Today's fair...

All you can eat Indian food buffet for $10.00! Plus eat in or take out with many other choices.
In Port Charlotte Florida!
Recommended by my physical therapist Sanjeev.
Very delish, and spicy, as I like it. Hubby enjoyed it too, even the spiciness to my surprise somewhat he liked, but not totally. He's not into spiciness like I am. Curry is very healthy too!

Question: Is Indian food healthy?

How healthy is Indian food? (Thinkstock photos/Getty Images)
We love our dal-chawal, roti-subzi, idli-sambhar, macch-bhaat. Not only is Indian food diverse but also changes every 10 kilometres. Enriched with different varieties of dals, subzis, rotis, rice and an infinite category of fruits, Indian cuisine is colourful in every aspect.
According to our ancient Indian science, Ayurveda, Indian food is complete and enough for our bodies. The dependence on foreign foods is not required as our legumes, beans, grains, fruits and vegetables provide us with ample amount of fiber, fat, carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins and minerals.
Despite the fact that we are predominantly a vegetarian nation, our foods are sufficient enough to make us nutritionally efficient. Even though we may be obsessed with our rice and roti, our traditional Indian diet composes of healthy ingredients. Despite this, we are often acknowledged as the diabetes capital of the world along with adult and child obesity threatening an average Indian's health. So, what really hurts our nutrient quotient, our grandmother's recipes or new modern living techniques? Let us find:
The staple Indian diet consists of roti, rice, dal, chutney, pickle, beans and legumes along with meat or chicken or fish. These can vary from region to region with addition of several other components, but listing them here will be an impossible task.
Let's look at the nutrient quotient of some of these everyday food items we consume:
- Roti: 85 calories per roti with a 6'' diameter. Fat content - 0.5gms.
- Dal (urad) with tadka: 154 calories per 150gms. Fat content - 6gms
- Rajma/chana/lobhia: 153 calories per 150gms. Fat content - 5gms
- Average mixed vegetable: 142 calories per 150gms. Fat content - 15gms (based on oil usage)
- Average chicken curry: 300 calories per 100gms. Fat content - 15 to 35gms (based on oil and types of cut - skinless, lean etc)
- Plain dosa: 125 calories per medium dosa. Fat content - 3gms
- Idlis: 132 calorier for two. Fat content: 3gms
- Curd rice: 190 calories per 100gms. Fat content: 7gms
- Coconut rice: 368 calories per 100gms. Fat content: 15gms
By now, it is clear enough that an average day's diet is mostly balanced with proper amount of carbs, fats, fiber and proteins. Curd, beans, lentils, chicken, fish or meat not only provide essential amino acids, but are also good sources of healthy fats and is low in calories. Therefore, it is safe to say that a typical Indian meal comprises of good carbs, healthy natural protein and resistant starch which is beneficial in weight loss.
While we know how healthy Indian food is, where we often go wrong with is our over-indulgence in fried Indian snacks. These are usually consumed after 6 pm and result in bulging tummies and high fat percentages. This is the first step towards all kinds of lifestyle issues like diabetes, thyroid, obesity, pcod etc.
Some basic tweaks in your everyday diet can help you keep problems at bay.
1.Controlling your portion size: Every extra roti on your plate adds an extra 80-90 calories. Similarly, an additional serving of rice adds 100 calories.
2.Refrain from fried food: Since we often hog on fried snacks, opting for boiled, steamed, pressure-cooked, sauteed or broiled food. The method of cooking really helps preserve the nutrient quotient of food.

3.Reducing salt intake: As Indians, we tend to eat dinner post 8 pm. Sodium retains water in the body and hence leads to you feeling groggy in the morning. Since our salt consumption is high through the day, start reducing your intake by half teaspoon.
4.Cutting back on artificial sugar: Sticking to natural sugars like honey, cinnamon, fruit sugar is a better idea if you want to keep your body measures in check.

5.Spices: Indian cuisine is rich in whole spices. Let your food be cooked with whole spices like kadi patta, cardamom and cinnamon. Rather than using more fat to flavour your food, use spices.
6.Relying on grains: Don't only limit yourself to atta rotis, you can try different varieties like bajra, jowar, makki, or dry dals to make delicious rotis."

Well, that was quite enlightening, wasn't it?

Never underestimate the power of...

telling the truth.
Executives do call back and try to help, Shari from Gettel did, and she is the one who got to the bottom of an issue previously. And was responsible for firing one of the employees whose comment to Hubby was shockingly stupid, while speaking with him on the phone he asked him if he, Hubby, were drunk? We suggested he be spoken to and retrained, the employee, we never suggested firing him. Guess he was a wiseguy/mouth to her too, tough lady.
Absolutely, no reason to say anything of that nature, and of course not true, we are teetotalers these last few years!
Any-who, since we both have diminishing hearing we keep the phones mostly on speaker so we can hear both sides of most all conversations, and when Number One Son calls we can have a nice conversation. I am Hubby's back-up and he is mine. So listening is doubled, as well as the talking at times... oops.
We kid that we now have one brain too. (PS Not true.)

Moving on...

In the interim we have been looking into adding a motorized lift to our nothing wrong with our 2015 van with low, less than 13 K mileage from when we purchased it new in November of 2014.
The prices came in for the motorized lift within the five thousand dollar realm; no where near 30 K; so not too pricey and doable, maybe.
Grants are available for the disabled through many non-profits.
And after all I did take CEUs in grant writing years ago, about fifteen, so maybe.

The whole reason for the trade in was to lower our monthly payments by $100 a month for wiggle room due to most other things are going up, like taxes, and insurances, including my supplemental monthly, gas, groceries, Rx insurance, etc. too. And although, Hubby's state pension gets its yearly 3% COLA's, our social security has not gone up much at all due to Medicare being higher, yes it is taken out of social security that we all paid into when we worked!

So balance is what we were trying for and the fact that I am getting worse with my MS and Hubby's back is getting bad too, so the manual ramp for my chair is becoming more difficult, it is rather weighty.
So all this aggravation in trying to make life a bit easier, although we may just have to give up on it... but my arms are getting weaker so using my strap to swing me into my seat after my chair gets up to the right height we never know how long that will last as per my neuro's testings.
So theoretically we actually might have no choice, but if we cannot get it done soon.
Oh well.

Here again this gal has spoken her mind, so that's it for now... you do it too, men and women should, i.e speak their minds!
Next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Happy Good Night Y'all!

Funny thing...

The worse I feel the more I want to leave our mini manse that I love.
Life is a line of inconsistencies.
Take today for example:
PT = Good experience
Ford = Not too bad
Firehouse Subs = GREAT! Server added Greek peppers into the rest of my salad that I took home as well as a pickle!
Honda = Honest
KIA = More expensive than presumed @ $150 dollars more a month than our Dodge for their vans, odd? ( Also Annie said they were less with all we had wanted when Hubby called from PT.)
Habitat For Humanity = wanted as much for their used kitchen door handles as the BIG Box stores, like Home Depot and Lowe's want for their new ones.
Sam's Club gas = was equal to some stations we had passed.
Applebee's = was as always GREAT and priced right!
Home = was warm and welcoming, no surprises there, and quite consistent!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

No place like home, there's no place like HOME and no ruby slippers were harmed in getting here!

Ta DA!

Speaking my mind and heart here nightly.
So be here or be square, ya hear!

Resolution (s)?

Definition of the word itself is confusing: 1. A firm decision to do or not to do something, 2. the act of solving a problem, dispute or contentious matter.
Putting those two definitions together you then gain a resolve to the resolution, therefore cancelling the whole concept out!
Ta DA!
So in other words the idea of a resolution is superfluous!
Carry on, with or without, is all I am saying.
Mums the word, shush. Permission to do as you please... do not feel obligated to make any at all!
That is unless you really, really, want to! Your choice!
Done and done.

Moving on...

For the purest of my readership who actual wonder about my current health status I will file this report: BAD!
Yup, been in bed most all day long, even walking with my walker with my Velcro Reebok ensconced feet in orthotics leather sport shoes still has made me unable to stand without pain to trips are the short to the lavatory facility and kitchen both less than twenty feet away, perhaps round trip?

Everyday I find the need for my soft cervical collar to be necessary more often than not in aiding me with soothing temporarily my neck and head pain, but only slightly.
My hand brace too has been used more as well... see BAD!

My eyes blur regularly, and my staccato touches, intention tremor, on this screen have lessened a wee bit, as well as my jumpy eyes, nystagmus, seem to appear more with over use or being tired, which seems to be my M.O. more often than not lately, tired that is.
Whew! That was exhausting; just thinking all that then writing it too.

These last couple of weeks for me have been not as joyful as for many others.

But I am happy for all of you!

Organizing thoughts when your head is mussed up makes it difficult to try to make sense, any.

If you have been noticing some nights my litany of my writer's voice is lessened, made smaller, shorter, due to lack or fear of boring you with all my true tales of woe.
As you can see here I have decided to say what the heck!

I used to be anonymous when I started writing this blog ten years ago this coming June.
One day/night I awoke/looked and there was my real name not my pseudonym, it happened in a blink of an eye!
At least it seemed that way to me, and before the nystagmus was happening, ha.

I have been able to keep other people's identities fairly confidential, that is unless I feel the need to out them by what they do and knowing that it is all true.

Oh dear, I am rambling.

This recitation is going all wrong... I had wanted to say something light, bright and flighty... nah that alone tells you my heart would not be sincerely in there.
I am also of the ilk that there are quite a few Pollyanna's in this world and for balance alone I should be heard speaking my mind, as I do daily here!

So Happy New Year to All and to all be real, yes speak your mind i.e. your good, bad and ugly without fear right here! Or really anywhere! Okay, just here where you know that you can be safe, but sadly no longer anonymous!

Oh well.

The Bad, The Good, and the mmmmmm, mmmmm good, part two!

Gettel Dodge Chrysler, Tamiami Trail Punta Gorda, FL

Magdella called our home at 8:45 A.M. first thing this morning, even after all her colleagues consistently told us that they had nothing for us or if they did they could not meet our needs or price range, we had requested them to stop calling and emailing, but they continued...so when we received a call stating that our price point and requirements could be met and that Danny had the exact van we needed a new 2018 Dodge like our 2015 with all our current bells and whistles plus a lift that I need for my motorized wheelchair and coming in at $100.00 less a month we foolishly went down to see it... Danny was not ready for our 11 A.M. pre arranged appointment so he handed us off to Ryan, and Ryan had no clue what was going on. We did meet Magdella in person, she seemed to be only told what they had and did not verify any of it, so innocent of the deception apparently, this very close to bait and switch scam... next thing Ryan wanted the keys to our van to take pictures of our manual ramp to make sure they would be giving us the identical one??????????????????????? I said the call from your department said you had one with a lift, he goes away for a few minutes asking Danny who still has not been involved except for intros...and Ryan comes back and says that the lift would be $30,000 additional! Any online or through organizations are around/average or less than $10,000, but after checking he comes back with the same "story" $30,000!
I blatantly say that is BS and tell him that our van only has 12,000 miles on it and the only reason we came down was due to the call stating the "NEW" van would  have a lift and be $100 a month less! LIARS! Not the first time either. Ever since they took over from Palm, we had bought our previous van from Palm as well as our Chevy! Never again will we be fooled by these scammers, and I think everyone should be very careful with this dishonest bunch. (cc to Yelp too)

Leroy's Southern Kitchen & Bar Marion Ave. Punta Gorda FL.

Ate lunch there for the first time; their lunch specials are only $8.99, and are well worth the price. I had their steak over Caesar salad with blue cheese and fries, delish and Hubby had their Reuben with fries also mighty tasty! Much of my salad and most of both fries came home, so much!
We both highly recommend trying anyone of their numerous choices.
They have different price points for more sophisticated palates as well. (cc to Yelp too)
Below are examples of Yarn Bombings at the Punta Gorda Farmer's Market... or as I prefer to call them yarn cozies! Actually at first tree cozies, until I saw the diversity of covers. ( In this day and age referring to anything as "bombing", can be frightful to some, like myself for one, no ha.)

The Happy Pickle, only at our Saturday's Farmer's Market in Punta Gorda, FL.
Pickled green tomatoes as I remember from my childhood at the hotels in the Catskills and as my Uncle Joe who also had Multiple Sclerosis used to make in his basement, until he couldn't anymore, he died decades ago.
Ahhhhh, memories, the grocery chains here do not carry them at all!

Any-who, I now know where to get my periodic fix for these apparent rare to find delicacies.

Speaking my mind once again.
Hope y'all do too!

Some things in life are great to be redundant, ya know?

And somewhat reassuring too!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Any-who, yesterday, last night I left you here with another cryptic message or mini blog, and for that I am vey sorry, well not very or really sorry, since who needs to apologize these days unless harming or insulting someone, truly, agreed?
Never solves anything in entirety anyway, but a nice lame jester, hmm?
Thus the knowledge of thinking before we speak or act again, oops my bad...

Although, none of that has anything to do with what I was going to say here tonight, really?
Last night I left any of you with more questions than answers I hope.
PT= my usual of massage, ultrasound, and icing my calves and feet, yup the whole shebang, boots back on too. Only due to cooler weather.( Don't get excited; just high sixties and seventies here folks!)
Number One Son= came down for a visit and from there, the sports rehab, we all went out to lunch at....= THE THAI CAFE!
From there we came home and went out on=our boat and saw a few pods of = dolphin, but they, the dolphin were too quick to snap any decent PICs of them, and I had a = body collapse on board our ship, where my body could not move off the seats and so the table was removed and the transporter was used to get me off our mini yacht and into the house with my two strong men doing all the difficult hard work heavy lifting of me, and we all voted on Bocca Lupo Coal Fired Pizza, one large pizza and a small, actually very large but their small Greek salad that my men picked up for dinner now around six P.M.! Ta DA!

Now are you and me back up to speed...?

Today was a free day, meaning nothing to do but stay in and rest.
Hubby did work in the yard and I did actually accomplish a load of towels in the laundry.

Still wobbly and spasms going on and off, what else is new?
This is one redundancy I can live without!
I much prefer my first pictorial one above; quite reassuring, ya think?

Speaking my mind, cause it is all I got.
Night all.

Speaking My Mind: Interesting familiar diagnosis for one and horrifi...

Speaking My Mind: Interesting familiar diagnosis for one and horrifi... :   But these are MINE! Not Hubby's! What he has is not contagio...
