Trying to get a disposable
filter for an air/heat unit wouldn’t be that difficult, hmm?
Why me then?
Yep, I know that we have been
spoiled these last fifteen years with our forever filter that all Hubby has had
to do was take it out into the garage and wash it in our utility sink out there
with some Lysol on the fifteenth of each and every month?
But no, apparently that’s not
good enough and so now with the professional environmentalist’s recommendation
I had to go on a quest to make this home a much healthier place to dwell, not
just for me but for all of thee/we, Hubby, Skipper and me too!
A hepa filter was what I
aimed to find, not difficult for standard issue, that is sizes that are the
usual, but ours is NOT!
In fact not one place had our
odd size, of 12 ½” by 21”, less than one inch thick and so I called the
manufacturer, why not?
We have a Ruud or I should say a Rheem unit, but Ruud is where I went and as soon as Blake heard the model number and the serial number he said you do know that is a Rheem?
We have a Ruud or I should say a Rheem unit, but Ruud is where I went and as soon as Blake heard the model number and the serial number he said you do know that is a Rheem?
I said oh yes that is what it
does say on it, and he said that’s okay he would check for the filter and he
took my name and phone number to call me back…
In the interim I Googled
Rheem and found out that they did not have a toll free number on their site, in
fact no phone number that I could see at all; only email contact with a form
that asked everything but my rank, and so I filled it out with of course their
request for the model and serial number and the empty space for the question
and so again I requested our special sized one, but as of yet I still had not
hear back from them!
During this waiting period I
again Googled, but this time our not usual size need and this time I was able
to ascertain someone who had it, well not it but specialized in making it
accordingly to the actual size that you needed!
And oddly enough it was
Lowe’s online only, not in their store either, through the manufacturer
Filtrete and it will be protecting us from dust-mites, mold spores, pet
dander, smoke, smog, bacteria, particles that carry viruses and odor, lint,
dust and pollen and each one in the six pack lasts ninety days and all that for
just $124.20 plus tax, with free shipping, although it won’t be here until
11-24-13, which is a Sunday, I suppose the specialty guys delivery even then?!
Hours passed by and I decided
to called Blake back before I made and absolute commitment and asked if he was
able to find our size?
He said that yes he had and I
asked him how much would it be?
And he said $49.97. I asked
for how many? He said, just the one. I said how long does it last? He said
ninety days, and I told him about the ones I found he said go for it and that he
was familiar with the brand and they are good! He doesn't know me, of course my finding was more cost effective and with his way high price it was a given to go with my finding!
And so I did commit, but as I
said it will take nine days to get here.
But that lag time bothers me;
why now when we have gone this long without…that's rather silly of me, hmm?
The Petri dishes were thrown
out today via Hubby. I had asked Kent Macci from the Sarasota environmental health division on what was the proper way of disposal of them
and he said the same way as you would dispose of those science projects in the
fridge, encompass it in a plastic bag, and next throw it away in garbage can!
Here’s a final look at the nastiness growth and yes, that is/was ours!
On that note of YUCK, allow
me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you
to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know
who and we will too!
And next time please be here
or be square, ya hear!
