Ah, the weekend!

What is it about ‘the weekend’ that makes even the youngest child and eldest adult go, ‘ah the weekend is coming up and we have plans’?
Or do we?
Yes!
Everyone finds something of interest to do on ‘the weekend’, whether it is just relaxing and basically doing nothing productive or going out on a date or concert or a sporting event or a party with a spouse, just shopping or I don’t know to family for a holiday or whatever…

Some certain types of employment do NOT have what most consider ‘the weekend’ off, since everyone from retailers to realtors to police and fire fighters do not have those days off, unless on vacation or ill, usually; they do work most all weekends since activity in those fields appears to heighten on those days. I suppose it is because more people are out and about…hmm? Even people in entertainment biz rarely are home or ‘off’ on weekends, here in the US of A, considered ‘Saturday and Sunday’.
Hubby became a deputy back in 1995 and when he did it was an adjustment to him since his previous lines of work or self employment, aside from our restaurant he had weekends for the taking to do whatever he so desired.
That is when I wasn’t working for others in promotion of retailing, nope for those two we absolutely worked weekends, but I have to admit I loved that and the high energy that gave to me!
To me though it seems silly that when you are retired like we are now and not working at all to be looking forward to the weekend, since most days are no different than any other for we have the freedom and time to do anything we so desire during the week days too! See, silly!
The only problem is that many of the exciting happenings seem to occur on ‘the weekends’ due to the availability of the masses.
And so mundane tasks are done during ‘the week’, conventionally Monday through Friday and so even so we are ‘retired’ we too have to wait for what the promoters do to create excitement in our ‘neck of the woods’, neighborhood, or county what-have-you.
Sure some things are ‘ongoing’ as they call them… which sadly also can mean ‘boring’ if you have seen them many times before.

Hubby had a wild idea to call any two days in a row he had off or three when he would go four tens of work, his weekend, but I poo pooed it, to me it was irreverent to do that to ‘the weekend’ of the world’s Saturday and Sunday, also the two days that most religions celebrate their days of rest, huh?
Even when I first started working retail I worked in a county in NJ that had the ‘Blue Laws’, which meant everything was closed on Sunday!
I don’t know if they still exist, but when I moved to the southern part of the state, they did not have them and so we worked the weekends including Sunday. Florida didn’t appear to have them either, since as a district manager of five stores in five counties they too were all open on Sunday and therefore all weekend long too!
Exhausting is all I got to say about that and boy I am so glad that I am out of that rat-race!
But oddly enough all fund raisers for the different organizations I worked for had most all their special events due to turnout being greater, scheduled on weekends and so yep I still worked even in my ‘bum years’ as I called some of my on again off again non-profit affiliations that went on for over forty years, when I was just plain Mom or a workaholic doing it all but getting paid outside of the home… even when our sons were long gone on their own, I was a free for all in the ‘volunteer business’, week days and weekends and not working for pay gal! But still working, you know what I mean…
And yes, I would change none of it, since all is mostly fond memories.
I do long for some of it occasionally; it’s only been a few years since…
But when I did it I could give ‘my all’, during a remission time, so-to-speak, and now it wouldn’t be that way, since ‘my all’, ain’t what it used to be…and that would not be fair to anyone.
Sounds harsh 'all or nothing', but that’s me, sorry!
In reality that’s not true since I write this nightly and occasionally give not for profit information, which I do hope helps some.
And I still do advocacy online for anyone who asks and so I am still sort of in the game…
We donate smaller amounts of monies too, and buy products that help different organizations, and so we do our part I guess.

Now this might clutter your ideas of what you may want to do with your weekends but may I make a suggestion?
I hear you!
Of course I cannot, but if I could hear you say, “SURE!”
Find out what’s happening on the weekend that you are off and just go volunteer to help or do something you really care about. Of course if you aren’t employed right now and have many days off when not looking, do it too then, it costs nothing and lifts the saddest of us spirits to be there for others! Who knows now this is a slight unknown fact but some people looking to employ others do it and you could meet your new boss… who knows… but that’s not why you should, you should do it because it helps, really helps!

On that note of my interference in ‘your weekend’, not to mention your life… allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

PS: two updates: the other night when I could not sit here to write was due to a tummy malfunction, but it resolved, didn’t want to bother you with my all too common daily problems, and why I did now is beyond me…LOL!
Oh, that was only one, two was that although my thumb seems to have healed skin-wise amazingly to me with just a small scar, but it seems that I continue to have a burning sensation on it and it is worse when it gets wet. I hope this too will go away…any suggestions?
