Since our new pharmacy was closed by the time we arrived home last night Hubby dropped off my renewal prescriptions plus my new one this morning.
Boy was I happy when he offered to go first thing this morning when they opened at nine A.M.
I had had another bad night with awakening around two thirty for a while and then finally up for the day a little after six A.M.
I so hoped that this new medication would help me with my lingering problem that seems to never end, that is my sinusitis!
When Hubby came home I was quick to take the new pill, hoping to feel better as fast as I could, you tell me, who wants to NOT feel right again if there is something to help make that change for the good, hmm?
Foolishly, I did not read the information that all the pharmacies seem to give these days with indications and usage, contra-indications, and any possible side-effects, you all know the drill.
Benzonatate Cap 100MG 3X a day is what I got and this is what it is for ‘a cough’?
This is how it should be used: swallow whole, do not chew. (They are Gel caps and a big yuck if any of those are ever chewed!)
Possible side effects: Stomach discomfort or pain; Dizziness; Headache, Nasal congestion; Numbness; Skin rash and lastly ‘sedation’!
Other precautions:
May cause dizziness and stomach upset? Avoid alcohol. (Oh pooh!)
How should it be stored?
Keep in original container in a dark cool and dry place away from children. Discard unneeded medicine.
What if I miss a dose?
Take when remembered unless time for the next dose. No double doses.
Well, isn’t this just ducky?
Do any of you out there see why there might be a wee bit of a problem?
Let’s take the first part, for a cough… well, he had to drag that out of me since I was there due to my sinuses and I told him that! The cough was a tickle he insisted I had.
Sure the pill itself, now who would want to swallow a gel cap whole, bitter as it could be!
Check out those side effects, hmm?
That’s my daily problems! Ataxia causes me to have balance problems; I am on Dexilant for GERD and Pepcid Complete other indigestion problems. My numbness is part of my Multiple Sclerosis called parathesia, and the nasal problem IS THE SINUSES WITH THAT HORRENDOUS CONSTANT HEADACH! Am I NOT BEING HEARD? I GUESS NOT!
Why would I want something to ingest to give me more of the same, really?
Well, to be fair the rash hasn’t happened in over a year; when it did occur it was more than likely caused from something in the swimming pool, possibly a reaction to too much chlorine, and heaven knows all I do want is to have some sedation, to finally get some sleep, but at what price?
Who in their right mind would put any drugs where a child could reach it, that’s just stupid, hmm?
I don’t have any little ones around here, would like some, but no, my sons of thirty-five and thirty- nine have none and they are too old and way too far away to worry about them getting into my drug stash, hmm?
Although, even though I have consistently told pharmacies that I have arthritic hands and I cannot open the child lock caps so I do not need them, but I still get them!
Hubby turns them over for me, but sometimes I have been able to, on rare occasions… thankfully they produced those that are convertible from child-lock to adult open a few years ago!
To say I spent many hours on the phone today would be an understatement!
In the end the outcome is that, the doctor who prescribed the medication was not in today but by Monday I should hear back!
Meanwhile another additional prescription was prescribed, an antihistamine called Zyrtec 10MG. for allergies, now how does he know that is what this is?
I suppose that might be closer, but with all my other drugs I am a bit leery…
It was called in and they backstroked that that was also handed to me, but as far as the pharmacist and I and Hubby know, NO IT WASN’T!
Oh well, it’s there now if I want it, fear and concern is the only thing holding me back.
By the way I did ask the pharmacist to recommend a doctor and she did wholeheartedly, and Hubby checked him out on the hospital site.
And his resume was impressive and I called and he answered his own phone and wanted to know why our number was blocked.
I said maybe because my husband is retired law enforcement… interestingly though when I call an 800 number they have it on their caller I.D.
He was very nice and pleasant, but of course he did not know what he charged people without insurance, I knew he wouldn’t they have people for that and so I will be calling back Monday to his billing department.
I did make an appointment for my blood tests though, before this all went down, my small debacle, and that is because it was half as expensive as my last quote for that, and my neuro wants it and it has been over a year and so I do need it too!
On that not boring or fun day allow me though to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you kindly count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
PS On the bright side at least I can still have a glass of wine tonight, ha!
