"It is not our first rodeo, as the expression goes! We evacuated due to mandatory evacuations, but the surge was not as bad as they predicted! We still had 16" of seawater in the house, which had receded when we came back from Palm Beach, Delray, and on the walls was the line we measured. The smell became putrid, and I had worn my N95 mask from COVID-19 on and off as we disinfected our home. Fortunately, our power and internet came back on Saturday after we came home, so we could use our wet-dry vac and dehumidifier again and turn the central air system down while running the ceiling fans in each room!"
As I told my cousin recently after we arrived home...
We stayed at a very upscale hotel in Delray Beach that initially quoted us prices of $882.+ for a two-night stay, but when they tried to bill us nearly fifteen hundred I contacted the state gouging. It was the last room available anywhere we were told!
When I decided we should leave after only one night, PS due to the overwhelming lack of rooms away from the storm we had slept in our car in a Walmart parking lot the first night so when they had a room we jumped at that chance Opal Grand Oceanfront Resort Resort in Delray Beach. They on checkout charged us over $550+ for the one night when I told them I reported them for gouging, all of a a sudden they gave us discounts but ever since the other amounts keep showing up on our credit card and then subtracted over and over! CRAZY!
Anywho, we came home to a 16" waterline in our home fortunately the water had receded by then. We had no power and no generator, due to our never used brand new one being destroyed by Hurricane Helene having put it in our garage where previously the others had always been safe, but we also never ever flooded before HELENE!!! Only ten inches that time destroyed our $800 autostart gasoline or propane Westinghouse NEW whole house generator and of course, since no one had any due to demand!
We were lucky though in one respect... We also purchased a small generator for our small travel trailer! And so when food started to go we transferred it all to that RVs large refrigerator! Hubby did not want to sleep in it although it has a queen-sized bed, dinette, and large enough bathroom with even a bathtub and shower! The TV even worked due to having an antenna. So we ate meals in it and slept in our home...
Fortunately, our power was restored within two days of our coming home, internet too!
As we cleaned we realized the bottom kitchen cabinets and our appliances were all ruined due to the saltwater infiltrating them!
Foliage outside looks burnt due to the salty wind and water hitting even our nearly forty-foot Mango tree! Our coconut palm still lies where it fell, we had grown both from their nuts. Even the new avocados look destroyed but professionals say to leave them all alone and they will come back!
Our new fridge came today and furniture will be here Friday to replace one piece, our white leather recliner, Others have been ordered, as well as our new washer and dryer...
It is 1:50 A.M. yep the wee hours of the morning and so I will stop for now... TTYL?
My body clock is screwy! I am usually an early riser not a late go to bed gal!
Or I might be up for the day? Who knows...! So Good Night or Good Morning however you roll...!
Pictures will eventually come ... maybe. Rehashing them might be too upsetting...!
Allow me to introduce you to the crew...
