Bloated

Still; the day after...
Is there a reason why we all feel the need to eat our weight's worth in glorious food on that particular holiday every year?
Too bad the temporary bulge isn't useful in helping us float to our shopping places where the race seems to begin earlier yearly!
Imagine the effect/affect one would have on the expediting of the efficiency of accomplishing those first offers that we are brainwashed to have to have mentality of most of the first to arriving shoppers who win the prize of the deal that makes them feel oh so special and as if they won a lottery or some other contest I imagine.

Being of the retail background, meaning I worked in the field for approximately twenty-years on and off, not counting service fields ownership of, sprinkler business, and personal ownership wicker store and restaurant that totaled those thirty plus years.
I cannot wrap myself around the hassle or the excitement of the need to get those bargains that are seemingly badly ordered quantities by the major department stores buying staffs. Why trick people into thinking that low, low price will only be for so long and its only items by the numbers last until gone, which on occasion is as few as two, okay perhaps a few more, maybe one hundred.

To me in my bi-religion marriage with adult children who need or want for nothing and without grandchildren the rationale for either Christmas or Hanuka purchasing has not been a necessity. Relatives meaning other than immediate family had refrained from the exchanging of gifts decades ago by general agreement by all parties.

So our reasoning to join in in the practice of the lunacy in rushing off before dinner is done to save a few bucks to us is a noncompliance factor and not in our court of desire.

While I worked in the three department stores, first was Ohrbach's for a few years, next was Lord and Taylor's from engagement through to baby and even after moving and having a baby working in a Jamesway for a few months, all extremely different price points but all making employees stay Christmas Eve late. Thankfully in Bergen County NJ where Orbach's was in Paramus at the Bergen Mall until they went out of business and Lord and Taylor's is in Ridgewood at the Fashion Center, if it was Sunday they were closed since when I was there they heeded to Blue Laws and I believe they still do, and that time period was through high school and college. Jamesway was in Lakewood NJ, after married and a mom, and they did not have Blue Laws so any of those seven days a week you HAD to work if you were scheduled.

As a consumer and also on the other side of consumerism, even though I worked everything from sales to floor management, department management to credit manager people are definitely different during "the holidays", I suppose even myself when I was finally away from the other end for a while.
So my perspective is one of being on both ends and to me over the years I still don't get it... the reasoning of pitching a tent and waiting on lines for anything including a good deal not a great deal. Sure they say 50% or 90% off or what have you, but you do know the prices are raised in order to do that, right?
Okey dokey if you don't I do know that you still believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, who no one has been able to define how "he" lays eggs.

Any-who, please don't be judgmental and call me a Scrooge, for I am not that, it is all a matter of opinion, mine, ha. Giving in life is not just of materialistic things as one learns when times are hard; it is making time for the ones you care about, being helpful to all and thanking people, being honest to all the ones in your life no matter what, letting the ones you love know that unconditionally and in so many other ways to show you truly like the people in your life.
Oh I don't know just try harder to not let consumerism like techno gadgets take over your lives... On the upside I suppose running out to shop is one realistic way to cure the after dinner bloats!
On second thought perhaps next year I will try to come along for the run...nah.

On that note of silliness of rationale, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know whom and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

Geez that felt good, back on track!
