BEIGE, glorious BEIGE!

Never has a natural been so very sage and cage-y! Oh glorious beige, my new best phrase. And oh how I love that you traipse so lithely as you jaunt through the world with nary an observer with being almost incognito that's practically unnoticed as so well as a being a neutral that goes with nearly everything!  ( 5-7 minutes of shampooing twice, and 5-7 minutes of using the conditioner once, a subtle calming of the banana yellow, but needing more...)

Oh my you shy and understated but perfectly fine  glorious beige without yelling too loud that you exist. You co-exist well with all you frame and me by name and that is mostly, since you are now the indiscriminate host to my favorite toast of being host on any coast, huh?

(Back for more after another client v. pro consultation, only five minutes is all it took of two ounces of each! To rock my world back on track! The pro-line is whom settled the actual result, and it was a woman by the name of Jonice there at: 1-800-221-4900. As you can see  the products are all Clairol too! It was just getting the right info and right person to disseminate it all that was the issue in the end...WOW what a ringer I went through.)

The joy of being much more tame and claiming no fame, yep as classy as a lassie can remain inane, preventing becoming too vain... I know it's insane but being lame is my current refrain without any shame!
Actually the lighting is not showing the color correctly, believe me when I say it has become GLORIOUS BEIGE! And as we all know beige has always been the rage!

On that note of now knowing I may finally leave my domain, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Hair of the dog!

Normally what one might do to fix a situation is do what so many feel is counterintuitive. When one has a hangover from drinking too much the night before that next morning they are given an alcoholic beverage to cure the hangover and that is not acceptable by all. This is usually done the morning after binge drinking... not that I would know anything about that.

Color on hair, looks innocent enough and like it is doing what it should be doing, but HA!

Above is the test inch squared of hair that I divided in several sections; Hubby snipped it off the back of my head, hopefully not noticeable.
And so my analogy is true to form with that above concept and by all means should have worked... since CLAIROL told me to do it!
Yes, their reasoning was that I did not leave it on long enough at only forty-five minutes and thus I got ORANGE hair for my troubles. Their solution was to purchase the product again, which you can see that I did, actually Hubby did, and this time leave it on for ninety plus minutes and or as long as two hours! (I did that!)

Most, by now, must be thinking what are they/me crazy for listening to them, besides wouldn't your hair fall out?
Yes and no, since with all the extra wasted time that I got for my additional troubles was this YELLOW HAIR!

So I called these people back who has their company of Clairol as their employer that has been around for like a gazillion years or there about and I felt that talking to them once again that I would ask if they could solve this worsening problem? Oh wait, YELLOW IS NOT AS BRIGHT AS ORANGE; what?????
Their polite answer to me on this my second call was I suppose now you will have to leave it alone for the next FOUR WEEKS before you put anymore chemicals on it? WHAT!!!!?????? I felt like buzzing their very WRONG ANSWER! BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ that does feel a bit better...
Instead, I said no that is not the correct answer; I cannot go out looking like this, and blah, blah, blah, blah.... I am currently in physical therapy and I have MS, blah, blah, blah and this is VERY STRESSFUL, blah, blah, blah etc.!
Yes, I do play the illness card whenever it will fit the bill, and anyway what I had said was absolutely true!
So Delano, I swear that is his name, like honored President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, had me hold while he checked with his superiors, the gods of color and clarity I suspect, since he knew neither, in my opinion.
And when he came back on the phone he then gave me a formula that I should use once I acquired the miraculous cure to this mess and this is what he told me, you need 06 Medium Cool Blond in Natural Instincts and once you have it in your possession you should use it this way: in a bowl add, 1 ounce of color, 1 ounce of developer and 1 ounce of shampoo and mix them all together then apply on damp hair and check every five minutes by rinsing a section to see if the color is right, and the longest that I should do this is up to 20 minutes, but the desired color may be achieved in as short as ten minutes.
And now that sounded like a decent plan! Who knew...

...Except... after calling all three CVS stores in county and three Walgreen's and two Walmarts, one Target, no one had it!
I called Clairol back in the midst of my search for any other possibilities and they said that 05 of the Natural Instincts would also be acceptable, and you know what?
That too was nowhere to be found!
Talk about WILD GOOSE CHASES!

I was getting very annoyed, oh let's face it, angry!
But I remembered what that nice gal at Target had said, about trying Sally's or Cosomof. I called Sally's first and it was just as well.
They own Cosomof and they're just for professionals in the business and would not have been able to help me, but Sally's was.
More exact Sara the woman who worked there.
She suggested and Hubby should go there to pick up a fine compromise; Shimmer lights shampoo and its separate conditioner.
That when used for a certain amount of minutes, starting with anywhere from 5-7 minutes due to my very banana yellow locks... it should make it calm down to the ash blond that all this was for and all that I was after.
It is true this is a daily procedure, but I am a wash my hair daily type of gal anyway, and it is a shampoo and conditioner!
The best part is when all is said and done, in around four weeks time I will be able to use another tamer color to become more permanent!
I had the nerve to call back Clairol for the fourth time today and let them know that they should know what they are talking about and that I had called a professional company that were able to give me a solution that I could live with...

Clairol has a wonderful reputation in so many ways, but not everyone knows everything, and these people knew very little and constantly put me on hold to find out, which is commendable, but when you are a trouble shooting hair color hotline as I thought they were it left me with an enormous wonderment of what were they thinking?  PS their offices are in Jacksonville Florida, I thought originally they were in NYC, but as that smart Sara said with so many companies splitting up parcels these days who knows who owns what anymore, really? All in all I am very disappointed and when I called back and told them how I felt they offered a refund, which I accepted with my two purchases of their product at nearly twenty-five bucks not to mention the gas for Hubby going here and there... and aggravation and all... But I did tell her that is very nice that they are doing that, but they should also try to fix their problem and find out better ways to help people...that would work!

By the way, they were the ones who told me which stores carried their Natural Instincts product to call and that is why I do believe they should know better than they seemed to... that's all.

I haven't tried the Shimmer lights yet too tired physically and emotionally exhausted... Hubby did all the running and I did all the calling.... although, he did help on some calls, but not so much, not his topic of expertise, ya know?

*Clairol is an old and respected company, being, if for no other reason than for their longevity, and my Mom who used their hair color products most of her life would have been shocked to have heard of all this baloney that I went through with them today!
Perhaps they should have people better trained with more knowledgeable in their field as colorists.

This whole thing also reminded me of a beautiful woman who worked as a demo salesperson for me in one of the five Sam's clubs that I trained people for, back in the early 1990's, she had been a Clairol box head-shot model and she maintained her beauty and sweetness throughout her life, she was eighty-eight when I hired her and an ex-New Yorker and as nice as they come and sold our products with vim and vigor, one of my best sales people ever, sadly I forgot her name, shame on me... oh wait, VIRGINIA, yep that was her name!

Any-who, on that little more pleasant note, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Karma!

I need professional help... sure you have all been saying that for years, hmm?
Okay, sometimes I am a wee bit too impatient and it does get me into all sorts of trouble, but this....?

It has been a long time for this gal to have done something this stupid!
Well, maybe not that long...
But it is at least thirty or more years since I had a hair color that was not in Vogue unless your idea of being, 'with it' is avant garde. Let's see when I was sixteen I did have blue hair by mistake of trying hard to prevent brassiness with silver drops making it too blue!
Then at around thirty something I had dark avocado green by another coloring fluke but this time (At this rate my next experience should be in another forty years... I'm good; pretty sure I won't be around for that one!)

Fast forward thirty years later... I HAVE ORANGE! And in my case ORANGE IS NOT THE NEW BLACK!!!!!! It's just 'orange' that rhymes with nothing! Oh alright, the NEW BROWN, but not for long, I hope!
Don't laugh, oh alright go on ahead... but it's my head!
In an effort to speed up the coloring process of making me once again a blond I tried the quicky method..., now get your minds out of the gutter and back here where I need them, HELP!
I used a product that has the stamp of approval from many women for many years' worth... a Clairol one... but this one type of theirs I had never ever tried before....
And all it promised was to take me
from dark to light; pretty darn impressive, hmm?
But I ask any of you, does my hair color above appear to resemble any of those colors below it? NO! I hear you! Not really, but I bet you said no too? SURE YOU DID! For you are NOT color blind although at this moment I wish that I was, I know I just got my eyesight back and all...not so funny when I put it like that!

Any-who, what would you do in this case?
I can't hear you and so I will tell you what I did...
It being Sunday and all I first foolishly called the number on the box, 1-800-Clairol, logical right?
They are not opened on SUNDAY!
Next I called the places who sell hair color that are open today, but sadly they amounted to grocery stores and drugstores with no professional hair colorists there, and not allowed to recommend a fix.
Although, a couple suggested contacting two pro shops, Sally's and Cosmof also for people in the business and of course they too were closed....
Now some of you who are shaking your heads profusely thinking why the heck I didn't go to a professional salon to have this done?
Well, I have a problem with their sinks to wash my hair, due to cervical stenosis I cannot have my head tilted back like that it could hurt me severely or cause a stroke since I had a TIA.
I even go into my haircut appointments with a clean wet shampooed head...
So now I am on hold.
Until tomorrow, I hope only...
I will be postponing my PT that was scheduled for tomorrow.
We have the phone company coming between 8-5 tomorrow anyway since we have been experiencing static on our house line.

Oh I won't be answering the door if they come, Hubby will and if he has to make a color run for a cure (wish everything can be cured so easily, put this into perspective, although, when I look in the mirror I don't know whether to laugh or cry, really!)... to my Carrot Top, and so sorry Carrot Top, on you it looks right... but not me, believe me!

On that note of why me?
This is so silly and ridiculous at the same time... but it does serve me right... and oh by the way if you try to stop by to get a closer look I am not answering the door at all!

Allow me to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, you hear!

Ta Da!

The grander, well maybe mostly large, sorta pretty big for us anyway, very much there, that's it.... GRAND FINALE of this yes, why not, particular project!

The object of this minute display to some is it is not only a barrier for me against the too much joyous sunshine that is not only good for us, but harmful too!
And between the rain and the now shade it can, when needed, keep the temperature of the pool from not becoming too hot!
And to all of you who do not know what the actual height is of each of those corners, well the two on the right side attached to the 2X4s, ten feet long, are up eight feet high, two feet of the ten foot boards are underground and the boards are also screwed into the fence's 4X4s, which are underground three feet deep. The cleats on the 2X4s are to lower that side in the advent of severe wind or weather at a moments notice.
The hook eyes on the other two sides are through thick boards as well, the one on the overhang side of our lanai is also part of our roof system, although they are at just seven foot four inches high on that side allowing for rain to run off.
The entire concept from start to finish cost less than $50 and the idea was from so many of the magazines I read online of sailcloth for outdoor use for shade.
We are fortunate to have so many items in the home, as the white exterior paint, which is used a lot and hook-eyes so those items did not have to be purchased and Hubby made the cleats from scrap wood!

Moving on...

This afternoon we took a break, Hubby more than me needing one, I only did laundry a couple of loads, but he fought getting the lawn mowed before the threat of afternoon showers made good on their promise?

So we just so happen to have the movie Captain Phillips in the house and that is what we did, after my afternoon nap we watched that. "Captain Phillips is a 2013 American drama thriller film directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi. The film is inspired by the true story of the 2009 Maersk Alabama hijacking, an incident during which merchant mariner Captain Richard Phillips was taken hostage by pirates in the Indian Ocean led by Abduwali Muse." Thanks to:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Phillips_%28film%29
It was quite suspenseful and I do think we both enjoyed this two hour and fourteen minute flick that went by faster than you might think.
Sign me on for anything staring Tom Hanks anyway.
In conclusion if you haven't seen it yet, try to.

On that note of whatever floats your boat, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Logical reasons, excuses, delays and the whys?

Many wonder why any delays happen with projects, from building homes to playing outdoor sports, to even our mysterious, albeit important to us if not you too and quite simple to share with all of you, but darn Mother Nature is held responsible too often, oh why her, nah WEATHER, plain and simple, has interfered with our grande finale!

We have been experiencing major rain delays all day long, but the thing here in Florida is when we are not having treacherous hurricanes our thunderstorms produce thousands of lightening hits in moments within the storming area, news/weather machines counted nearly 2,500 just a few moments before I started writing tonight! And so it's not the noisy thunder, which is plentiful too, but that deadly lightening, and since we are the lightening capital of the world, we have learned to heed its arrival and take cover indoors! Rain in itself is quite refreshing, but when it is enhanced by thunderous roars, howling to inform you of a lightening strike about to hit, it makes you stop and listen and act all at the same time if you know what's good for you! GET INSIDE!   (this pic was to try and show you the rain coming down bubble like into our pool and split screen due to the same effect also into the canal.)

So sadly our newest project is on hold again, and once again I have forgotten to pick up the few supplies I need to create the next mirror effect for one of the two leftover seven inch mirrors, a great rainy day project...DUH!

Today I had a forty-five minute PT with Paula and we worked the entire time on my BPPV, vertigo, and as she explained that we have three levels in our inner ear and we worked on the first today, but I was also given homework to follow-up with once daily with the one exercise of lying down from side to side with keeping a pinpointed area on the wall and staying with my eyes aligned with that while I complete the exercise, three times in each direction, once daily. From there we went over to Office Depot for printer ink and paper then for lunch at Paneras and then Hubby dropped me at home since I was pooped and he took the list that we had compiled to our Pulix grocery to pick up those items.

Just the pool and shed here also getting bombarded by rain as well.

That is our pond and hopefully the rain smashing into the water there is visible? PS notice all that vegetation around the fish pond, no worries for all those birdies! One of Hubby's next projects outside is more trimming back of other overgrown areas, thus is the issue in rainy season in Florida, and even needing to mow lawns in less than a week's time too! So plush, almost like Seattle, nah FLORIDA in rainy season.

That tree above the shed is a wild one on our neighbors empty lot, rather pretty, but it is responsible for the dark sappy streaks on the roof there.
I had asked Hubby to check our rain-gauge which we have had for years and in spite of this rain system hovering over us today, Hubby says we have only had about an inch and half so far. Methinks it is going on its second filling perhaps? We had been rain free for days, so I guess we were due, hmm?

On that note of of there are more mysteries in one's day that cannot become explained sometimes, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask all of you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

PS I have only missed three days of going into the pool these last few weeks! Two were rain/storm related and one was due to a too early PT.

What is it?

I know that many might be saddened by our removal of our beautiful Bougainvillea vine that for years and years adorned our lanai area of our patio, but the reasons for removing it was vast. It was a lovely hiding place for the birds; Hubby feeds daily and a safe haven for them to hide from any predators, especially the hawk that frequents our yard as well as the feral cats. Although, those reasons are quite legitimate for keeping the beauteous planting ( we have many other trees and bushes for them to find for cover too) it was also a home to other not so desirable habitants, such as wasps and hornets nests, besides the lovely birds nests, but horrendously a home too for literal rats nests! And so as lovely a plant as it had been we had decided to have Hubby perform major surgery on it cutting it back to stubble. And that does not mean it will never blossom again it only means that it will be contained. Plus this is only the Mother plant of the one that I had moved years ago, at least a decade or more that too had become another healthy monstrous bush down by the water, and in reality we had thought this one had been removed then, but interestingly came back much to our many years of delight.
As you can see the fencing that Hubby has provided for my privacy is well established on just two sides, but there is another larger/higher white fence on the third. It is there due to one side the right having a chain-link one with an established Alamanda vine but still allowing viewing into our yard in my opinion and of course there was no need for one on the water side to the saltwater canal It is replacing my other mistake of the Bamboo bush I thought would be a great privacy plant, and it was, but was a voracious grower and soon took over too much too!.
Our lanai is a bit messy due to the construction of this his newest project that you have not figured out yet, but might with all the additional clues...
Hubby using his floating level here....
 An eye there now.
 What is that?
 Or that?

 Oh my another eye!
Hints are getting more abundant, hmm?

Oh well, due to a nasty rain storm the finale of this project will have to wait until tomorrow!
But I bet some have figured it out, no?
Then stay tuned...

On that note of mystery, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and kindly count all your blessings and share your overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS due to some feeling that I am living in the past...so I have chosen to discontinue, throwback Thursday PICS! Sadly, I have decided they were perhaps right?

Our tenth anniversary remembered! Now eleventh!

Tuesday/Wednesday, August 13, 2013/2014

Anniversary number 9 of a life changing experience...now anniversary number 10, and how quickly they all pass...

Anniversary is annual observation or ritual of a past event, happy or sad.
Today was the ninth anniversary of the devastating event of Hurricane Charley Friday the thirteenth 2004, our ninth.
Below is the experience of that day remembered on the fifth anniversary in 2009.

Friday August 13. 2004
Today is an infamous anniversary; the fifth one of Hurricane Charley, and yes it was a Friday the 13th.
I was trying hard to write for you a time line of what actually occurred here that day, but I must have put quite a bit of it out of my mind since it did create most of us to go into mild shock due to what we experienced that particular day.
Not at all that different from post traumatic stress syndrome I suspect.

What I do remember is watching closely the news and weather reports out of Fort Myers where all of our local information comes from; my Hubby was at work as a deputy, a fairly normal day. We had made somewhat preliminary strapping’s down of things that could fly away, little did we know how stupid that would be, but it was supposed to not come here!

We were told initially that this milder storm not that much over hurricane strength was heading towards Tampa, about one hundred miles north of us, and I suppose this was on the news and weather at noon. I did worry anyway since our eldest son works in Tampa and lives not far from there, to the north about 20 miles.
The storm at this point I do believe was staying the course.
Coming from the Caribbean south of Cuba and was expected to veer towards the Gulf of Mexico where it might pick up speed, and develop into a stronger hurricane in the warmer waters there.

I think it might have been around 2 or 3 O’clock in the afternoon that things began changing for the worse for us. The weather reporters noticed that the storm was shifting direction, and it was heading towards Captiva and Pine Islands, and Fort Myers Beach, which are due west of Fort Myers, but south of us by about forty plus miles. Still in my mind too close for comfort that was enough for me to start to think ahead, and I began listening intensively to the safety procedures that were coming over the TV to get into a space without windows if you had no room that met that criteria get into your hallway and close all the doors, contain pets so they won’t scare and take off. And so I started making our small hallway into a sanctuary for me and the pets. I moved our 25 year old Cockatiel, oddly enough also named Charlie, but a different spelling in his cage in the back of the space, then I took a kitchen chair and got out the cat crate for our seven years old long haired orange Tabby Casey, the hardest part was putting him in it, and then listening to him complain about it, our Skipper was only a five month old puppy at the time and so he was at my mercy and I was able to corral him and attach his lead so I could maintain him in our safety room.
Hubby was a whole other worry, but by now we had been in phone communication and he was busy making sure the county was hunkered down for the possible arrival of the storm by securing the Marine Patrol boats and equipment as well as notifying the public in what to do, and chasing them from harms way.
By the time the storm decided to take a sharp turn towards us, via the harbor, which we are 5 minutes from by boat, I had shut our main power source off and had the battery TV hunkered down with us in our control room, the hallway. I kept hearing from our wonderful son north of Tampa; he was also monitoring the storm and wanted to know how we were doing.
You see we were not that new to hurricanes we had all helped in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, a Category 5, back on August the 17.1992, and we were well aware of the devastation a hurricane could commit on a community, we had seen it first hand as well as both of our sons seeing it too.
But this was going to be different since we only went to assist after Andrew, and we actually lived over five and half hours away at that time in Ormond Beach. This time we lived here and it was coming right at us!
And we would be getting an up close and personal first hand knowledge of the horrible devastation it was beginning to seem, but little did we know for sure that this now category 4 hurricane was going for a direct hit on us, we were still hopeful it would miss us, or in denial.

I put up the puppy gate at the opening of the hallway, which allowed me not to have to hold Skipper on his lead the whole time, and it was just in time since something or someone was at the front door…I thought it might be the storm, but I looked out our very large picture window, and it was my hubby coming in! He had to grab tight the door the wind was trying to take it!
He had parked the old army truck they were using to move around the marine boats on our side pad from the driveway, the garage had been secured since the news people told that it should be, and our personal car was in there anyway.

And he did arrive just in time, because within seconds we heard a very loud noise that scared us both I had to grab Hubby for him not to go and check it out; it was instinctive, but I feared for his life.
The wind was rip roaring all around us, and crashes could be heard too, but I was too scared to look and I focused on keeping the animals put. Hubby noticed the guestroom door making vibrations like in the Poltergeist Movie, and he took Skipper's lead and tied it from that doorknob on the guestroom to the bathroom one. At around five thirty, yes it was already that time, everything got deathly quiet. And hubby wanted to go look, but I begged him not to, it must be the eye of the hurricane, we both agreed, and he did take my concerns to heart and waited; all this time we were getting information from the local news, by seven P.M. they were saying we should be in the clear.

Nearly seven P.M. on the dot I stopped hearing most noises, and Hubby and I both agreed that we could venture from the hallway.
What we were about to see was going to change our world in ways that we could not ever believe.

The first thing was since we had drapes on the big picture window I thought that loud noise was something coming through it but thankfully it was not, since our thirty foot oak tree that stood majestically on our front lawn was lying on the ground blocking our way from getting out our front door.
Apparently, the metal stucco encased columns that made up our Spanish style veneer prevented the tree from crashing through that nine foot window!
But did block our exit from that entry way.
The other crash I inspected or maybe hubby was the guestroom; the side window had been smashed to smithereens and glass was all over the bed and the carpet, so I closed the door again so the animals could not go in. The hardest part was to go outside, our screen porch had rain coming in where it met the dinette ceiling, there was water coming from everywhere. Our fairly new wooden floors and carpeting were saturated! But searching around the rest of the house we only had the one broken window, it was a good thing we had installed new windows the year before, but why did that one break? Hubby went outside, and found out the answers to most of our concerns, our octagon Gazebo was gone, our two sheds too, and our next-door neighbors roof was in our backyard, and had hit the guestroom window and was only stopped by knocking our air-conditioner off its pedestal. It was lucky that our neighbors were not home. Our roof was still there but ripped to shreds in many places thus causing the rain indoors.
People from all over the neighborhood started to venture out, and hubby was helped by our other next-door neighbors on the other side tarp our roof. I questioned if I could use the toilet and did not get an answer so I did, and that was a mistake since that giant oak tree pulled the sewer pipe from the ground and all was shooting out into the air! Yuck is an understatement but again neighbors helped to pushed it down and hubby reconnected it. The power was off, our boat on the lift could not be seen or gotten too with all the debris, and it was everywhere, we had, had a sixteen foot arbor down to the water that was no where to be found it did have vegetation on it too. Our backyard oak also keeled over onto the fish pond and surprisingly the fish were fine, as well as the grapefruit tree, but lying on the ground, and the lemon and orange trees were both sheared. I could go on and on as you can see I have remembered so much of it all after all.
We still were alive, and when all was said and done we had, had over 80K dollars worth of damage on our tiny little home!
Thankfully, we have been rebuilt since December of that year, 2004, our insurance took care of our doing the work ourselves, fortunately I was well enough then to help a little, but our son, his girlfriend, my cousins, and another friend from the Arthritis Foundation are hugely responsible for being there when we needed them! We were one of the lucky ones; some still have not rebuilt.

On this long dissertation I will bid you all a good night, and I hope, I really hope that I have given you somewhat of a glimpse into what did transpire on that horrid day here in Charlotte County and in the surrounding communities.

That’s why when I say be safe, I mean it and when I say count those blessing I mean that too! And I do count them all, all of them our blessings that is!

Here’s additional important information from that day, our home’s exterior destruction:

30 foot Oak tree fell down across our front door and driveway just missing Hubby’s patrol car, but the truck was under it!

The picture above is that same oak tree and the sewer pipe that I had no idea was out of the ground, yuck!
And the one below it is showing our side of our home where the guest room window was broken and a portion of our roof damaged over that room, but many points of shearing of the roof was evident from the fact that it rained inside.

The above picture is showing where our sixteen foot arbor was with vegetation over it, and the platform you are seeing was where our Gazebo was, 10X10 octagon latticed shaped with planters in between each opening and a paddle fan in the center. We also had two metal sheds, all gone… our boat was bought new in 2003 and had $4500 dollars worth of damage while on the lift, but all the rubble was hiding it, but thankfully it too was insured and as well as the house that had 80K worth. It took until October to get to start getting our money but we were back in our home by December of that year 2004, since we did most of the work ourselves.

At the time I belonged to a writing group called the Peace River Center for Writers and we eventually all compiled many writings dealing with our experiences of those two summers of multiple historic storms, in fact the book to be birthed from our experiences is called, “ Summer of the Storms”, and I have copied my contributory page from the compilation, which can still be purchased I believe through the center or the historical society, here’s my feelings after all was said and done..

"Formula for a Return to Normalcy
By me, on page #58 in the book entitled, ‘Summer of the Storms’, published by the Peace River Center for Writers copyrighted 2005 all rights reserved
We are in flux, but soon we’ll be able to return to what we remember as home.
Hurricanes have caused all to be in an uncontrollable situation. We must take back that control!
As a state we must reconnoiter all options to regain our strength as a whole entity, train ourselves to be valiant, reclaim what we lost and make it better.
We can network our knowledge and resources.
We can show compassion for one another in this horrid commonality of misfortune.
The old adage is true, misery does love company.
Understanding, first hand, what others have been through gives us something we all can relate to.
A TV show psychologist stated that to cope with such traumas, we must turn emotion into motion. Simply said; do something! Energy should be well spent in a positive productive way. This way we disallow negative thinking to take over.
And yes, we all have plenty to do to accomplish our tangible tasking.
From simple, annoying, repetitive calling of insurance agents and contractors to physically getting in there and doing the work to repair or replace.
Life has never been simple, but with a recipe to regain whatever we consider our normalcy, this unreality too will become familiar, bringing us again to what our lives once were."

I believe all horrendous experience needs to have similar resolves for our sanity to attack these problems with true ability by putting all of it into perspective. We as human beings on this planet have more strength than we sometimes realize, but never ever forget that we do have it!

All I can say is some things in life just stick with you forever the good stuff as well as the bad and this was just another blip in the bigger picture of things that we will never ever forget...

*"PS I see that the excerpt of my page 58 from the Summer of the Storms book did not photograph well, and so I guess you will just have to find it and buy it! LOL!" (This was written last year when I did photograph the book page, but after that I just wrote it in word and copied and pasted it here this year for you to be able to read!)
