doc appointment today, and he is needing thrice surgeries all within a month of each other.
Both eyes cataracts are at the point of necessary removal, and they are scheduled a week apart, plus his eyelids are drooping and he has some unsightly growths surrounding his below his eyes, the month after. Sorry Honey, but they are nasty looking and might even need biopsies due to his sun exposure.
Insurance is on board.
Scheduling was made.
Transportation was being arranged, since I do not drive anymore, when a call on the other line beeped in... it was Dr. Nord's, the internist, office saying that Hubby needed to come in before they would give him the referral!
Hubby was still talking to McKinna the very nice representative from his Advantage United Healthcare when they were trying to reach Hubby and so first he asked them to call back and then he said that I could call them, and so I did.
They wouldn't let me talk to them due to Hubby's HIPPA rights of privacy, and this was even after he told them that they could, since he was on the other phone busy with his insurance trying to figure out transportation.
The rule is that he needs a responsible adult to accompany him after surgery.
They do have a van at the facility, but it is not ADA, that is odd...hmm... any-who so that was the dilemma we were trying to solve when this other glitch cause chimed in; the very BIG one NO REFERRAL!
Hubby and I insisted that he had been in just this past March, and the relationship with the eye doc was established since 2014 when he said that Hubby would know when he needed the surgeries.
And so he did and so he made the appointment for today and the surgeon agreed both eyes needed to be done.
Hubby is allowed with his United Healthcare Advantage card one free (no co-pay)
office internist visit a year, and last March first he had that one, and he has been well and so he felt why go in otherwise. It was called a "wellness visit" and included blood work and other testing that he passed with flying colors.
So why were they being so ornery about this referral?
Anyway, Hubby held his ground and McKinna even made a conference call two times with nurses in doctor Nord's office, and each time they hung up during the heated without reason discussion, Hubby asked if Dr. Nord even knew what was going on? That seemed to promote the last hangup...
McKinna the United Healthcare representative was surprised and baffled too by their behavior.
She had been trying to find all ways to help the situation to be resolved, and after the last hang up while Hubby and she were still talking another call waiting call came in from Dr. Nord's office, Christian from there said they sent over the referral to the eye doc's office!
GEEZ WHIZ!
Stop the insanity!
Guess now is the time to definitely find a new internist for both of us!
Number One Son had also called while this was all going on and Hubby told him that he would call him back, so I called him since hubby was very busy and told him all about all the baloney!
Initially I wanted to ask him to come down to help with transporting his Dad from the doc's surgeries, but Hubby didn't want me to bother him. Number One Son said that he has lots of earned days off that he has to use up before the end of the year, so he would be happy to help. But Hubby said he wants him to come down for fun things like fishing, not waiting around for his Dad in surgery.
We, Hubby and I came to the conclusion that Dial-A-Ride, a mini bus service for the county, would be the answer if we had exact times info.
For handicap people it is a free service and for Hubby it would be only a dollar or possibly free due to it being a medical situation, and they are ADA accessible too!
Whew! What a day.
On the upside we ate out lunch at Olympia's restaurant, and brought half home and had that for dinner!
The mail came late, and in the mail was an invite from Copaxone my MS medication that I have been on for seven and half years, for a dinner and talk at one of our favorite restaurants that used to be Jack's on Marion, and so of course we said yes!
It's this week and after the day we had this was a pleasant reprieve to the day!
Help the world!
