We have the distinction of being one of the ...

Southwest Florida, namely Lee County just south of here, has one of the highest unemployment numbers in the country, which is just over 10%.
And they also have the dishonor of having one of the most foreclosure rates in the US too, Lehigh, which is an unincorporated area east of Fort Myers has that claim to infamous. Consequently, that is where our new President Obama will be visiting on Tuesday.

Being distinctive is something that all states strive for, but these negative statistics are not helpful.
Honesty is wonderful and we should always try to be upfront and open and truthful, but we must tell the rest of the country and world about our attributes even more so now than ever before.
We need people of all interests and abilities to relocate here, as well as a continuing tourist base.
What would be wonderful is to have companies that could provide jobs and then we would have an influx of newcomers to our shores. Just think what we have to offer them on their days off, living here in paradise.

We retirees have no difficulties with the lack of jobs here, but in order to encourage a younger demographic we must have jobs for them to come to, and to create a base of needs for our stores that have closed to reopen.
And I too believe it must start with the obvious of shoring up our infrastructure which is in dire need of repairs.
That alone could keep many employed for years and years to come.
Our local bridges and roadways need to be cared for yesterday.
Not unlike the rest of our country we must have an open mind about how the new jobs get done.
Retraining people from other fields is another job creation for those instructors, one position will make way for another, and another and so on.

I do understand that the medical field is wide open for needing people, and that is an area near and dear to me being on the receiving end.
Hopefully with the advent of more people in all aspects of those careers we will have something to be modeled after and useful for all in reciprocal need.
All any of this takes is imagination without limits.
We as a nation are only rationed by our own negativity of not pushing ourselves to our full potential.
Just like an infant whose new motherhood has fears of allowing the growth of that child to expand by exploring his or hers surroundings, with concern for well being, but not realizing that allowing the adventurousness is part of the developmental process has a positive for expansion of ones learning curve, and more times than not causes intellect to surpass others of the same age.
Letting go of old ways of doing things is what we as a nation have got to learn to do, because it simply just didn’t work.

I do realize how scary and unsure these next few years will be, but as a country we are still taking baby-steps compared to the rest of the world.
We have come so far, but in recent years have backslidden, and we must regain our turf and be brave and try new and different ways to accomplish what we need to do to regain our footing.
And I truly believe we as a united front will be able to do it!

And so good night to all and to all have an open heart and mind and we will be strong and whole again as one nation and one world.
