Heard from someone that I hadn't heard from in a long, long time...

My cousin called that is only about two and half years older than me and while we were growing up we never had much in common, sadly.
She was a dead ringer for Farrah Fawcett and I was more like a Patti Duke.
And always was an extremely beautiful natural blonde, due to her Mom being Scandinavian, a beauty queen. I had decided at the mellow age of fifteen to join the ranks of blondness artificially of course, since my Mom was auburn and looked not dissimilar to Anne of Green Gables who she played in high school.
Her sister is a couple years younger than me, also my cousin, and I had a half brother nineteen years older than me, her cousin too.
When she had her children they were one of each, a boy and girl and ours were both boys.

You see, she was beautiful and a college grad that chose to work for United Airlines as stewardess, in those days, is what flight attendants were called. And they had asked her to do their commercials but she was too shy and declined way back in the 1970's.

So our lives never really did intersect, until...
At the age of twenty-seven my Cuz was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, but continued to work for ten years after and she lived in another state.
And so over the years we still didn't have much contact living far from each other in different states and all...
But then in 2006 when I was diagnosed with coincidentally the same horrible malady, Multiple Sclerosis, I felt it would be ridiculous to just call for that like my local cousins had suggested, ya know what I mean...?

But time passes and we get older and wiser and any excuses talking to family for whatever reason somehow always makes weird sense, ya know?

So we did.
Her Dad had passed away a couple of years before, my Mom's youngest sibling, she being the eldest of the five. Most recently, my cousin's Mom passed away; the last of the aunts and uncles on my Mom's side and the youngest of them all...but still in her late eighties I do believe, maybe ninety something.(that generation never discussed age).
Over the last few years since her Mom had died I did try calling her a few times and one of her adult children would answers saying that she was not well and would call me back, but didn't.
After a while I gave up, as we all do.

So today when SHE called me, a few years later, I was thrilled to hear from her.
Her beautiful daughter who looks like she had and who had married a couple of years ago is a expecting a baby boy this July 4th! Right close to my birthday!
She was over the moon to say the least and I could feel that joy/elation through the phone; it was nearly tangible.
Sure we compared notes on our ills and meds etc...but the new baby was at the forefront!
We both have our grandmas’ name in ours, hers as middle and mine as a first.
Yes, me, the Madame Interferer, suggested naming the grandchild for her parents, but she said that her daughter and her husband already had a named all picked out, which happened to be the same name as my second eldest nephew's and a fine name too....
I shut-up.

We hung up and swore to keep in contact MORE often, me being the next to call her.
Oh I almost forgot we both have our love of animals in common too.
But her doggy and mine were the best we acted like we argued that point, but all in good fun.
She still has three cats beside, but we just have our one and only Skipper our very best!

On all those notes, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and we will too!

And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
