Swim, swim, swim, swim...

YES! Today October 12, 2014 I was back in my swimming pool for the water decided to come up to temperature, my comfort zone of 86 degrees F! The air, dare I say reached ninety-five? I suppose we’re out of that cold spell, ha? At temps in the sixties it was a nice refreshing change for when we did not open our windows at night since the humidity was still up and fifty percent, more like seventy and ninety percent, ha!

Oh we have one of those solar blankets and Hubby used to put it over the pool for me but it’s a pain in the neck and the back taking it on and off and it’s too small to make a roller thing for it, like we had for our one up north but we had the solar panel too!

We also had solar panels on the roof of our home here that blew off, and it wasn't even a hurricane at the time, yep it does get windy here sometimes.

So Hubby is still putting together a parts list for making one like he did up north that was on the ground and angled toward the sun,( our backyard faces south, good for the winter but hot in the summer), and heavy duty. He had made one for the neighbor too a few years before we moved and the last time I spoke to them up in NJ a few years ago it was still functioning and that was done over thirty years ago! So Hubby knows he can do it, it’s just a matter of time and money but the cost is one sixth of the ones we had on the roof.

The pool was delightful and I found that I was able to do many things in there today like nearly my ole self; swimming by doing the breast stroke, and even the back stroke, but not the usual stroke/crawl; the reaching caused my ribs to feel horrid. So I listened to my body and did my leg circles in the deep end holding onto the railing and I was able to lift my legs higher than I had been since the pain started, getting stronger and better? BETTER!

I did try most everything for the lower half of my body, but no yellow elastic for arm stretches or Styrofoam weights, not good when that area is again hurting.

We finished the movie we started yesterday, Ender’s Game with quite a cast, circa 2013, genre Science Fiction Action : “Ender's Game is a 2013 American science fiction action film based on the novel of the same name by Orson Scott Card. Written and directed by Gavin Hood, the film stars Asa Butterfield as Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, an unusually gifted child who is sent to an advanced military academy in outer space to prepare for a future alien invasion. The supporting cast includes Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Ben Kingsley.

In the future, humanity is preparing to launch an attack on the homeworld of an alien race called the Formics who had attacked Earth fifty years earlier and killed millions. Gifted children are trained to become commanders of a new fleet for this attack.
Cadet Andrew "Ender" Wiggin draws the attention of Colonel Hyrum Graff and Major Gwen Anderson by his aptitude in simulated space combat. They order the removal of his monitor, signifying the end of the cadet program. Ender is beaten up by Stilson, a student he defeated in the combat sim, but Ender fights back and severely injures him. Ender confesses his grief to his older sister Valentine, but is harassed further by their older brother Peter. Graff arrives to announce Ender's entrance into Battle School. Graff places Ender with other cadets his age, but treats him as extraordinary, ostracizing him from the others.”

It did not do too well in the states but it has an incredible cast, although CGI is the true star of the movie as all similar ones in this genre and I do believe children of eight to sixteen age ranges might have enjoyed it better than I.

My warm shower after my pool time engulfed me in its splendid warmth and I was so looking forward to the popcorn that Hubby was kind enough to make and even so the atmosphere for the flick was just right… I suppose I’m more a romantic comedy gal.

On that note that is too telling, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS That’s not entirely true about only romantic comedies I do enjoy most anything with Harrison Ford in it and he has been known to do quite a few science fiction action films and I must admit I loved everyone of them and even the ones that weren’t!

New mail today

Two in fact from my most recent nemesis, Florida Blue.

No bills, just one survey about the nurse who called me for the last few months to help me with my ills.
I gave her fours on their scale from 1-5, one being not good at all and five being great, oddly enough, although she was pleasant I don’t recall her doing that much, except listening; can't fault her too much for her company’s issues.

I was also given access to a nutritionist too, who has only called me a couple of times, less than the R.N., and when asked questions about my medications interacting with food or the meds causing me to have a bigger appetite she appeared to be not at all well informed or definitely could not tell me, since she had no idea!
There seems to be a gap in the training with the R.N.s and the Nutritionists, neither can tell me if medications and foods have a good co-existence or is their definite problems with their interaction, nope, dead phone air from them both.

No questionnaire or survey about her work as of yet.
The other one was a notice telling me someone changed my password to access their site at Florida Blue.

OK, now this is too weird since they are correct, my access password/code has been changed I just tried to get into it… they finally got something right it!

And so I called their designated number for this issue and guess what there is no one on there, on their member help line until Monday!

So my privacy and all my medical secrets are available to whoever has the access code!

Now, if I wasn’t this person of complete openness that consistently tells all right here I would be possibly more concerned.
But why should I be?
Because someone has all my information!
And unless they are going to pay my bills I don’t like that at all!

Calm down, I am speaking to myself.
What else can I do, really?
It’s Saturday and no one is there to help me, although whoever has access can peek at all my tests and costs of those tests and determine the relevance of those tests I would somehow think… Why would anyone want or need access to any of that?
No one would.

I truly believe that this is some kind of weird mistake, although, my password doesn’t work, but I have forgotten many before and this wouldn’t be a first for that!
No, no way, nada, never, since it has happened before and often.
Why just today I had to find another password, but that was because my laptop crashed yesterday and we cleared the whole thing out and began again today with me redoing the whole shebang from soup to nuts… in other words reloading my browser of preference, my Facebook page and Blogger page, but so far my anti-virus I have not done yet, since for some reason it is giving me a free two month’s of my old one. Yep brand spanking new on that one…
Worries?
 Who’s got worries?

Moving on...

It’s not like I have residual affects from my vomiting two nights ago; oh yes I do!
I once again have pain in my rib cage area, this time encircling my body, and so you got that right I Googled what might have caused that? Actually, “vomiting and rib pain”, is what I searched for and sure enough there is a correlation, a sprain can very well ensue in the rib cage area due to harsh emptying of the stomach due to muscles there.

So I took the extra strength Tylenol that my Dr. Nord said would not interfere with all the other legal drugs I am on, and that was around three thirty, and it’s now  six thirty-five, and so far nothing? I took the prescribed two pills of 500mg. that it says on the bottle to take every six hours…!

Now I remember why I didn’t take Tylenol for some reason it doesn’t seem to work on me.
Shocker that I have been sitting here this long, since I cannot reach up and I have been mostly in the recliner today.
Would have gone into the pool too today if it had gone up to my comfort zone of 85 degrees F, but it did not!
At 81 degrees F, it was too cold and with me in pain as I am, I didn’t think that cold water would be that great an idea. Even the warm/hot shower didn’t help.
Maybe tomorrow the pool will go up to where I can find comfort in its coziness? Now that I think about it cold can help at first with an injury, hmm?

Any-who, on that note of distant hope, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Yucky!

I went to bed like most of us do, somewhere between, 9:30 P.M. and 10 P.M, sometimes after eleven. Many times I awake for the night time shows, Letterman and Craig.
And I awoke this time due to a headache, to beat the band, in the middle of the night!
Pain, of course is nothing new to me or to anybody else I am more than sure.
So why do I think “oh no!” when it awakes me out of a semi-deep sleep?

But last night was that kind of disturbing awakening that has me wondering if my eyes that are red (due to dry eye) too often I think that they are really infected with some nasty disease that has gone into my brain, ya know?
It is so painful and yet, as a young woman I had these types of headaches and at that time I was diagnosed with having allergic migraines! After six months of going for desensitizing injections I was cured!

Sure a migraine is a possibility since it did cause me to uncontrollably vomit several times for what seemed like a few hours but was only a little over an hour when all was said and done.
While all of this was going on, in between, I of course Googled it, and surprisingly the first things that shows up in my reliable goto Mayo Clinic info was sure enough, migraines.
I put in "headache with vomiting", of course there are more ominous causes also listed but I know, or at least I am pretty sure that I don’t have any of those…NOPE, I wouldn’t be writing tonight if that were the case.

The only issue I had with the snap dx I initiated was that I recalled when I had those nasty migraines, in my late twenties, nearly forty years ago, light was piercingly painful to me, and it would make it much worse. So I turned on the bathroom light and no, not a nasty reaction at all. But I did need to use the toilet again for releasing the discomfort in my tummy, via my mouth.
Then I thought food poisoning, but I didn’t have the right symptoms for that either.
All I know is the wet washcloths and the sinus saline and the eye drops and the coffee that usually has helped wasn’t working, but after it, and it appeared I had finally gotten rid of all the contents of my stomach, I did feel a bit better, I chose one lone Pepcid and tried to go back to bed…And it was around eight thirty or so when I awoke to a phone ringing, it was someone calling about Medicare and Hubby asked if they would call back this afternoon and they never did, I had gone back to bed around four that morning.

Dinner had been orange chicken that I had made with brown rice, nothing harsh there.

I felt bad that I had to miss exercise today I had been very dehydrated from my night’s disposal of my bodily fluids.
And the exercises have recently been causing me to sweat quite a bit, and for most people that is a good thing, but for me too much can cause my MS to exacerbate, since I am heat sensitive and I have been perspiring with my cooling vest even on.

I have basically been in and out of bed most of the morning through lunch time. Hubby made both breakfast and lunch. I had asked for oatmeal with a little bit of milk and honey and he was good enough to do that for me. Lunch was more difficult since we did not have canned chicken soup but we did have bullion soup packets, salt free that I use when I make my homemade soups.
So I told Hubby with the left over chicken breasts from last night chopped into bite size pieces and so also with frozen mixed veggies and mushrooms and onions and some garlic he was good to go! We had those wide no-egg noodles too and Hubby made them first and put three packets of chicken broth with three cups of water in the pot and he completed the whole thing in time for lunch, no problem! Of course we both needed to add salt and pepper to taste and so we did.

By dinner I felt better so I made some chops, baked sweet potato so big we shared the one, and asparagus.

Hubby had also made me some red Jell-O earlier and so now we have a bit of dessert too!

On that note I will probably take the weekend to feel better and I can’t wait to get back to the rehab to work out!
Monday, I hope. Now allow me to be the very first to wish all of you to have a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Learning is an ongoing process...

And even though I act, at times, like a know-it-all I do know that others know much more than me on so many different levels and topics it is truly amazing and with patience their knowledge could and should be tapped!

The problem is… with my journalistic training, if only for that short time, we are all brainwashed to ask those five extremely important questions of who, what, where, why, and when?
Sure you all know that those questions when speaking to regular folks might be considered of you of being way too nosy, hmm?

So, I have found over the last several years, after being told one time by a woman in a doctor’s waiting room who told me just what I said above, that I was way too nosy, which shut me down…I was hurt, but I knew in retrospect why she felt that, thought that and was exactly right about me.

My mode of getting to know people at one time used to be not unlike an interview style of a news woman or newspaper gal.

Those questions though have gotten me into too much trouble over the years and so I have since become the one to tell it all, whether anyone truly wants to know or not.
Some times it does work where when people who feel they know so much about you then feel comfortable to tell you a little if not more about themselves, and others are just plain bored to bits and run for their lives!

Well, not physically, metaphorically, by staying away, wait that is actual, therefore physically, any-who they then make sure not to ever again engage you in conversation or ask any questions of you with fear of you not stopping your litany and of you not stopping your litany, and on and on… nope not a typo duplication, a truism, ha!

These days I do so love the idea of meeting people but my procedural ways to progress in getting to know them has a dual fear. Of not showing the right amount of interest in what they are saying and trying to interject with appropriate questions or knowledgeable additions to show that I am listening and can relate!

Balance is a hard thing when you have either worked in managerial , teaching, and owner types businesses and volunteerism positions over your lifetime careers…You have the disadvantage of needing to be in control and knowledgeable as also informative.
Or as my shortened stint with a few by-lines and interviews for the newspaper, still being in charge, but due to my somewhat iffy listening skills I always tried to have a note pad to write down info/answers or a tape recorder, yep that is the way it was done way back then! Having a photographer to verify things afterwards or an editor with you was wonderful too!

I did have a couple of times I was left to my own devices thus the recorder camera and notebook!

I should have taken up the practice earlier on in my life for it was a pure joy doing that.
But I did enjoy the promotion business I had been in too, but neither choice would have been very profitable for me.
I did not have the credentials to become a staff reporter, and although promotion did not need any special training and it was a party going to work daily it was a commission position with a woman who was not totally honest with paying the monies she had owed me. Let’s put it this way she had to ask her husband for additional funds that she said were for me but paid the rent and phone bills, finally, of her office instead of me and when they cut off her phone she used our bag cell phone and racked up an enormous bill of over $600 bill and refused to pay it. Foolishly we loaned her the phone to keep her business afloat… and that my friends was over twenty-years ago! Her comment to me was that I was a volunteer, which sadly at first I had said I would work for free until I learned the business , but after I had booked some bands on my own and she had paid me those commissions I felt I was NO LONGER a volunteer!
Then she owed me thousands for more work and refused to pay me… sorry it was a nasty experience in a job that I really did love…

So many mistakes I have made over the years with poor judgment of people, too trusting…
Perhaps that is why they all baffle me and hurt me still even at this ripe old age.
Hubby and I have been fine with just the two of us lately and now some new folks want to be friendly, but it is difficult for me to go into these things full force…

But I am open and so is Hubby, I think…

Old friends are there but distant, literally yep only on Facebook, and safe since if we find something we don’t like we don’t say anything and the same with short conversations are much easier, since we know or remember the way we all were and when, what we were doing and why we were doing it and even where!

See, I incorporated all those questions into conversing with my ole schools chums from Gosh elementary school some, quite a few actually and one from high school … and even a friend from the 1970’s from our first neighborhood as adults with our youngins; how wonderful and of course my cousins, so many to count from firsts, seconds and even one removed…!
Not to mention all the new friends, ones that are becoming family too!
Facebook has brought us to this point in our lives that it gives so many of us the joy of catching up… or finding out without fear those answers to questions that might be a bit difficult face to face… uh oh!
NOSY ME!
Yep, I have been shut down on there too and unfriended when people do not see the expression on your face when asking or saying something…
Seeing people up close and personal can never take the place of this techno marvel but we all know that and although fear has not been my friend I must learn restraint, someday!

On that note of whatever floats your proverbial boat allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS Just thought I would let you all know, it was 92 degrees for our high today and so after one P.M. the pool was back up into the mid-eighties and so I was back in the pool again doing all my exercises!

My point is that I was walking today all over the place with my new high efficiency walker transformer. And no I did not need to transform it into a transporter, but it did get a workout with its seat quite a bit!

At eleven A.M. we arrived over at the rehab and not only socialized with the other partakers of the health and fitness equipment there, but I did my circuit of four pieces of equipment with upping my reps to twice as many as the originals, now able to do four sets of fifteen reps for each of them and nearly tripling my time on the stationary bike!

We had some items to pick up at the grocery and so when our group changed their minds about eating out at one location we decided to eat a wee bit healthier and closer to our next destination Publix and right in their parking lot is a Duncan Donuts, and nope not there but at the Subway attached to that building there, gotcha!

I had my salad with everything but only pepper and oil and vinegar for dressing and on top of that two small scoops of their excellent seafood salad with ice water to top it off!

Hubby had their meatball sub, a foot long which he ate half of and the rest as was my salad is in the fridge. I got the munchies and ate the rest of my salad this afternoon, oops!

Any-who, they have in their parking lot only two handicapped spots and they were both taken but the third one next to them, not a handicap spot was free and so we parked there. I was walking with my walker anyway.

What blew me away and does way too often was what happened only  moments before I was to exit out car… A young petite woman with a Subway bag in her hand ran out of the entrance of the Subway building into the first car parked in the handicap spot!
I was incensed and nearly yelled at her, but they pulled out way too fast and...

Hubby didn’t even see it since he was getting my walker out from the back of our car.

He shook his head when I told him what had just transpired, but it was too late to do anything and I of course agreed, as I have learned to do these last several years that I have been considered, “handicapped” space worthy.

But I did say something when we were inside and the two women behind the counter agreed and said we should report them, but alas it was futile since no license plate number was to be had. It of course it is always nice to hear that others get it why it is wrong to do what they had and illegal in this state and many others if they are caught!

Any-way, we ate most of our lunches with our iced water and then drove over to the Publix to pick up some items that we needed and this was the first time in years that I did not use my scooter in there, and many were very encouraging and telling me how great that was, but even so by then I was truly pooped when we finally got into the car to go home!

Tonight was half price pizza night too and Hubby went up to our pizza place that offers this monthly break and we buy two and freeze one and eat quite a bit of the other.

All in all it was a lovely day.
I bought kale while at the grocery and washed it and ripped it in bite size pieces and washed it in our salad spinner with lemon juice and cold water and spun it until nearly dry… then even patted it more dry and placed it on a cookie sheet, sprinkling it with olive oil and sea salt and baked it in a pre-heated oven of 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, till the edges brown, not burn, let cool, then enjoy! It is a healthy snack!

On that note allow me to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

I had been sitting on hold for quite some time...

You guess?
I bet you can.
Give the crowd a bubble gum cigar in pink!
Tis the season and a bit healthier than a real one, not by too much though… pink dye, using red dye #2 methinks and sugar and all…

Anger gets you... well, we all know can cause…

...Exhaustion and in my case for some reason unbeknownst to me makes me very sweaty.

Yep, if you guessed who could drive me to nearby insanity, a shorter trip daily, with my pals at Florida Blue at the helm of that ship, then you win that pink bubble gum cigar!

The issue again and this time is that obscure amount of $340.43 with the suggestion that they have not received the bill had come days ago but they told me to ignore it months ago, but in an email though this time, tonight,

“As of October 4, 2014, we have not received your current premium payment for case XXXXXX
Please log in to https://floridablue.com to schedule an online payment.

If you have any questions, please call us toll-free at 1-877-352-2583, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. If you have a hearing or speech impairment, please call us at TTY 1-800-955-8771.”

Meanwhile they received my online actual payment on 10-3-14 as I have sent every month through my banking online that most all of us use these days and for… (paid through online banking at the end of each and every month and you do have a thirty day grace period anyway, so they all say! But they get theirs within days after we receive our paychecks in social security and pension as do all other payees.)

When you call and speak to people there they say that they do have nine months of payments of mine though!

Which is correct, since this particular account’s premiums started in February, if any of your children or grandchildren care to count with me…February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, and lastly October! I see nine; how about you?

All payments accounted for therefore! Redundancy and pun intended.

We’re good; now if only they were too!

While I tried with my best by being a little bit too loud in my explanations as possible to tell them again, and again, and again that I have proof that they were paid entirely, they say that above and hung up!

But I was not done yet and hadn’t realized they had… OOPS!

They are striving to put me into a mental ward!

And if they don’t stop who knows they might have to pay for that too, since my deductibles have all been pretty much met! LOL!

On that note of even I can turn the corner to see the humor in this aggravating frustrating ignorance of dealing with shoddy accounting companies, allow me then to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Florida Blue and much, much more!

This morning I contacted them about my enormous bill that I had received from the MRI people and sadly and disheartening it was correct, I do owe that amount of $1066.37!

It appears even though I had had surgery and been hospitalized prior to the MRIs the hospital and the surgery center did not submit their bills until after them!

Now does that sound right to you?
I had paid their co-pays, but apparently not enough to make a dent in my $2500 deductible and so now it is down with other co-pays to a mere $139 or there about.

So I had my deductible plus my 90%/10% split and mine is the 10% and thus my total. I called the billing department to set up a monthly payment plan and I already paid my first increment of the six month plan we devised of $177.73, only five more to go! This way I won't have to go into my meager emergency fund.

Interestingly that I have had most all major tests for the year already and that also that three of my specialists have all scheduled me for return office visits in February, March and April, when I will have to meet my deductibles all over again, hmm?
And it has been discussed about more blood work and MRI etc. then!

Previously to this year I had been only having MRI's of my brain yearly, looking for lesions for MS, not all those others that were excessive, but Dr. Khalidi insisted he was looking for progression of the MS. And the only things that changed were a few more lesions in my brain, but none down my spinal cord, only slight progression of my spondylosis and some increase of stenosis.

I always wonder why doctors like him can never relate to the out of pocket expenses that we as patients may have to incur. Fortunately, it appears my other new chosen docs do have some compassion in that arena.

The Assistance Fund site has seemed to have crashed online, plus their toll free number has been busy all day long or offline too? Any-who, I spoke with Shared Solutions, also involved with Copaxone for support, and they have found another source for the same thing and it will be effective immediately!

Moving on…

Today since all was done with my calls by 10:15 A.M. it was a non-issue to get over to the independent exercises, at the rehab by eleven A.M.

The whole gang was there, Barbara and Chuck and Eileen, including most all of the physical therapists. Hubby went over to Walgreen’s to get his flu shot while I did my exercise routine.
Barbara has been very helpful with getting me to use the equipment that I was not familiar with properly and I truly appreciated that.
The PTs are there too that are extremely helpful as well, my last one of Paula seems to be there whenever I have a question, which is why this setting is better than most all other fitness clubs.

After Hubby treated me to lunch at Bob Evans and I had a BIG meal of steak, baked sweet potato and salad and he had a similar meal but with mashed potatoes and soup. It even came with dessert, ice cream Sundays, but small ones, so they said, but to me it was sort of too big, but I am sure you guessed it, I ate it anyway!

Breakfast had been Carnation Instant Breakfast without sugar, mine I put a banana in and Hubby has his straight up with just milk that we both do too of course.

So dinner was homemade tomato basil soup and Happy Cow original Swiss cheese with crackers, just right!
We seem to always have soup for dinner when lunch is large.

After lunch we went over to Jo-Ann’s Crafts and Fabrics and bought Gorilla glue, which seems to be the most appropriate for my newest project. I begged Hubby to go into Publix, our grocery to pick up a large bottle of acetone, in other words nail polish remover too, just in case, I glue my fingers together or something… ya know?
Being safer not sorrier…right?

On that note of care being taken, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you to all kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
