The Fifth Estate

A while back I was studying the who's, what’s, wherefores, when's, and which's of all the needed ingredients that go into writing in this newest genre that I personally started doing on  June 25. 2008.

That is this type of hacking away with op-ed or blogger type, new concept, an electronic rendition of editorials, therefore the reasoning of an op-ed, meaning specifically an opinion piece or editorial, got that?

Sure you do…

Well, folks this is the FIFTH Estate, and here is it in a nutshell, the concise meaning of:

“A fifth estate is a group within a society that is seen as operating outside of the society's normal groupings in terms of their roles and viewpoints, especially a group that is considered beyond the restrictions or rules of those other groupings. The concept originates from the classical (18th-century) formulation that a society has four basic estates: clergy (first estate), the nobility (second estate), the commoners (third estate), and the press (fourth Estate). The concept of a fifth estate is most strongly associated with journalists and media outlets (including the blogosphere) that are seen as being outside of or in opposition to the mainstream media, or official press. It may also include political groups or other groups that are seen as outside the mainstream in their views.”

I highly recommend reading more about this topic on that site; specifically about blogs influences on the media, politics etc; it is truly amazing and proves once again that the pen still can be mightier than the sword!

Now with this newer concept of blogging that has taken off over these last several years a movie has been released called “The Fifth Estate”, which is about a very recent happening in the news, a true story about, well, this is better than what I might have to say, the actual synopsis, “Bill Condon's thriller The Fifth Estate charts the creation of WikiLeaks by the ambitious and arguably ethically dubious Julian Assange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie opens with Assange hiring Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Daniel Brühl), a fellow tech whiz, to help him keep his new website operational. The site gave whistleblowers an entirely anonymous platform to share classified documents, and soon the pair find themselves in possession of information that will bring down a corrupt bank. As their power and influence grows, they must consider teaming with established media sources, especially when they are sent documents that would reveal ultra-sensitive state secrets from some of the world's most-powerful governments. The Fifth Estate screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi” Thanks to: http://www.fandango.com/thefifthestate_v574426/plotsummary

“In the weeks before the film’s release, the real Mr. Assange has not been shy about sharing his feelings, publishing an open letter to Mr. Cumberbatch on the WikiLeaks site and describing “The Fifth Estate” in an e-mail to a New York Times reporter as “a reactionary snoozefest that only the U.S. government could love.”

And so I see that even we critique ourselves! I know that I do.

Any-who, I do not travel in the same circles as the above mentioned, but I do like that I am in fact in the same neuvo industry of creating online op-ed pieces.

Legit journalists  are more likely to be accurate, but we all love to feel or say whatever turns our fancy, or tries one’s nerves, or makes our hearts beat faster, or annoy you or your sensibilities, you get the idea... We can be unfiltered or censor ourselves to a PG, even a G rating.

So now that you know why and what we do and for what reason we may be doing this…GOSH, the only reason I do this is to be able to be a part of the world order and alive, and keep tangible records that I was here, and complain, have consumer alerts, to help others and myself and to find commonalities with others or not…and make you wince, or cry or cheer, think uh huh or say yes, me too!

Perhaps, someday, all this will be considered a noble avocation, not unlike legit journalists, but until then give me liberty or give me a working keyboard and I will be here for the few or the many!

Huh?

YES!

As I have said before I look forward to my daily entries to this online diary of mine and I welcome all of you to view my thoughts and expressions of ideas nightly to be impartial or partial observers for I actually hear from very few of you… that is a good or bad thing depending on my own ability to listen to someone else, which I must admit is not as easy as one might think…

With my ills, sadly my patience and ability to control emotions has dwindle sadly to not there very much at all…oddly so that even when I was a so-called healthy being I was also overly sensitive, but would blurt out things that would make a truck driver blush…filters gone when upset, scary!

NO excuses, I’m just saying… and so this is my best way to speak/interact with others. (No more face to face, too combative, except with Hubby, of course)

I sure hope that you did enjoy our venture into what the Fifth Estate is and why bloggers are considered that, hmm? At least it’s a change of pace from all those other nights of politicking…!

On that note of who knows what, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages with you know who and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
