On the road again!

Today we went on a major trip...for us that is...over 90 miles round trip to our neighbor city to the south Ft. Myers Beach. We decided to try for an entire day out and we left home by ten-ish and returned before three-ish? Not quite a day’s journey but good enough for us.

As adventurous as that may seem to some for us it was a much necessary change to an average boring lifestyle rut that we had attained. We have been rather home bodies, as you all must know by now if you read any of this drivel regularly, for the last several months staying within a ten/twenty mile radius not counting when we have gallivanted off to Venice, Florida that is; where my cousins live?

The best part about going there was that we had not been there in quite some time so it was like all new to us…sort of.
We found ourselves remembering most all of the area except how long it seemed to take to get there.
And we did take the scenic route not the quick to get there route, route 41, the Tamiami Trail with a right onto McGregor/San Carlos all the rest of the way, not I75 exchange.

We finally arrived around eleven-ish or so, but it was difficult to find a parking spot the beachfront lot was completely full, even after we cruised it twice; we still found nothing! And so we went down an intersecting side street and found the metered parking, which was very expensive at a quarter for eight minutes! Hubby installed enough quarters so we were good for about an hour.
He unloaded my scooter and we went over to what is called Times Square, a non vehicle cobblestoned area with restaurants and shops and so we perused the area and felt it was really more for the tourists than not too far away locals, and it was too darn hot, 95 by the time we arrived, but felt like 101.
The heat got us back to our car with 12 minutes to spare, hubby made a joke we should sit here until the time was up; I gave him a dirty look and smiled. We had made additional plans for lunch.
On the way over the bridge my hubby noticed that there was a restaurant called Doc Fords Rum Bar under it at what is called Fisherman’s Warf. Sounds typical for such an area you say, but this one was different since it is directly connected to both of our favorite author, Randy Wayne White!

This is his second restaurant that he has opened in the area the first one was in Sanibel, but this one was on our way home now and we stopped there for lunch.
The menu was named with his characters in his books in mind, clever, and a wee bit unusual.
Hubby had an ordinary choice ordered, cheesesteak and fries, but with an extraordinarily difference in consistency, which he appeared to enjoy tremendously. I was more adventurous and ordered Ceviche Cocktail marinated Grouper Snapper, Bay Scallops and shrimp tossed in lime juice, cilantro, jalapeƱos and tomatoes, very tasty with a side bowl of conch chowder yum, that we did share!
We also shared a slice of key lime pie for our desert!
Now this should hold us until next year!
It was a getaway from the usual, and it went well.

Tomorrow back in the pool for me, and then…who knows what lies ahead these days…

Good night to all and to all be safe and count those blessings and I will too!
