Rainy day project...

Yesterday, is when we stopped at Home Depot for other household items, but my desire to continue my hall of mirrors could still be a project for the future as I thought... Although, my search for mirrors at thrift stores and other similar places had hit a dead end.And I really thought I would not be able to complete my crazy, but interesting concept of making such an idea come to fruition. Alas, the helpful folks at Home Depot knew exactly what I was after and sent me in the right direction in their massive warehouse store and voila Martha Stewart had a small collection priced within one's means, mine that is and yours too I am more than sure, at only, would you believe for just $14.96 for all five mirrors of different sizes, one 11", two 9", and two at 7".

The easiest to do was going to be my shell mirror, since we have seashells in containers from the good ole days, translation, when we used to go shelling when out on the boat down on the islands, and they are all over the house in glass containers, bowls and the like..., so one 9" was designated for that, and one 9" would be designated for a porthole look, and the 11" I had in my mind to make one of those natural rope hanging mirrors that I saw  too that have become popular. And so once my ideas were imbedded in my brain my accomplishing the how to do them would not be as difficult as one might think... really! The two smaller ones, 7", will ensconce the oval mirror on the opposite wall, still thinking on their destiny...

Hot glue and its gun are wonder drugs for all of us crafters, except for someone like me whose use is rather dangerous; although, I have been using the stuff on and off for heaven knows how long, many decades at least, and in spite of that still burns herself and gets messy like a little kid! Well, not most kids today I am more than sure, they are much more careful and coordinated than yours truly here.

Any-who, it worked great for the shells, and I knew they would stick just fine, since I have a wreath outside I did with oyster shells shortly after we moved into this house nearly sixteen years ago and the shells are all accounted for out there still! The rope, I am sorry to say had to be bought at the depot too, but not too bad for fifty feet, more than we needed at just less than six bucks. We didn't have quite the right type at home; today most are nylon that are used for ship's lines these days. To get the look of a porthole we did have gold spray paint for the effect of brass and I thought that wooden plugs with their divots removed, sawed off, would serve well as rivets once sprayed with the rest of the frame. Both jobs for Hubby.
Slight problem with this last one, when Hubby went to take the back off to remove the mirror first, the mirror cracked! So until we find another one I had Hubby take a picture of our mural in the dinette to cut out on printed card stock to insert in there temporarily, he felt awful about it, but what can one do? It was an accident. I figure a mirror tile could do the trick if Home Depot can cut us another circular one when we get over there...

The wall is complete on that side, also as you can easily see included in this nautical wall is my Cultural Center thrift store find, the ship's wheel, for twenty-five bucks, while the Shell Factory had tiny ones like it for about ninety!

On that note of an idea for another rainy day, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you all to kindly count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!

PS Rain stopped me from going into the swimming pool today, oh poo! Tomorrow's another day, hooray!
