This weekend is a time for all of America and the rest of the world...

To honor our Veterans; the old Veterans Day was November 11th , which would be this Sunday, but again things have changed to give the working folk and school children a three day holiday weekend. And since I am no longer either it’s none of my business why it is done; but I did feel the need to mention it. We, as a country have a long history of honoring the men and women who have fought for us to retain our freedoms, as well we should. Albeit, sadly not so with the return of our Viet Nam Veterans. It was the war that threw so many; not our valiant young people, which we were a part of then. Most felt the politics of the war itself was to blame, although, many who served in that war were treated harshly when they returned, some viciously, horrendously, unduly. We lost many friends in that war and Hubby was in high school and later had a college deferment. My brother fought in Korea and our younger son was in the Navy for six years. And yes, I was anti-war, but never ever anti-soldier. There was still the drafting of soldiers during the Viet Nam War, (some called it ‘a conflict’, yes, it was a WAR, the term conflict was the major part of the severe controversy), the draft which no longer exists has made it now truly an all volunteer armed services. Draft description: “Conscription is the compulsory enlistment of people in some sort of national service, most often military service”. Thanks to Wikipedia. I posted an amazing TV commercial that brought together the generations and the honesty of what a war hero is: http://moments.org/thank-you-for-your-service/ And to my chagrin not many watched it, or if they did they did not say anything… If you have a chance to watch it, it is quite poignant and says more in about sixty seconds than a chapter in any history book could tell, seriously! I hope that you take the time to watch it, it is truly awesome; and I approve this message…SORRY! Moving on… Days come and some days go and today was one that went fairly quickly. I wrote a message to the people, with very important agendas on topics that are near and dear to all of us that I appear to be receiving too many emails about with their interests to join and send on to others…Well, every time I have done that in the past I screw myself over, people don’t want me to ask them to join my quests, even when they are very worthwhile…And so I learned a while back not to pass these things on; even the ones generated by my own causes like Multiple Sclerosis and other ills… I have learned that some things are best kept close to the vest, not many, but some! Silly how some people are insulted by the most ridiculous things, which sadly baffles me. I do not sign petitions ever since my late teen years when I signed one to stop the Viet Nam War the group asking for us to sign their document were at our mall at the time, and it seemed like a great idea to me… Little did I know that the ‘students for a democratic society’: “This article is about the 1960s organization. For the more recent organization, see Students for a Democratic Society (2006 organization). Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was a student activist movement in the United States that was one of the main representations of the country's New Left. The organization developed and expanded rapidly in the mid-1960s before dissolving at its last convention in 1969. SDS has been an important influence on student organizing in the decades since its collapse. Participatory democracy, direct action, radicalism, student power, shoestring budgets, and its organizational structure are all present in varying degrees in current American student activist groups. Though various organizations have been formed in subsequent years as proposed national networks for left-wing student organizing, none has approached the scale of SDS, and most have lasted a few years at best.” Thanks to Wikipedia again. I soon had the FBI knocking on my parents’ door…and after I explained how non-informed I was about what they were… thinking they were a democratic teen group against the war, and how they explained what they were doing, which in a way they were…but…YEP ONE BIG BUT! And that is why I do not sign any petitions, OKAY? Any-who, so now you have more insight into my checkered past, and I do believe that I have explained this why before…now allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and ask you kindly to count all your blessings and we will too! And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
