When we have compassion, at
times, it can be misconstrued as interfering; because the truly compassionate
person always wants to intervene when they see something wrong.
Is that caring too much?
Is there such a thing?
Many people are too afraid of
getting involved and that seems to be, at times, to me, sadly the majority.
And so when someone honestly
wants to help why should they be told to think about it?
It is a real conundrum in
life that has the possibilities of going either way?
I am talking about ordinary
people who do extraordinary things out of concern, not police or fire fighters
or EMS… in this state we do have the law
protecting people who act in the best interest of others, the Good Samaritan
Law, and I do believe it to be a national law:
“Question: Do all
states have "Good Samaritan" laws?
Answer: Basically, the answer is yes. However, it's not that
simple.
Good Samaritan
laws protect caregivers from prosecution for medical mistakes, as long as
the caregivers are acting in a voluntary manner without any expectation of
reward (like the good Samaritan from the Bible story). Caregivers can't make
gross medical errors, but instead are protected from liability for "reasonable"
mistakes. Of course, defining "reasonable" is difficult. Victims tend
to believe all medical mistakes are unreasonable.”For more information: http://firstaid.about.com/od/medicallegal/f/07_good_sam_law.htm
And so we all have to be cautioned in giving and taking and receiving information and specific help from people without credentials in the field, no matter how well intentioned they are; although, at times we have no choice.
With all these informational highways we can BING or GOOGLE or ASK or whatever all day long to get as many opinions/answers on topics as we like and the dissemination of what is true or right for us can also be infinite in all its value. So what is one to do? Find trusted sites with reputations in the field of interest, the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, etc. for medical inquiries, for nutrition Joy Bauer’s site, who is a noted nutritionist and a contributor to the Today show has a site available and so do many other legitimate illness sites.
Just for starters being helpful and an interested party in life is a very wonderful thing.
And I say that with the utmost love of all who do that sort of thing, help without being asked.
Why to me, these days, with Hubby pushing my wheelchair the smallest thing as of someone opening a door for us is just a tremendous gift of generosity, since so many doors are not automatic these days. I thank each and everyone who does this kind adaptation of good manners of what we were all taught as children. I used to do it for people too; even being a woman it is NOT just for men to be polite. You see someone with packages, elderly, pregnant, men or women, not only the disabled I used to do the door opening thingy. Now I call men/boys ‘gentlemen’ and women/girls, ‘gentlewomen’. And that usually brings a smile to their faces and of course I also give out a righteous “thank you”! Or say “it is nice to see chivalry is not dead” and smile with my “thank you”.
Little things mean more than you know and appreciation should be said then and there.
Moving on…
Today we did go back to the gym/rehab and I did complete all my routines/reps on all of the equipment.
Although, when we came in, my level, perhaps my hydration or glucose levels were low and so I hydrated. I also keep a Clementine in my purse just in case. I was dizzier than I had been and a bit nauseated.
It was cool enough outside to not wear my cooling vest in, it had been rain cooled outside into the seventies… but I brought the vest in for the exercising and it did help.
From there we went to Sonny’s for lunch with a 10% off coupon and then to Bed, Bath and Beyond for a battery powered, ‘As seen on TV’ floor sweeper with our 20% off coupon that every one gets from them. Hubby wanted something lightweight like the old Dust buster, our vacuum is so cumbersome, although this new one has a stick component, so there is no need to bend for quick clean ups on our tile floors, only the one bedroom, the guest-room, still has carpet and this thing works on that too.
On that note of a bit of normalcy, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we have too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
