Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo landing on the moon. I bet everyone who was around at that time remembers where they were when that momentous occasion occurred.
I was nineteen and at work at Lord & Taylor’s at that time, it was my summer job, as a floor manager since it was my summer off from LIM. And most likely saw it on the evening news.
For the children to get more information on this historic event may I suggest they go to: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/40th/index.html
Instincts are a very good thing and when you think something is wrong you know darn well that it is more than likely the case, and so when that gut feeling takes over it tells you should act. And so I did I continued to try and call my mother-in-law and my hubby alternated calling as well, we also tried to contact his sister (who lives five miles from his mom) who at one point answered her phone with an uh, and then hung-up! And so we promptly called back and this time got her machine.
She is not in a good marriage and has said at times it is an abusive relationship so what would anyone think in this situation, I ask you?
And so hubby called the local police to first check on the well being of his mother and then when they called back they asked for his sister’s info, and he explained what had happened when we tried calling sis, and so they checked on her too! And found out from our 20 year old niece that her Grandmother, my husband’s mother had indeed been admitted to the hospital yesterday!
And so once the officer received the information of which hospital my hubby called and fortunately found out that even though his 88 year old Mom had been admitted for severe back pain she would be going home tomorrow, and he got to speak directly with her.
But get this a few moments’ ago the sister calls me on my phone yelling that she doesn’t like the police coming to her home asking her questions and that if something was wrong with mom she would have called us! Well, why didn’t she just say that all those times we left messages that she couldn’t find the time to return them!
Talk about dysfunctional, besides my husband is retired law-enforcement and we live in Florida while they both live in Pennsylvania! And protocol is the procedure that he followed due to no other way of finding out! We both agree at 56 sis needs to grow up, big time!
All afternoon long since we returned from the grocery store our fiendish Great White Heron has returned to try to eat our pond fish! We have been sending Skipper out to chase him/her away, but he continues to return moments later. (PS All this has been going on while in the midst of the Mom situation, and dinner too!)
We have added additional Flamingoes to the entrance, our largest metal sculpted one not so tacky one that we affectionately call Pinky is on the bench seat overlooking the pond, and hubby even strung with fishing line another plastic tacky species to a PVC pole, and it moves in the breeze but nothing seems to be working this time! As I write tonight’s entries hubby is installing metal poles with a spider web of fishing line across where the bird tries to eat from as a deterrent.
I believe the problem is that unless a water fowl goes out to sea… shore wise we are not that rich with fish or in our harbor any longer. Some believe it is because of the deuce years of canes back in 2004 and 2005, and others believe our waters are just too warm this time of year so fish swim out to find some relief too!
Good night to you all and count those blessings and I will too!
