Monday November 17th will be my husband's 59th birthday, and he will be NOT the same age as me for 7 ½ months again, but as we all know not even presidents get to celebrate their birthdays on their actual days anymore.
We are all slaves to time factors of availability of days off from jobs and other prearranged commitments, thus creating our celebratory times to not always coincide with the exact date of their original occurrence of them happening, we in other words grab the hip hooray when the accessibility is to all who care to venture in the occasion.
Got it?
And that is why we were having a birthday celebration four days before the actual time of my husband’s entre into this world; our son was off from work today and thus he trekked the 200 miles round trip to visit and tell his Dad happy birthday with medium fanfare and a lovely lunch at a sports bar restaurant!
Presidents are also allowed to celebrate together, but once long ago they had separate days to do that, now we have President’s Day on the third Monday of the month of February.
Years ago we had Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday, February 12, and George Washington’s Birthday on February 22, but it’s kind of nice that the two get to enjoy a day together although they never really met.
They lived in two different centuries, almost two different worlds when you think about it.
George was called the father of country being our first president and we all know Abe freed the slaves that George actually kept.
I really don’t think they would have had much to discuss being so unlike minded and all, but who knows.
Anyway, holidays have changed for convenience over the years somehow some brilliant person decided that we should have three day weekends, thus the Monday holidays.
Columbus Day used to be October 12, did you know?
Now it arrives when the second Monday of October does.
Martin Luther King’s birthday is actually January 15th but unfortunately that too has lost its original date, and became the third Monday in January.
But somehow I bet you all knew that.
This is one of the latest nights that I have entered my Blog, but I feel obligated to myself to accomplish what I feel is a promise to me; it is past 10:30 at night.
I am very tired at this point so I will close with my simple good night to all and to all respect the freedom to celebrate whenever you so desire.
Speaking My Mind is about: Tobi, who is a middle aged, no, oh all right a slightly over the hill woman with all the imperfections that go with that, and this concerns her daily life's perceptions and experiences.
