Leaving for home a day early!

Spoke to a NBC-2 affiliate in Ft. Myers to NBC in NYC, news anchor Rachel Pierce, and asked her if any of her team knew how much damage, if any, or flooding, if any, in Port Charlotte?
PS we have been watching their 24/7 coverage of Irma from my laptop in our hotel room, excellent by the way!

The answer was short and not sugar coated, but also very hopeful, Port Charlotte did not receive much damage nor flooding, but most likely is out of power; not verbatim, but the gist of the answer.

Nearly six million people are without power in our state of Florida, so of course, why not us too, we lose power due to mini rain storms even without a historic rain event like IRMA, so yeah sure!

With two generators and gas to fill them, hopefully they are still where Hubby left them along side the garage in that courtyard. Even the six foot wooden white gate was nailed shut, all of our other four gates too, we should be fine.

It could be days, weeks or months until the power is back on!
Been there before, we can cope... I sure hope! Yes we can, yes we can!

Hubby is out scrounging for food, Steak and Shake is open but once there he found the wait to be two to three hours!
He thought he found a Publix grocery in the shopping center near it open, but no dice, they have great rotisserie chicken and salads to go with them.

But he did find out the Target was open, next door to the Publix, and he is bringing back to our temporary home Extended Stay America Suites two frozen dinners, one a diet special for me and him a lasagna, but also... drum roll please...  a pint of ice cream to share and finish since ice cream does not travel well on a few hours car trip, its flavor undetermined, his choice, my surprise!
Sort of defeats the purpose of my smart lite dinner, oh well...

We are under stress!

An understatement to say the least.

Comfort food, mixed with doing things in no air-conditioning, sweaty... see there is a balance!

Any-who, we have been calling our home's landline that has voice mail on it, and we felt trying that could determine if we have any electric power or phones, and nothing happened, no answer... although two times there was a busy signal that was a bit strange and disconcerning, the conclusion was our version of reassuring logic someone else was trying to call us at the same time? (Albeit we do have call waiting... uh oh!)

Does it really matter?

We are still nearly two hundred miles away from OUR HOME.

And there is no one to ask to check.

Odd question anyway, police could you see why our phone is getting a busy signal...NAH!
Oh well.

Moving on...

Hubby and I also tried finding any local stores here to buy things, some were, as I mentioned above
they have reopened.

And that positive action spawned my desire while Hubby was out to see if any were open at home in Port Charlotte!

I thought it would be great if our local goto shops were.

Sam's Club, I tried due to them having food, and other storm related necessities as well as gas, darn no one answered!

I then called our Super Walmart and they too would have many things we needed minus gas...and the phone was answered!
A woman saying that she was security said that they would be open tomorrow at 7 A.M.!

YAY!

Progress!

Who would have thunk it something as simple as locating a food source in a civilized land such as FLORIDA, okay maybe, maybe not... would be such a BIG DEAL?

Love to all, try my dear Florida state friends and neighbors to our north and across the Gulf and relatives all over the place try to have a happy night, we are through the worst of it, so share those blessings and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
