Planning a social event in the mini size...

How many of you have had to plan a dinner for incoming guests for an evening?
Well, for years as a young wife and mother I used to do it quite often and enjoyed every moment of it. Even on one just such occasion we had over sixty guests, but it was a backyard barbeque in our rather large home on over a half acre of land.
But that was when I was young, gosh I was about thirty-four and healthy!
In those days even when the holidays came around I always took Thanksgiving, my mother-in-law took one as did my sister-in law and we would have about twenty-five to thirty guests all family.
Everyone pitched in and it was wonderful; not rushed very much, relaxed and enjoyable.

At this age and lack of ability we still enjoy having company, but of course we have realized that scaling down is helpful, and this coming Saturday night we have invited just four guests that should be just right for us to manage.
The menu will be delish and simple: barbeques ribs and blackened Tilapia for those who don’t care for ribs, the sides will be sweet potatoes and cole slaw, and dessert will be a banana sour cream pound cake, mmm I can taste it all now.
Of course we will have a little smattering of chips and dips, popcorn, and three different cheeses with crackers while we wait.
Beverages will be simple too soda, wine and beer.
All in all I think it will be just right.

My only concern is the entertainment portion, we do have music a few CDS and a radio, and if anyone cares to we do have cards or we could play charades? Actually I think that would be fun.

My male cousin who is also invited is a magician and perhaps we could ask him to do a few tricks, but I don’t presume that I should take advantage of that.
Aw heck…
But with not too much prodding he is always willing to oblige and so maybe I will.

So far I have heard back from my neighbors across the canal and I am still waiting on my cousins a couple of cities over, about a half hour from here.

We are the youngins in the group; they are all in their sixties while we are just brushing barely the end of our fifties.
They all seem to be quite social and active in spite of their advancing ages, ha!
Isn’t the age of sixty like the new forty?
And fifty is supposed to be like thirty was and so forth…
Gosh I missed that boat, but none of our guests have.
In spite of the usual what ails you they all look remarkably well for their advancing ages; almost too good.
Nah, you can never ever look too good at any age!

Happy relationships maybe, we have all been married forever by today’s standards.
Let’s face it we all have our moments of not agreeing with our spouses, but the only way you would constantly agree is if you had one brain, and none of us have that!
Thank heavens! We all are individual thinkers with magnificent brains of our very own; I suppose that is one of the reasons I like these people.
They have something to offer into any conversation, they are interesting.

And so just talking to one another may be just enough entertainment wise?
We will see…playing by ear does occasionally work.
I am really looking forward to this auspicious occasion.
Here I go again making my own happy…times!

Good night to all and to all count those blessings and I will too.
