President's Day!

Who remembers when Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, our sixteenth president’s was celebrated on its actual date the 12th of February? Or and that we also separately celebrated George Washington’s, our first president’s on his and my Mom’s and my paternal grandfather’s on February 22nd?

I know that you all did not separately celebrate my grandfather’s or my Mom’s birthdays, but good ole GW’s; I bet you did if you were alive then when we used to do that.

Interesting little note here, my Dad’s Dad was of course born in the 1880’s in Eastern Europe and in those days they did not keep such good records of births or deaths and so he wasn’t sure of his actual birth-date so he decided to share my Mom’s, since he said that he thought that he was born in February too, how sweet, but my Mom was born though in 1911. (Oddly enough grandpa's first name was Abraham!)

On this holiday as a child we would be taught all about these two significant presidents, but what I still do not understand is why only these two are celebrated not all of the ones we have had and have since.

Of course the significance of being the first in anything goes without speaking as a BIG DEAL for dear ole George; http://www.history.com/search?q=george%20washington but Abe’s significance is that he changed the world for the better: http://www.history.com/topics/us-presidents/abraham-lincoln
It is true to date we have had our share of interesting characters voted into the highest position of our land, but why not accept their negatives with their positives. Even a couple of them that were impeached turned out to be remembered for all the good that they actually did do…I’m just saying if we celebrated them all we must accept them warts and all, and in Lincoln’s case that would be a fact… well, bud dump bum... I’m just saying again…ha!

Moving on…

Tonight I leave you with many thoughts of this day.

Oh no?

How many truly understand why we do this?

Not me.

You?

Day off for schools, banks and the post office I suspect and another great sale day for retailers.

Ah America, got to love her! And YES she is a HER! That I do not know for sure either, but always willing to learn, guess like a ship?

On that note of another reality check with all our very patriotic holidays scrutinized, and again condensing the two presidents birthdays and making sure that it always made a three day holiday weekend is kinda neat, but not tried and true to the actual although works well for the many…but still a day here or a day there would be rather scattered and untidy, now I get it, it is for the love of neatness and that truly is neat…somewhere, some how, sometime, huh?

Allow me to tidy this all up with my own contrite wisdom and for me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to count those blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

As I write this tonight with a rerun of Castle in the background...

I wonder how I am sometimes able to multi-task still but not like I used to.

On the repeat incorporated in its storyline, a few years’ back cliffhanger of their wedding mishaps and Castle’s car being driven off the road and in flames, fade to next season.

Oddly enough, a character in this segment, the owner of Tildy’s Bar, Tildy, a nickname that my Mom would have thought of as one for me, instead of this pseudonym in this blog.

Just an interesting coincidence I suppose, but in their wedding of Murphy Law’s incidence with our very fortunate forty-fourth anniversary just yesterday. No true correlation there since one is fiction and ours is reality and went off very smoothly without a hitch, thanks to my Mom and Dad.

Boy until all those TV shows showing “Bridezillas”  and all those horrendous possibilities that happen to people when planning their weddings, I am doubly proud that so many years later I cannot remember anything that devastating occurring before during or after ours… or is it that we blank things out.

Without going into details we did have some issues, but that day was ours in spite of it all, and to this day so many tell us how beautiful our wedding was; and we had two hundred guests.

On a snowy Valentine’s/ Presidents’ Day weekend on a Saturday, like yesterday, at six thirty P.M. if I recall, this is significant.

You see, my Mom always said that I was born at six thirty P.M. but in the summer and how polite that was of me to wait until she had her dinner. (Although, our guests had a buffet as well as a sit down dinner and open bar and entertainment.)

We at the time liked that they had combined Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays for our guests not feeling too rushed to attend our wedding at the Maplewood Manor in Maplewood NJ on February 14, 1971.

But worries were the snow coming down during it all, and thankfully as far as I know everyone made it home safely.

We stayed our first night at the Saddlebrook Marriott Hotel in the bridal suite, before our departure the next day to our destination, Woodlock Pines in the Pocono’s in Hawley PA. Our wedding party decorated our car at the Maplewood Manor parking lot and the next day at the Marriot's, and even followed us to our destination. They used old cans and shoes I think and wrote in some medium “just married”, on the trunk of my 66’ turquoise Chevelle Malibu, Hubby had a Zenith Blue VW bug at the time, too small for our entire luggage.

And no it was NOT a heart-shaped bed place, or even a specific to honeymooners, it was Hubby’s family vacation place that I had agreed to. Our family was Catskill people.

Any-who, we were, welcomed family style and they already knew me since I had visited there with Hubby’s family during the summer. A fruit basket and champagne I think or that could have been at the Marriott the night before. It is forty-four years ago, ya know.

They kept knocking on our door to offer us things and we with all the snow were trying to get to know each other, being just twenty, me, and Hubby just twenty-one, but they were rather relentless!

More like parents trying too hard to make sure you have a really, really good time…but we really, really wanted to be left alone, if you know what I mean, just us and legal and all!

We did come out around day three and found that the wedding party had gotten the car again!

I do believe we ate in the restaurant a few times, mostly room service I think…we went tobogganing and Geez not much else… we actually came home early from our honeymoon by two days.

Some wondered why we never went back there on our anniversaries, well since they are always in the middle of winter and since then we realized we are more beach people than snow people that could be part of it…although, don’t get me wrong they were very nice, but the worse place to go for a romantic honeymoon is a family oriented place in the dead of a winter snowstorm.

You see, now we have the type of lifestyle here in Florida, in spite of my ills, we live in a wonderful vacationland that many now wish they had.

So on that note of flaunting a little bit of why I prefer sun to snow, and so does Hubby and our sons who even after they grew up chose to live here…allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS Oh alright it is true we moved here fifteen years later, but that was because I was so close to my parents but when they passed away that is when we finally did move here, but visited often prior to that.

More than singular sensations.

“One singular sensation” we’re all familiar with, but more than one? http://www.metrolyrics.com/one-lyrics-a-chorus-line.html

“One Lyrics

"One" was written by White, Maurice/bailey, Philip James.

One singular sensation, every little step she takes
One thrilling combination, every move that she makes
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do
You know you'll never be lonely with you-know-who
One moment in her presence and you can forget the rest
For the girl is second best to none, son
Oooh! Sigh! Give her your attention
Do I really have to mention she's the one
She walks into a room and you know she's
uncommonly rare, very unique
peripatetic, poetic and chic
She walks into a room and you know from her
maddening poise, effortless whirl
(One thrilling combination, every move that she makes
She's a special girl)
strolling
Can't help all of her qualities extolling
Loaded with charisma is ma
jauntily, sauntering, ambling, shambler
One, and you know you must
Shuffle along, join the parade
She's the quintessence of making the grade
This is whatcha call trav'ling!
Oh strut your stuff!
Can't get enough!
Ooh! Sigh! Give her your attention
Do I really have to mention
She's the one!

We all know that one!

But mine are two sensations that have been nasty all day long due to my Multiple Sclerosis and that is why this will be cut short tonight.

The itching is making me loony and the feeling of my right arm being broken is also quite difficult to contend with, and no I have no real cause for the itchiness except the neurological ones and the same goes for my right arm, since I did nothing to cause a break, but it is bruised by my wrist and my center finger feels as if it broke from its lowest end. After some snap research I have determined that both are just more nasty symptoms of my MS and caused neurologically. They also come and go but today have not been helped with simple extra strength Tylenol, and of course my medication that I lowered my quantity MG.’s of like the Gabapentin and Baclofen would be the ones to help with this problem in upped doses, but I will not increase them unless this goes on way too long, so far it is just today, but is quite debilitating, in other words stopped me in my tracks and caused me to crawl into bed.  And writing this with my two handed typing hurts like HELL!

I will bid you all a great rest of this Triskaidekaphobia day, a fear of Friday  the thirteenth, and Geez I thought I was over it by now…and put it on my back burner then something like this happens. It’s not exactly a devastating Hurricane Charley circa August 13th, 2004, a Friday event, but annoying and painful just the same.

So I will bid you all a happy eve before the sweet hearts day and enjoy your time together now and each and every day always…
Did I mention that tomorrow is our forty-fourth wedding anniversary? Sure I did!

On that note for something to look forward to allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

There ought to be a law!

So you go online and fill out the forms to be on that infamous, “DO NOT CALL LIST” and for some strange reason they keep calling; on our landline mostly, but occasionally on the cell phones too.
And yes, before you ask we have recently filled out the proper forms to not receive unwanted calls, again.

Thankfully, we have no bill collectors needing to contact us, since we have made sure we pay all the bills that we acquire, including our not having credit card balances each and every month; those are all paid in full too. And yet they call with offers to lower our cards interest rate, PS we only use two cards, and when you pay the balance every month there is no interest charged, so no need for us to deal with them.

But lately our caller I.D. has been not only giving us an out of area I.D. with a tape recorded message, but another has a Survey I.D. with nothing after, no recording or a live person speaking, so I hang up. At times I answer in odd sounding yeses or hellos, deep and masculine or high pitched and weird, making a game out of it. I swear that the next time someone asks for me by name I am willing to say that I am dead and perhaps that would stop it.

Although, when my Mom died and we contacted Reader’s Digest to discontinue her magazines they continued to send them and even sent new subscription bills to her. In those days in the 1980’s you called and spoke with a person in their subscription department too…Now my Dad was a living doll in temperament but this also made him very angry with them asking to renew her subscription to it, over and over again, and so to this day I have not ordered Reader’s Digest by mail or bought it in any store; since that left a bad taste in my mouth how they did not handle it well at all in my opinion and how that was so frustrating for my dear ole Dad.

We, Hubby and I have even hit the option to speak to a real person on the few that have that option and that is only due to our need to ask them to stop calling!
Nothing seems to work.

The ones on our personal cell phones are infrequent and have no number identity to call back or notify the attorney groups who have advertised on the TV that you are entitled to get as much as $1500 for these annoying calls, but Geez those are from the bill collector ones that hammer those poor people! I am more than sure if they had the money they would pay.

So in reality we do not qualify for that help of getting money for a very annoying problem.

I wonder how many of you out there get these daily issues of wastes of time and how do you handle them; is there an answer.

I suppose the best way is to use one of those loud horns or just hang up or…keep my little different voices game going, perhaps add in some foreign accents; my British one is pretty good and my Aussie ain’t half bad either, my Spanish is rather fun, my Parisian French is not too foo foo, just a bit over the top, ah Italia is amore and so I could really have one heck of a time if I plan ahead and now look forward to these asinine annoyances, oh what fun! BIG SMILE HERE.

You do it your way and I’ll do it mine, but I would not be upset if you shared how you handle this at times intolerant situation.

On that note of what’s up, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Assumptions

We as a generation of a society that fought for our brethren of minorities to have equal opportunities have an interesting vantage point to conduct opinions about many of the most recent groups that too may have been lumped together thinking that all the people to be the same in all aspects of their lives.

I recall from my childhood an idiom that “one bad apple spoils the whole bunch” mentality.

Although, I did live in a north eastern American suburb and to be frank many people utilized that expression in calling out bad behavior of a child in a group setting, not for racial, national origins or religious reasonings, just bad behavior. And the fear then was that that BAD BEHAVIOR would spread throughout that bunch. (AS would a box with apples go rotten from the host in it being already there, but not a land with people…oh wait WW11) Nazis come to mind for that large group of very BAD APPLES and infiltrating and brainwashing others who agreed with their politics…although this is not the same, or is it, no not all Muslims are Isis!

And sure many believe that when a group of people did act a certain way that perhaps though that many of the same people will believe that all of that particular group feels that it is all right to shun them or berate them, but no we all know that cannot and should not be an assumption of that being the case for the rest are more than likely NOT BAD APPLES, got it?

I think that it is unfair to think that way and as rational intelligent human beings I more than would expect for most decent folks NOT to assume otherwise! As we are free thinking people, all of us, not just certain ones it is definitely a likely reasoning.

Here is my idea of an example: Not all people who like the color blue are the same or the ones who enjoy the color red, might sometimes like blue and blue people might like red and on and on it can go, so oh no do not assume anything else! Simplicity at its finest!

Much to my chagrin people are categorizing all faiths that are not their own to be wrong!

Come on people where is the acceptance and understanding.

Being cautious in these times is prudent but being foolishly paranoid is just that foolish.

Prejudice is also quite unhealthy as all other forms of hate.

What set me off on this thought process was that one of my FB friends posted an article on 27% of people believing that a certain group to believe a particular negative way due to persons of that particular faith doing such and such…HORRIFIC acts but why would others believe that when a marginal portion of the people do that “bad apple” deal but most do not?

Is it just me not getting why just the “bad apples” should be held responsible not so many others?

All in all we have a long way to go in this world for total peace and understanding and while I wait for us to realize this is it people our only time lives and places to unite I truly hope that I live to hear or see it happen…

So I end tonight’s disconnected monologue with hopes that you all can translate some of what I said into a coherent opinionated usefulness of how this world has got to take care of itself but also not to fear, fear itself and so with that allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Time marches on...

And so shall we…nothing new there, hmm...

If you are waiting for me to follow that up with something poignant you may be waiting quite awhile.

Sometimes I feel the need to express the obvious.

Oh come on, you do too!

Every time I look at those quotes and notes you all post I have had a many a déjà vu experience, you too I suspect; ahhhhhh, honesty, what a concept, hmm.

You know it’s true.

Any-who, coming up with ideas for this hacking nightly journalistic, and I use the term loosely, love of mine is sometimes not as simple as you might think.

Many a night I create something from nothing, most nights actually…

Oops did I say/write that out loud.

Never mind.

Love those two simple words due to whom they remind me of… Gilda Radner, a hysterically funny woman who I knew only from afar of her being one of the members of the NRFPTP, not ready for prime time players on SNL, Saturday Night Live, circa 1975-1980; she, had her reign in the beginning of its inception. What a talent!

And this weekend SNL will be celebrating their fortieth anniversary and oddly enough Hubby and I will be celebrating our forty-fourth, wedding anniversary that is!

Gilda Radner died way too young a little over a month before her forty-third birthday back in 1989, from ovarian cancer. For more info, I recommend going to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilda_Radner

Many have issues with Wikipedia but since I am not as bright as the rest of you I find the information gleaned there to be helpful at times, but not always.

I do use many other sources for looking up many interests of mine when posting here most all nights, but for a quickie look-up I can only believe their information to be as accurate as whoever enters or edits it, as everything else written on here the Internet, true.

Which brings up a well regarded newsman, NBC’s Nightly News from New York, Brian Williams, who Hubby and I have been watching for years, we are saddened for his missteps/speaks on the job, but many well respected news people have been in that same situation over these many years. Some facts are easy enough to check and others may not be, and so whenever we watch anything or look up anything there is always the possibility that the info we think or feel is right on target later on can be disproved as accurate. His was a self story elaboration and I do not believe he wasn't out to get an award for bravery or had any other malicious intentions.

In the long run though I do not believe that Brian Williams spoke of his recollections to make us feel this way or that about him but not to be anointed with heroism, perhaps his addition to a harrowing experience that he witnessed or presumed that he did, oh I don’t know...who am I to judge him, really.

Sadly too many depend on these mere humans to be infallible, are you?

No! And neither am I, heaven knows I am definitely NOT!

None of us are.

Over the last several years that I have been doing this blog I found myself finding inaccuracy in our local on air journalist reports and I have caught them in their mistakes, and insisted that they should be better than that, since they get paid and I do not.

But if we all think about their lives as trying so hard to inform us when it is happening nearly immediately, come on how in the world can any of their sources consistently have that absolutely without flaws information available.

If we were able to truly use a time machine or be beamed immediately like in the Star Trek movies/shows to where the event is happening to me that is the only way we would know the absolute happenings occurrence and who, what, why and when and where all of the events.

But since that is not yet available to my knowledge and we most of us do not want to put ourselves in harms way, we will continue to have to rely on whatever reliable sources exist at this time, and they are vast, as we all know!

In closing this tonight these are just my thoughts out loud, no different than any other night.

On that note of whatever floats your reliability boat, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

OR...

NEVER MIND!

Speaking My Mind: Interesting familiar diagnosis for one and horrifi...

Speaking My Mind: Interesting familiar diagnosis for one and horrifi... :   But these are MINE! Not Hubby's! What he has is not contagio...
