Happy Father's Day!

(Hum to the tune of the Beverly Hills Hillbilly’s theme song for this one)

Sit right down my child to listen to a tale, a tale of how Father's or Fathers' Day began.
The info coming down the pike could make you want to jam.
You see my dear offspring it is like this I have read that no one knows for sure how it reached into my head. The knowledge of the celebration really is not lore; the one thing that I know for fact is that there is quite a bit more.

You see that we are possibly into a century of having us determine that we cared enough for he; Fathers that is. To set aside just one special day to let them know we care no matter what or who your daddy is or the color of his hair. The story goes that many mothers felt that it was unfair to have only a Mother’s Day and nothing for him here. So they asked the powers that be to give them one day that was free…. To tell the man who we love that they are as good as any Mother’s Day for me!

And so we have a Father’s or Fathers’ Day celebrated today in 52 countries! For more and actual information you can go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father's_Day

Upward and onward, this day is not once what it was, since both our dads have passed away, and our sons are far away, but it is time to remember those past times of happiness of our special days with them.

As I huddle in my air-conditioned home today due to another day of ungodly temperatures, and as I watch the news and other forms of squawk-box entertainment I am amazed at the rain and cool temperatures that I see in our northern area that we so long ago called home. What I do remember is that even up there by the first day of summer, which is today also…So happy first day of summer everybody, longest day of the year, Summer Solstice, any-who that it was usually much warmer, and I lived there for thirty-six years, exactly twice as long as I have been living here! But of course you have heard the want-a-be meteorologist in me report this oddity before, and not that long ago if I recall.

As you may know we watch golf occasionally here, in this southern exposure place with the most golf courses and lightening in the country; odd how those two seem to un-relentlessly collide at times. Well, our adopted son, Tiger is playing in the ‘Open’, in Farmingdale NY, and not doing his usual superb, but he is catching up, and the weather there has been just dreadful, rain-wise. And we caught them complaining about the heat, not him, but someone, he never does complain, and I checked and it is only in the seventies! If it were in the seventies here we would all be getting out the woolies! I had to laugh! They forgot what warm is I suppose.

On that cheerful note I wish you all a good night, and a Happy Fathers Day, and a happy first day of summer, and don’t forget to count all those blessings and I will too!
