This is the beginning of what many Americans call the last weekend of the summer.
But we all know that fall doesn't actually start yet here in this hemisphere for about three weeks.

United States In the United States, Labor Day is a federal
holiday observed on the first Monday of September. It is customarily viewed
as the end of the summer
vacation season.[7] Many
schools open for the year on the day after Labor Day.[8] The
holiday is shared with Canada, where it is known as Labour Day.

so we are not alone here in the USA,
maybe on our chosen date, but not on the fact we honor our laborers by giving
them a time to enjoy the fruits of their labor!
