Mayer Weiner!
Kidding tonight is the 85th Academy Awards presentation.
But for some reason they, in Hollywood, oops now I get it they are all obsessed with age out there, that is hiding they’re actual… Well, they have decided to drop the year reference and shortened the name of this gargantuan ageless momentous occasion, that doesn’t look a day past thirty-nine and that, was for them my dear friends… The Oscars!
Sure they are…the awards name is just a formality, no other awards show is named for the ones who decide their fate anyway, oh wait… The People’s Choice Awards, but no, the Grammy’s isn’t, neither is the Country Music Awards, racing, or golf, or the super bowel, etc.; no I am good and so are they! Tell me if I forgot any later, I am more than sure that I have.
The history of why and when the whole shebang started is part of the industries illustrious history; now that’s odd the word ‘illusion’ is a form of the word illustrious, hmm? If it wasn’t for what I wrote last night I wouldn’t be so alerted, coincidence I think not, my naughty slick way of preparing for tonight! Nah, but wouldn’t it be great if I had so much forethought? But if you recall what ‘illusion’ means it is definitely the appropriate word ‘illustrious’ to describe Hollywood’s history, hmm?
Now back to the informative part of this program, oh wait it is just my humble blog…: “The first awards were presented on May 16, 1929, at a private brunch at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with an audience of about 270 people. The post Academy Awards party was held at the Mayfair Hotel. The cost of guest tickets for that night's ceremony was $5. Fifteen statuettes were awarded, honoring artists, directors and other personalities of the filmmaking industry of the time for their works during the 1927–1928 period.
Winners had been announced three months earlier; however, that was changed in the second ceremony of the Academy Awards in 1930. Since then and during the first decade, the results were given to newspapers for publication at 11 pm on the night of the awards. This method was used until the Los Angeles Times announced the winners before the ceremony began; as a result, the Academy has since 1941 used a sealed envelope to reveal the name of the winners.” Thanks to this site in a crunch and for more info copy and paste it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_award
We outsiders of the industry and yes it is an industry/business not just a whole bunch of artists getting together to have fun. Although, that is what many do or did… controversy has it gone either way on any given day?
Hundred of movies and their actors have been nominated as well directors and screenplay writers, musical scores’ composers; you name it you work in the industry you may be named tonight! That is if you were considered great or good enough, maybe okay not that bad really in whatever field that justifies you having a SAG-AFTRA card or any other gadgetry that proves you belong to the much revered groups of people that the world loves to love, hate, cry with or stalk, wait that’s not right… but you get the idea and it is all starting here on the east coast of these fine United States of America in a little less than a half an hour at seven P.M. EST with the red carpet arrivals interviews!
So, I suppose you will understand when I say adios, hmm?
ADIOS!
On that note of some note, allow me to be the very first to wish all of you a very happy good night and ask you kindly to count those ballots oh wait, thank heavens its not being held here in FLORIDA, they would be still counting till the next awards show… KIDDING!
Count those blessings and share them with everybody!
Hope whomever you voted for wins, oh wait we don’t get a vote… DAMN but its not being held here in Florida?
While I get as many laughs as I can milk from my own self deprecating feelings of inadequacies being a transplant from NJ where the movie industry really began in the Palisades…
Next time please be here or be square, ya hear?!
