Being an animal/nature lover more on TV now, and down to only one house pet too these days, but still enjoy watching others with theirs and of course all those TV shows starring critters.
But to me the ones where people have bears in their suburban home’s garbage or like the family who had one in their living room make me not that surprised.
Why, you so boldly ask? Sure you didn’t, but if you had this is what I would have said in response to your intriguing query…
We humans have been the intruders impinging on these creatures lands for the last few centuries and sure enough they are ‘as mad as hell-o and aren’t going to take it anymore!’ is what I think!
Simple and don’t tell me you haven’t thought that too.
We all know better than to step into other human beings space unwelcomed. Well, most do. I for one never do really know my limitations in that arena and they are well documented right here in previous displays of my different way of reasoning... And so when I suggest that we are not capable of getting it, now get your mind out of the gutter, I feel it is not unlike other forms of compassion, which is putting yourself in the other person’s position for understanding or in this case, dare I say… animal’s head/thought-waves of needs and desires.
Oh, you say.
Now you think they have needs and desires and I will say in response, of course they do!
They are alive!
Where do you think the term ‘creature comforts’ comes from, my goodness?
Yep, “my goodness has nothing to do with it” Mae West circa 1932 line from the Movie, “Night After Night”.
We all say the right things when we know that animals have to have their space and we do too.
And I will be the first to come to the defense of any animal that needs me in their corner; I am a sap for them all…
And I believe wild animals need their freedom and domestic animals need our care and love.
With that said, did you know that there are two schools of thought on the rearing of house cats?
Those of us who believe they should be house cats with litter boxes and scratching posts or declawing of their front claws and not allowed out to get hit by cars or in fights with other animals and that an indoor cat has a longer life expectancy that an outdoor one due to those things and might possibly eat harmful poisonous vegetation.
The others are those who believe that cats need to go out into the fresh air and should be wild and free and possibly and utilize gardens within the neighborhood to relive themselves without a neighborly concern for others who may be trying to grow eatable vegetables…hmm… (And no, domestic animal poop/feces is not fertilizer; it can actually cause bad bacterium and harm to the crop and to you eating the crop)
I cannot say who is right or wrong but we had cats for over fifty years and except for the one when I was a small child the rest were the all extremely well cared for house variety and lived long loving lives.
Sadly, I have seen many pets hit by cars on roadways and wonder how people could allow that to happen to a creature they consider a loving pet/family member.
This topic I am more than sure is controversial with many people, but it had to be said.
And you know me, the elephant in the room lady; discussing what’s considered taboo… need I say more.
Sadly we have been cat-less for a few years now and with my medical issues it is the first time that I can remember in my adulthood that that has happened… but we were the housecat people.
And when I see adorable little ones romping all over unencumbered and free to go here or there I worry for their safety and also for the eventual planting of our veggie garden which Hubby has begun with seeds and we know in spite of our large fence many a pussycat has pooped in our backyard gardens and it is very unpleasant to find when digging to plant some floras…
Hubby took the high road with our new neighbors across the street that believe that cats should go out and mingle with nature and such, he asked them kindly to please not to do that with the garden going to be started very soon.
And they said they would not allow them out and within days those cute little pussycats were in our yard and using our gardens as their litter boxes once again!
I fault the owner/ parents of the kits not the children/cats by any means; controversy at its lame finest, huh?
Yes, I know it is so miniscule a problem with all the true nasty stuff going on in the world… but the couple who have these kitty companions are not elderly they are a young couple under thirty I venture to guess without any ills and so it is not a matter of not being able to keep an indoor litter box or the cats inside and yes there is more than one, two I think; both quite handsome felines, if I do say so myself…
The feral ones left behind by people who lacked the compassion or ability to re- place ones they could not care for are a different story and sadly some still appear on occasion, but these are not that.
Perhaps many will feel that I am too ridiculous about this and feel as many others do… but mine were in my indoor care and quite respectful and loving and had long lives. As I once said or wrote when I was a wee bit better then I am now and we kept finding someone’s doggie’s doodoos on our front lawn, “Our dog doesn’t make on your lawn and so please don’t let yours make on ours!” The sign was placed for about a week and the problem was solved.
And that is all I am saying it is not neighborly to allow a domestic pet/ companion to poop on your neighbors property, that’s all…
On those words to live by allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to count all your blessings and to share all your overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
