Tempers flair!

I have taken issue with and have gotten quite annoyed with people who actually never experienced a hurricane and take cavalier attitudes with others who have genuine concerns for systems that are predicted to be a major catastrophic hurricane.
What annoys me is the assumptions of so-called intelligent people that you are foolish or crazy to be very concerned!
They have never been in a home being destroyed by a Cat 4 with you in it!
Or helped after in the devastation of the likes of a cat 5 such as Andrew!

Ignorance, lack of relatability, no compassion?

That said, it does appear now that we are looking more likely to NOT be in the direct alignment with the wrath of Irma, yay. But the path has changed several times so we continue watch and listen and to stay informed. Hubby has determined that we do not have to evacuate, and although our county of Charlotte had declared a state of emergency and gave the children off from school Thursday and Friday, no shelters have been open, yet. The schools are usually used for that purpose, apparently some did not get that memo since they tried going into the schools today while they were in session!
South Collier, Monroe and Miami/ Dade counties are still in dangerous territory and have been told to evacuate, Irma will be down to a cat 4 by the time she reaches them, still horrifically damaging.

We are considered in the red zone on the west coast for evacuations, due to being situated on a saltwater canal minutes from the harbor and then the Gulf of Mexico by boat. And still our emergency management feel there is no necessity to evacuate us, so that should be reassuring.

Although, we are still in the cone of concern the news medias keep reminding us, but Irma will be making a slight, enough, turn to the north east or not?
They, "the professional soothsayers" in the field of weather predictions insist there is always that wobble factor or some other such adjective descriptions of why we must stay tuned!

This has been a roller coaster ride metaphorically speaking, direct hit no direct, maybe.
So whether or not you have any previous experience with these things, your nerves can be tested only due to your own desire to be well informed!

To be fair, sure its a crap shoot this predicting thingy.
And I can tell you first hand that it was down to the wire with Hurricane Charley August 13.2004 that was going to go to Tampa one hundred miles north of here, and the last minute took that horrific right that Cat 4 nasty destroyer of everything, like a war zone!
And yet ten miles north and beyond was left unscathed.

Ask me if I am happy that Hubby has determined that we do not have to evacuate, no storm surge and the most we might get is tropical winds below 74 mph, sounds safer... but.

You see, Hubby was trained, while a fire chief in NJ, in emergency management in 1984 and used his knowledge while a deputy here in Florida as well on the county's First In Team and yearly went to hurricane conferences.
So I trust his opinion.

Lester Holt just came on NBC stating the we in Florida are in for a major hit from Hurricane Irma, WOW clarified on our east coast!

Either way a one two punch with Al Roker backing him up with the clarification!

Good night to all and to all be safe.
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
