Well, I won’t be out in the rain singing anytime soon, but it is a lovely memory of that movie, don’t you think?
The rain came in this morning rather violently causing tornado watches and warnings throughout the region, fortunately none developed. You see, December is usually the driest month of the year here, and we already broke a few records with our unusual rainfall! I suppose the rain is making up now for that rather dry summer we just had. But at least we aren’t as bad off as our other coast here, the east coast, because they had fourteen inches in Miami and we only had a few… Whoa to them with all their flooding!
It was hunkering down soup making kind of a day, and so that is what I did, yep I made some New England clam chowder, which was just what the weather called for!
Snowy days up north in those days they were great baking days warming up the kitchen and the moods of the children when they would have a day off from school due to the snow, and play outside building forts, sledding, skating or whatever and come back inside to take a break for lunch. In those days the wood stove (upstairs) and the fireplace (downstairs) would also be ignited to add to the ambiance and lessen the heating bills!
These days in the southland we really didn’t need any soup to warm us since even with the cooling rain it was still in the mid seventies most of the day. It’s just that with the gloomy weather mood we needed some internally warmth hugs; you all know what I mean, right?
Weather has always had an effect on human behavior or mood since time immemorial, but does anyone really know why? Psychologists and other mind doctors have tried to uncover the reasoning, and it is still up in the air, so to speak. But we all know that sunshine makes us smile, and gloomy rain makes us sad, and now there is even a syndrome connected to it. Something to think about and verify when the next time you look out during the nasty weather, do something that makes you happy while inside, and when the weather is great…go out and enjoy it! That’s the ticket!
On that conclusive note I will wish you all a very good night and count those blessings and I will too!
Speaking My Mind is about: Tobi, who is a middle aged, no, oh all right a slightly over the hill woman with all the imperfections that go with that, and this concerns her daily life's perceptions and experiences.
