Hubby's turn... part 2...

And so I took his blood pressure once again this morning just after eight A.M. and it went back way up, 174/101, and so by eight thirty Hubby took a chance and called the doctor. And sure enough his nurse was in to set up the appointment for still ten thirty when the doctor was due in. And we got there early thinking that there would be paperwork and we all know that is part of the usual drill for any first time patient and sure enough there was.

We arrived shortly after ten; at ten o-eight to be exact. And the wait began since within minutes Hubby was through with the one page info that was collected. The nurse a woman that I would say slightly older than us and not that dissimilar to my tomato shaped form but topped with whitish gray hair and a cherubic face that matched her personality. She would say every once in a while that the doctor had been held up by an emergency at the hospital but was on his way. Only one other patient was waiting in the waiting room with us a young man of forty-five with many ills from mental inclusive of bi-polar and depression to physical with back and knee pain and on and on he went, but in spite of all that he was not at all annoyingly friendly just talkative too, ha not that different from myself with the talking that is and litany of medical issues I suppose.

And since Hubby was too worried he really was not in a talking mood.
Unfortunately, as time marched on I too became more concerned about him being a bit withdrawn and his concern was working against him. So I requested for the nurse to check his vitals and in order to do that she put us in an examining room in the back and sure enough his pressure was doing a nasty jig of non co-operation, and it again was up and this time 195/115, damn!

The nurse saw that the issue was one of STAT nature and so she tried contacting the doctor and within moments he called back and apparently told her what to do. She gave Hubby a pill, the same as what he had been given in the hospital, but only one this time, not two. It was now twelve P.M. and since we had been talking and enjoying the company we never realized how the time had kept getting away from us, well that’s not true, because of course we really did. But to be honest the old me, would have been very angry by then. For some reason I held my temper because I did not want to upset Hubby, besides by now my own stomach was in pain and so I took a Pepcid and went outside because it was rather cold in the room we had been placed in.

When I came back in Hubby had been told to lie on the examining table and close his eyes and rest; the lights had been lowered to aid the medication in working. There was no pillow around to rest his head and so I gave him my macramé pocketbook to use, it wasn’t that soft but not that hard either and it did suffice in a pinch.

I rubbed his arms and spoke softly trying not to upset him and sure enough when the nurse returned in fifteen minutes his blood pressure had dropped but not that much yet 174/101 slowly we were getting there, but she called back the doctor anyway and I could tell that she was genuinely concerned and so was I, but of course I could not show it.
Although, as the time passed and she took it again it did drop more significantly and then we were all happier. By now, Hubby and I had to go out to warm up we were both very cold; and finally the doctor arrived while we were outside there!

Once Hubby was seen he was also informed that he had slightly elevated cholesterol of 236 but his HDL or good cholesterol was very good and so the doctor has now put him on blood pressure and cholesterol lowering medication; and I do believe we are both relived by that action and the doctor's resolve to the unhealthy problem. The doctor has Hubby returning in a week for a check of his blood pressure and to make sure the medication is working.

After the office visit we took the prescriptions over to the pharmacy at our Publix to be filled and Hubby was told it would take an hour, by now it was two o’clock and we decided we could get a healthy lunch at the Subway in the parking lot.
Hubby had turkey on multigrain with light mayo and lettuce tomato and onion with caffeine free root beer soda and I had my usual salad with all their veggies and a scoop of their seafood salad and light spicy buffalo dressing and my own bottled water I snuck in…oops, did I say that?

Any-who, for dinner we had Tilapia, mashed potatoes with I can’t believe its not butter and Mrs. Dash table blend, string beans with extra virgin olive oil drizzled on top!
Pretty tasty and so you all know all heart, blood pressure and cholesterol smart!

On that note of resigned adaptation to our new equally healthy food ways let me be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to all kindly count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS: Great job Mr. President! Keep up the good work.
