Do this, do that...

If children only knew it never ever ends, oh what is that you so boldly asked? I know you didn’t, but let’s pretend that you may have, okay? Responsibility, but of course; if only when they were small the list of obligations to ourselves as well as others was an easy lesson, hmm? Go to sleep, wake up, eat your vegetables, and brush your teeth, bathe, change your undies…etc, etc, etc… The definition of responsibility is: liability, accountability, duty, dependability, conscientiousness, reliability and trustworthiness and many more adjectives of the descriptive realm… Which we all know are wonderful attributes that any young person should attain by the age of thirty? Kidding of course, much, much younger, since if they wait until then you may very well never ever get rid of them! BIG SMILE HERE! We had one that seemed to need a little nudge, while the other couldn’t leave soon enough; but neither stayed to that ripe old age of 30 when, in my opinion they all should have been fending for themselves, one was nearly 23 and commuted to college while living at home after graduation and working, while the other was 18 and went to college a distance away and had an apartment off campus. Just as well since we had moved into much smaller quarters and so he had nowhere to come to. Of course we split our nine rooms of furniture between them both! And as far as that goes… Gosh that was nearly eighteen years ago. So that is what is called empty nesting… to hear it these days, many don’t have that, either they have what is euphemistically called, “boomerang kids”, which at adulthood is a not true moniker. Or some folks at our age have had to move back with their adult/children, another oxymoron. Sadly, economics is the cause these days and probably not such a bad idea at either end of the spectrum. Communal living has been around forever. In Europe it is still considered appropriate for many generations to live in the same home, without any question what-so-ever…And to quote Martha Stewart, “It’s a good thing.” Although she would use that in discussing food, decorating or other homey ideas. Wait homey ideas; like sharing? Yep, we just need to find a new catchy name for it, how about “GENERATIONAL HIGH TENSION ADDING IN CARING AIDING AND ABETTING FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE, MARY, and CONSTANCE AND WHAT’S HIS/HER NAME?” Nah, too long how about: commune, kibbutz, group home, cooperative, or a community? Harmony comes to mind too; minus the sour notes. I am more than sure that when we live with people we truly care about a name doesn’t matter; at least that’s what Shakespeare said: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." So there you have it; we should all learn to accept all the differences in the world today for if we haven’t learned that by now…OH WELL, I feel another blog coming on me, but don’t worry, tomorrow’s another day! On that note of a little more sweet than tart, allow me to be the first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and we will too! And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
