Envy, covetousness, resentment, protectiveness, suspicion and distrust are all definitions of jealousy.
It’s a nasty emotion that as adults we should not have.
But why do some of us still have that adolescent feeling of not being as good as… and why do you flinch when you see others who you think are better than you do and why do you think that you cannot do it too?
Is something lacking in your character that creates this misbehavior or misunderstanding?
Or is it something more insidious?
Many suffer from lack of self control and therefore confidence and do terrible things to make up for what they may have missing within their souls, like a meanness that has no filter if it was allowed escape or to be spoken aloud.
What I want to know is it a normal emotion?
Perhaps it is not.
Euphemistically speaking it has been referred to as having the ‘green-eyed monster’ sticking out its ugly head.
For mental health purposes is it important to find out why the feeling exists or better to just think about how to handle it when it tries to rear its ugliness?
Personally I try to choose the latter.
Take deep breaths and say isn’t it wonderful that so and so is doing this or that so much better than yourself and that you are so proud to be considered their friend or acquaintance or a friend of a friend or relative, or what?
Is that like a left handed compliment, and we all know what that is, huh?
Oh you don’t?
It’s not totally clear in this much confused brain of mine either, but I do believe it refers to not being sincere with what you are saying?
I know; isn’t that like lying; which is silly because it IS lying!
Well, I can’t do that!
I tried it for a couple of times on different things in my life and it came back to bite me in my rear-end, well not really, you know figuratively, oh no; is that lying too?
This has got to stop!
How can we be politely honest and still not hurt feelings when telling others how we truly feel about them?
I got nothing; do you?
Many have suggested in not being shallow in your choices when finding people to befriend, just make sure you chose wisely, hmmm where did I hear that before?
In my recent past I have wanted to chose people who I felt I could learn from and were smarter than me, which does give me a wealth of billions to choose from, eh? LOL!
I suppose that’s why jealousy could come up for me not unlike the general population of the rest of the world, right?
Gosh, am I hypocritical or what?
On what you may ask?
Why on my choosing my friends' list.
Most all of the ones I chose are ‘quite something’, as my Dad would have said … they are amazing with all their accomplishments and abilities, no matter what!
Incredible, is such a small word for describing all these persons.
I suppose it is a flaw in that person who cannot control that negative sensation namely referred to as 'jealousy', but for the rest of us we must look for the silver lining in all our relationships and utilize that knowledge from those wise wonderful people and turn it around to learn, learn, and learn! It is a rearrangement of the thought process to turn negatives into positives, huh?
And so on that, what was that?
Who knows, but please allow me to be the first to ask you to kindly count those blessings and to share those overages and we will too!
And please next time be here or be square, ya hear?
Speaking My Mind is about: Tobi, who is a middle aged, no, oh all right a slightly over the hill woman with all the imperfections that go with that, and this concerns her daily life's perceptions and experiences.
