I wonder how I am sometimes
able to multi-task still but not like I used to.
On the repeat incorporated in
its storyline, a few years’ back cliffhanger of their wedding mishaps and
Castle’s car being driven off the road and in flames, fade to next season.
Oddly enough, a character in
this segment, the owner of Tildy’s Bar, Tildy, a nickname that my Mom would
have thought of as one for me, instead of this pseudonym in this blog.
Just an interesting
coincidence I suppose, but in their wedding of Murphy Law’s incidence with our very
fortunate forty-fourth anniversary just yesterday. No true correlation there
since one is fiction and ours is reality and went off very smoothly without a
hitch, thanks to my Mom and Dad.
Boy until all those TV shows
showing “Bridezillas” and all those horrendous
possibilities that happen to people when planning their weddings, I am doubly
proud that so many years later I cannot remember anything that devastating
occurring before during or after ours… or is it that we blank things out.
Without going into details we
did have some issues, but that day was ours in spite of it all, and to this day
so many tell us how beautiful our wedding was; and we had two hundred guests.
On a snowy Valentine’s/
Presidents’ Day weekend on a Saturday, like yesterday, at six thirty P.M. if I
recall, this is significant.
You see, my Mom always said
that I was born at six thirty P.M. but in the summer and how polite that was of
me to wait until she had her dinner. (Although, our guests had a buffet as well
as a sit down dinner and open bar and entertainment.)
We at the time liked that
they had combined Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays for our guests not feeling too
rushed to attend our wedding at the Maplewood Manor in Maplewood NJ on February 14, 1971.
But worries were the snow
coming down during it all, and thankfully as far as I know everyone made it
home safely.
We stayed our first night at
the Saddlebrook Marriott Hotel in the bridal suite, before our departure the
next day to our destination, Woodlock Pines in the Pocono’s in Hawley PA. Our
wedding party decorated our car at the Maplewood Manor parking lot and the next day at the
Marriot's, and even followed us to our destination. They used old cans and shoes I
think and wrote in some medium “just married”, on the trunk of my 66’ turquoise
Chevelle Malibu, Hubby had a Zenith Blue VW bug at the time, too small for our
entire luggage.
And no it was NOT a
heart-shaped bed place, or even a specific to honeymooners, it was Hubby’s
family vacation place that I had agreed to. Our family was Catskill people.
Any-who, we were, welcomed
family style and they already knew me since I had visited there with Hubby’s
family during the summer. A fruit basket and champagne I think or that could
have been at the Marriott the night before. It is forty-four years ago, ya know.
They kept knocking on our
door to offer us things and we with all the snow were trying to get to know
each other, being just twenty, me, and Hubby just twenty-one, but they were
rather relentless!
More like parents trying too
hard to make sure you have a really, really good time…but we really, really
wanted to be left alone, if you know what I mean, just us and legal and all!
We did come out around day
three and found that the wedding party had gotten the car again!
I do believe we ate in the
restaurant a few times, mostly room service I think…we went tobogganing and
Geez not much else… we actually came home early from our honeymoon by two days.
Some wondered why we never
went back there on our anniversaries, well since they are always in the middle
of winter and since then we realized we are more beach people than snow people
that could be part of it…although, don’t get me wrong they were very nice, but
the worse place to go for a romantic honeymoon is a family oriented place in
the dead of a winter snowstorm.
You see, now we have the type
of lifestyle here in Florida,
in spite of my ills, we live in a wonderful vacationland that many now wish
they had.
So on that note of flaunting
a little bit of why I prefer sun to snow, and so does Hubby and our sons who
even after they grew up chose to live here…allow me to be the very first to
wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all
your blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!
And next time please be here
or be square, ya hear!
PS Oh alright it is true we
moved here fifteen years later, but that was because I was so close to my
parents but when they passed away that is when we finally did move here, but
visited often prior to that.
