Yep, that’s just about what you could say we did today.
We stocked up on stuff that will last probably until the fall or at least till we run out, this summer maybe?
We went over to the warehouse club store and got those non-perishable items that last for a decade or so without causing foul odors or bacterial stomach disorders or anything negative and are very necessary the list included: toilet paper, facial tissue and paper towels plus an assortment of other items that are cost effective and could be stored. The social security check came this morning and once I paid the last of the bills in the bill drawer… off we went!
Even on our roomy compound grounds displacement and appropriately locating these items to their designated waiting areas is not as easy as one might think. Once the bathrooms depositories were filled as well as under the sink in the kitchen and the linen closet floor and top shelf, the garage closet and shelves were specified and utilized for the remainder.
Other items, that were of the perishable variety were divided accordingly put into marked freezer bags and frozen, since most were of the aquatic food species, although one clucker was also included in the catch, assorted cheese foods, forty pounds of chlorine for the swimming pool (best deal), and a couple containers of coffee, a beautiful fresh pineapple and lastly three pounds of tomatoes for $5.98, about the same as the grocery, but we do go through a lot and hopefully that will be the last purchase since our tomatoes are almost ready, not! But they are getting there.
The pineapple I must admit was a slight splurge, only in the context of not absolutely necessary since it is something we haven’t bought in years, but at $1.98 it really wasn’t too dear at all, and my plans are to try and grow the top and make some more! It’s supposed to be easy, we shall see.
Prior to leaving we did manage to get some spring cleaning done, our comforter, dust ruffle etc were all washed, even the pillows that hold our decorative pillow shams. Didn’t realize they could be but once stripped of the two cases encompassing each one their tags said they were machine washable and dryable, how about that? And so we did.
The house is getting a little more spring like looking.
And in the dinette, the seat cushion pillows were switched yesterday from the darker print Wedgwood blue ones with the matching tablecloth on that table to the paler blue and white striped pillows with the matching placemats, and a bowl of fruit was placed on the table too. All things I had but make a lighter springier look to the room.
Our home is never dark anyway, as much as I kid about having a family compound in reality our home is quite small square footage wise, so light and bright is the best way to decorate or otherwise dark, so-called warmer darker colors would create gloom and doom in my opinion in our home and who wants that? Bright and cheerful is how I see our place, and to be honest it makes it more joyful to stay home, especially since at times due to my ills I have no choice. But going out is a nice respite to my occasional boredom.
On that note I will bid you all a good night and to all count those blessings and we will too!
Speaking My Mind is about: Tobi, who is a middle aged, no, oh all right a slightly over the hill woman with all the imperfections that go with that, and this concerns her daily life's perceptions and experiences.

Come and get um before they are all gone!
H 1 N 1 Flu virus shots, but of course!
Whatever did you think I meant? Free Money, I bet.
Wouldn’t that be some great April Fools joke, eh? Not so funny you say, yeah you are too right this time folks! Only the rich get that surplus.
Actually, there is a surplus of shots not money, but according to the recent news, just tonight there has been a reinfection of the virus locally, and so you better get yourself protected as soon as possible.
Well, Hubby and I are still protected, I think?
We got both the seasonal flu shot and the H1N1shot last November, but no one told us when the expiration date was, does anyone know how long they are good for?
What concerns me is the fact that most of these viruses have the power to change into some type of super virus that is not easily killed by whatever arsenal of shots or medications that would be available to all who fit the high risk profile/criteria. Whew, I am sure glad that’s me! What?
It would be nice not to be in that group that’s one clique I rather not be a member of.
Have you had your fill of April Fools Day jokes yet? No more here, fresh out, sorry!
Our local NBC station is questioning what people think of the new IPAD coming out this Saturday, you also have the power to tell me too, so do if you wish to at the end of this Blog in the comments section. Who knows we could all learn something!
Today also was the last day to get those census forms in the mail or they will be coming to your house to find out what happened.
I do know that the race question was considered insensitive and difficult to answer in this day and age with so many multi-cultural and multi-race people here in our melting pot called America, well I agree that question has to be changed.
Too bad that the form didn’t have a space to give our opinions or suggestions on that topic and others, but I do believe that they are made simplistic so the computer can read them more easily. If humans were doing them who knows what would happen ...sensitivity could be what might happen folks, but that would be too much to expect!
More jobs would happen too, not just for those follow-up enumerators of yore, which I was back in 1990, great short term pay, by the way!
From the I gotta have one file, there’s “an app for that”, man got tired of his electronics getting stolen out of his car all the time so he put them all on the GPS application, and now he has helped the cops locate his stuff and of course the guy had stolen other peoples things too so he may have helped you too! If you got the power to apply that system do it sounds great to me.
On that positive helpful hint I will bid you all a very good night and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Off to the grocery we go, ho, ho,ho...and other more interesing topics...that we know,so...
Grocery shopping can be an adventure if you allow it to be, what, huh, eh?
You see when your life is as exciting as ours you take what you can get, LOL…
And we did do major shopping there today due to it being the end of the month when Hubby’s pension check has arrived.
Having two months that are so extreme in how many days they have with the least and the most allowed also does make you realize the cupboards were starting to look a wee bit bare; February having only twenty eight days and March with a generous thirty-one, check comes in the end of the month, and the state of Florida doesn’t care how many days in that month, got that?
Social Security comes in usually around the third of the month but makes allowances for holidays, weekends etc. So that should be here any day now.
What I usually do is pay as many bills I can with the first check whatever is leftover we go grocery shopping, get gas etc. and the rest with second also managing to put a bit away first for emergencies, and then what’s left is for joyous occasions, huh, what?
Still waiting, I have faith they will come soon or some day in our near future, I can feel it in my bones. (That’s another thing I am back to using my walker in the house, those bones and muscles are acting up again. I thought it was our rain, but now it’s dry as ever… for our dry season.)
Anywho, we do manage to find things to keep us busy and out of most trouble during the month.
Hubby still has a few projects in the works, like repairing the dock; perhaps adding on to the boardwalk in another direction, as it is now it only goes down to the dock from alongside of our swimming pool to the end of it then down about fifty feet with the diamond pattern containing the Tangelo tree in part of the remaining distance.
I personally have begun my own project; before we went into our Publix grocery store we went over to our Jo-Ann’s Fabrics and Crafts in the same shopping center and picked up the things needed for me to create my plaque for over Charlie’s gravesite.
My concept is to decoupage his picture of his image that I copied already onto paper, and then I will affix it to the oval shaped wooden plaque we found for a mere $2.97. Hubby has a Drummel type tool that he will be using to carve into the wood Charlie’s name and his dates of his life and death, his photo will be in the center and once done it will be lacquered with spar varnish, which we already had, to protect it from the elements, sound good?
I really do enjoy doing decoupage I have done it many times before, I used to do wedding invitations to send back to the happy couple as part of their gift, but since then I have done plaques for my cousins art studio, a trunk with Florida fish all over it in this room, our sunroom, the trunk was plain wood when we got it as a gift from our eldest son’s X-girlfriend when they were together that is. It’s really rather nice the top was done in a cherry wood stain the interior it is painted a beautiful Wedgwood blue, and the sides were first done in an off white crackle and then the fish were applied. Hubby cut them all out and I put them on!
Perfect for holding additional items that you may need and also does double duty as a coffee table in front of our sleep sofa in here, and we did put casters on it too, so it is perfect for us to move out of the way if need be.
That’s it for tonight, and yes, we did manage to get all that we needed at those two places and that is considered a success, right? You betcha.
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Response to the news of Charlie's demise was heartwarming...
Let me explain, I received so many sympathy emails this morning I don’t recall the last time that happened in response to anything! And I just want each and every one of you who felt the need to respond to a creature’s death that you may or may not have known, but were sensitive enough to write with such tenderness and caring, it was very thoughtful of you all, and thank you.
The rest of our day today was uneventful in the truest sense of the meaning of the word, mundane.
Tonight though, on the news I heard something that was a wee bit disturbing to me it was that people who use the paid ambulance/EMS services are not paying their bills even with Medicare, who should be doing it for them. Well, I’ll be, since Hubby and I were both taken by ambulance to the hospital last April within weeks of one another and since the bill added to our other hospital related bills was quite high, more than $1200 for the two of us for just those two ambulance rides, adding into all those other bills we have been paying it off monthly since receiving the first bill last June. At the time Hubby’s Medicare coverage was not complete, (only part A but as of this summer he will have A and B as of July, which will cost over one hundred dollars more a month, a reduction of social security income) and I have none at all! But we have been paying those ambulances bills off in spite of that all these months!
People it is zero interest on medical bills so pay them!
We are not wealthy and until the pre-existing insurance comes around for me in 2014 (I will be 64 by then and probably already on Medicare at age 62?) I am currently uninsurable, and we have been paying monthly all they say we owe, including my January eye surgery. Gone are the days of taking health for granted and not worrying about getting sicker and needing hospitalization for my MS or whatever, anyone who says that black cloud does not follow you constantly is in denial.
You see I am an in-between, not poor enough for financial aid and not old enough for Medicare.
Back to the ambulance dilemma; I really bet though that some just cannot pay at all, and the news had the not so nice way of putting it that is why the more financially insurance secure people would end up paying for those have nots with receiving higher premiums! Well, folks that is why national health insurance is not such a BAD IDEA, got it?
It divvies up the cost of the pie more evenly for all people.
Feeling it in the pocketbook might be what it takes before you holdouts to realize that.
Compassion is what is needed we all need to think of the other guy or girl’s ills as if they were your own.
Sorry about my redundancy but I feel very strongly about this situation, you see not long ago we were the haves, and now we are the have-nots…only speaking health insurance wise thankfully and only for me not Hubby but it still stings just the same! In every other way I cannot complain we are extremely fortunate.
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!

We lost another small soul in our lives...
If any of you have been wondering how our nearly thirty-one year old cockatiel has been feeling the answer is not too good for maybe two whole months, and last night he lost the aging gracefully battle with the ultimate ending, death!
I know that most feel that all creatures should keep up with life’s trials and tribulations by denying most of them, and just dance the days away…Well Charlie did that!
He never let his age get in his way in preventing him from doing whatever he loved to do.
Pooping, eating, singing with his outdoor friends when the windows were open, playing with his cage toys, he was a very well rounded and healthy old bird! And yes we were very saddened to see him go.
But we provided him with a fine send off, just the immediate family saying a few words over his gravesite throwing some dirt over his simple brown box coffin, this was all on our compound’s grounds right under the Ponderosa Lemon Tree where many of his friends had hung out, nearby the fishpond.
Charlie was there for all the other cats and dogs that came after him, and they were many that made it into our family’s lives. He chose wisely with whom he befriended and was extremely particular in those decisions, he would make a fuss and go berserk if he didn’t like you and just watch you if he did. But you gotta love the guy since he enjoyed learning whistles from my niece who passed away a couple a years ago, the eldest niece we had, the whistle was the wolf one, and he would repeat it back to us or just brazenly use it at will. He also would imitate the whippoorwill, which I don’t believe we had any down here in Florida, but that one must have been a leftover from NJ, what a memory he had.
When he was young he had been finger trained and we even have a picture somewhere of him standing on the back of our first family cat, named Puffy a grey and white, soft powder puff female, and also in that picture was our first male Yorkie, Benji, named for that famous one, and he was as bright as the movie one too.
An era has ended.
The house is a wee bit quieter today, since even while he had been so ill he did find the ability to vocalize sporadically, and we shall miss that very much.
Sadly, I would complain about his mess and even when we moved here we had tried to give him away, but nobody wanted him…I would tease our sons that he would be living with us well after they were grown and on their own and sure enough I was right. At the time we had gotten him they were six and three, and now they are 34 and 37 and long on their own.
On those memories I must admit with a bit of sadness welling up in my throat I will bid the old bird one last fond farewell dear old friend; it has been interesting and entertaining!
Good night to all and to all count those blessing and we will too!

Around we go and nobody knows where we will end up...
It is true that Hubby has had it basically with his Mom since she called the evil daughter and had forgotten why she had been told what she had, had happen to her back in the fall of this past year.
Since this went down it doesn’t mean that we have not been worried about her and her well-being because we also know that the helpful always there for Mom neighbor has also washed his hands of her for the same reasons.
And so I have taken it upon myself to call her daily to make sure she has eaten, taken her medicine, etc., and today I asked if she had someone to take her to church?
Unfortunately, she was waiting for that kindly neighbor; she always goes to mass there around 11:15 A.M., and he had been taking her. So she was waiting for him, she forgot that he told her no more and that is because she told him that she thought he too was out to get her and had told him so. I asked if she had heard from her daughter that maybe she would be taking her, meanwhile keeping her on the phone the whole time she was waiting to be picked up, but no one came to do that mundane task, not her neighbor, not her daughter, no one.
Smack in your face reality!
I asked if she had heard from her daughter or had she been taken out to eat or to the grocery by the daughter, no was the answer to both, only to the banks and that her daughter was picking her up tomorrow too, to go where I asked, she said we have an eleven o’clock appointment at the bank.
She started crying and even said she felt faint, I called her bluff and asked if she is living in the 1890’s and perhaps was getting the vapors? She began to laugh. I also said what happen to the tough lady who raised three children basically by herself and never let anyone push her around?
But she did want to get off the phone but honestly she said that she had to go to the bathroom, and so I called her back within the half hour to see if perhaps her ride was just late, and guess what I got a new woman!
One who was strong and forthright and realized that what I told her about seeing a doctor for her memory and walking difficulties was what she was going to do to take care herself, and she was calling the daughter up to tell her not to come to tomorrow! YEAH! Which she thought of all be herself I must add.
She had already last week asked for her check back from her moving down here from that independent living place but she had not received it, and insists that it was all her change of heart that no one influenced her, huh, ok…
I did mention the option of getting a home healthcare worker perhaps to come in to help her remember to eat and take her medicine a few days a week, and that perhaps Medicare would pay for it, but at least she would have someone to remind her. I said then if she wanted to stay put that could be another option.
Long distance care of the elderly with memory problems is not easy; all we can do is check as often as possible. Oh and do you know what the last thing is she said to me was? That she loved us both, me and Hubby that is and we said it back to her… that makes it seem all worthwhile…
Not really…since Hubby and I have been going loony from all this! LOL
On that pleasant note good night to all and to count your blessings and we will too!

Freedom of speech...YEA!
I am an American!
And I do believe in the freedom of speech!
But I thought the way it was written in the Bill of Rights as it being in the first amendment of the Constitution that if you insight to riot, then you lose that right?
At that time it referred to yelling fire in a crowded theater, but today wouldn’t it go further to create an atmosphere also to anger a mob or group of people that causes an environment which makes them feel the need to commit violent acts?
Come on people is it not true that all the negativity being spewed about this administration decisions are harmful to all Americans to some degree?
It is disturbing to me and many others that the threats of harm to people voting as they feel in their hearts for what they truly believe in to be helpful to others this should not cause them to be fearful of having an opinion. Too many do not agree.
Constitutionally we are all reading into the actual wordings with our own slants at times; don’t you agree?
Many interpretations are how we see what our forefathers were actually trying to say and to pass that down to us.
Some believe that the way they read those documents are the only way, and I must admit people do also have reasoning to go on with reading the Holy Bible in any edition. I cannot speak for other faiths only the Judo-Christianity ones that I am mostly familiar with.
But gosh over the years I have been shocked in what people think all those stories told really meant.
And so has the way people paraphrasing of our official papers stating how to run this fine country that we are lucky enough to live in.
Sadly, I bet the authors of those documents would be horrified of what we think they were telling us to do.
As an American I bet you know it is also OK to disagree with people about those aspects of interpretations, our differences from what you believed to be the case?
I know right now you are thinking WHOA… Tobi why so vague in what you are trying to say?
All right then I happen to disagree with many people who think they are right, and voice their opinions with full media coverage unlike my one dimensional shouting from this venue, unfair and not loud enough for all to hear!
In three months, children of pre-existing illnesses will benefit better from this new healthcare bill, which is good, but personally I will not since it will not be going into effect until 2014 for adults with pre-existing.
Contrary to many uninformed people not all uninsured are poor. I personally only do not have health insurance because I am pre-existing, and I have said this before way too many times to remember that I would much prefer to be paying off premiums rather than paying off my hospital bills and surgeries, which I am doing right now and that would be the same price as all those premiums! It does seem ridiculous to me that people think it is welfare. I suppose those are the same ones who currently receive Social Security and Medicare? Surprise so does my Hubby receive them, but not me! I am missing like two or three credits for disability, and I am too young for Medicare and our INCOME IS TOO MUCH for Medicaid! Hello fellow Americans, wake up and learn all the facts before assuming!
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!
PS Bro-in-law if you are so well-off why are you still working your butt off…; living above your means, are you? Hubby retired nearly four years ago due to his injury and we were smart enough to scale down twelve years ago due to my illness so we are financially capable of paying our bills without having to work a few jobs like you and have enough, since physically we are unable to anyway! So stop bragging about all you have; its getting old and very annoying, and a wee bit mean too!
