Weather!
Sadly when we get rain, we get more than our normal share;
inches fall hourly.
People are shut into their homes in our county, of Charlotte, while in Punta
Gorda due to being surrounded by water and not having waterfront property! But
we have not had that problem fortunately, here in Port Charlotte, where we live on our saltwater
canal, on the Elkam waterway, five minutes from Charlotte Harbor
by our boat, ironically.
You see, we have city sewer systems and drains that are
maintained as long as lawn grass clippings don’t clog them up; our street is
free and clear of rain flow!
And yes, fresh rain water merges with our saltwater in those
canals, but what else can it do?
I know those who are upset with the fresh water being sent
down the Caloosehatchee River in Fort Myers to prevent the overflow of Lake
Okeechobee drowning out the residents and residences, more than 35K strong…with
flooding there, seem not to recall all these heavy rain storms that we have, in
this our rainy season, from June first until November 30th, each and
every year! Barring hurricanes we get this type of rain without realizing it
half the time, when spread out over the many months, that is unless it causes
havoc like it is in some of the further south counties here in southwest
Florida!
And in Punta Gorda, but sadly
it always floods there with heavy rain due to the runoff drains not being right
for years!
The problem though, I must admit is the more than usual
rain, inches more, in some areas more than twenty inches than usual, nothing to
make light of…
But at least no HURRICANES; so far! Shush self, the turmoil
gods may be reading/listening to this…
The question is what difference does it make with heavy rain
causing the turmoil in the Gulf or the release of fresh water from Lake O?
It always seems to recover.
Maybe I’m just not getting it; I suppose it is the magnitude
and force of the streaming of the fresh water?
This just in:
east of I75 the flooding is going into homes in Charlotte and Lee counties!
(The news is on in the other room)
That’s farm country, and what happens is too much rain for
crops is just as bad as too little, for veggies including fruit trees, even
flowers, it drowns them; got that?
And the farm animals have no dry land to stand on and are in
danger of drowning or being harmed by water moccasins, fish, alive and dead,
and floating garbage and sewage from those who still have septic tanks, yep
friends, not a pretty picture!
Children have to be kept out of the filthy water, no wading
in puddles, too dangerous!
I understand they can’t even flush their toilets due to the
high water levels backing up their septic tanks.
We are under a flood warning; have been all day… but
thankfully even with a very low elevation, of nine feet, unless there is a
Tsunami or storm surge warning, we stay, the water does recede according to the
tides. After all, it has the entire harbor and Gulf of
Mexico to empty into. Of course we have always have had to and
still do have flood insurance to go along with hurricane and fire and theft and
sinkhole. And so if we see it is coming up to our home due to too much rain it will be more than likely
in the front of our home and due to clogged drains! But nothing so far!
Sorry for the nasty picture I am painting of our beautiful
paradise, hmm?
Well, thankfully all this rain will be gone by the weekend,
we are told, slightly diminishing each day, as it heads towards Saturday and it
sure keeps our lawns green!
Odd, unless the water is moving swiftly, the lawns only do
better with the extra wetness and grow very fast, much to Hubby’s chagrin.
An interesting fact, a localism that I heard years ago here…
“The best part of the weather in Florida
is that if you’re not happy with it now, wait a while and it will turn into
something you like better!” On that snippet of a glance into our day’s weather,
allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and
ask you to kindly count all your blessings and share all those overages with
you know who and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear!
My personal update: I am doing better with pain twinges
further apart, a part of what I don’t know! Bud, dump bum!
