Amelia Island Florida, our personal favorite!

321miles from Amelia Island Florida to Port Charlotte Florida, and vice versa. Water and marinas and trains oh my! First the welcome center where the woman, Barbara was quite helpful with maps and pamphlets, helping us to plan our itinerary, also a New Jersey transplant from Atlantic County below Atlantic City, NJ.
Access to their museum was a breeze and quite interesting, notice the ramp.Although the aged docent seem to be misinformed about the anniversary in St. Augustine, Michael Keating( I joked Alex P. Keaton, similar but not really to Michael J. Fox's character on Family Ties, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Ties.)He had said that St. Augustine was celebrating their 500th not their 450th, but it is their 450th!He probably had twenty years on me. Otherwise all was interesting, and he suggested visiting Kingsley Plantation, the story was NOT quite what one would expect, all slaves we were told to hoe a quarter acre then do whatever they felt they wanted to do for the rest of the day in their private quarters on their own time. Kingsley, a white man married his African American wife and freed her and all his"slaves", all prior to the Civil War.The plantation was on the ocean and it is in the picture below the museum. Lastly, is the St. Johns Ferry we took on our way towards home.

Our favorite place and we would like to go back someday, that is to Amelia Island!
