You betcha!
Nightly we have been bombarded with the reality of what some ignoramuses called hype and blown out of proportion weather system sweetly referred to as, ‘Hurricane Irene’!
Lovely gal once long ago now a tremendous pain in all the innocent victims’ rear ends, lives, properties and you name it, and all their lost memorable possessions!
Sadly, not only did many of these people not have insurance in the form of the flood type, which we are required here to maintain where we are, but to be fair we do live on a saltwater canal… and they don’t. Many live in landlocked areas such as the folks in Vermont. And some live in areas that have had nothing like this happen in over a century, so why bother paying for something that you may never ever use, huh?
And to add insult to injury, FEMA needs a rain check; pun intended, on paying out the claims since their bottom line is now at 800 million with the horrendous year we have been having and so far a few states claims have been over a billion in losses and needs from the Feds!
Gosh talk about timing!
Why we never ever know when these awkward weather disasters are going to happen or we would have all planned better, hmm?
Now is the time for the Americans to realize we need each other to survive, since our version of ‘Big Brother’ is not copping to the job at hand since monies have not been previously used wisely in many of our tiny minds who seemed to have life always so honky dory and never ever have any difficulties in life and so they cannot understand when money might be tight or that not all future problems can be planned for?
It takes a village of co-operation and sweat equity, boy are they words to live by these days, huh?
Volunteerism is where the biggest efforts should be placed front and center stage, right?
Monies too will be a BIG Necessity in enabling rebuilding and buying what is needed to make lives whole once again…
Giant concepts of Habits for Humanity in multitudes!
As well as engineers with the know-how to replace roadways, bridges and frameworks of cities and towns… our infrastructures need to be seen-to. Now where did I hear that before? Why the whole idea might even create future jobs? Geez that sounds familiar too… I know I heard that somewhere before…hmm… if I could only remember…
I do believe it was in a campaign speech or some such thing, but I could be wrong since I have been wrong before, but who knows… any-who…
Better late than NEVER, we need to put folks back to work and trying to be one who does try to make lemonade out of lemons this could be the vehicle for just that… what you ask?
WHY JOBS MY FRIENDS!
Once the shock of the devastation has passed, which will take forever but can be tamed with purpose of life with the need to be productive and have control once again… your lives will be whole and renewed with the reality of accomplishment of tangibility!
On that note of HOPE please folks we have been there and so I speak from experience do not give up, life will eventually get better since it cannot get any worse!
Allow me to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly count those blessings and share those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
PS And also know one thing and that is that we all care and are here for you!
Speaking My Mind is about: Tobi, who is a middle aged, no, oh all right a slightly over the hill woman with all the imperfections that go with that, and this concerns her daily life's perceptions and experiences.

Today I would like to go slightly off topic and...
Discuss something other than devastation, OK?
Besides it's not like talking about it is going to change any of it, is it?
Neither will wishing it away.
Today we had a gentle rain on and off all day.
Which was conducive to contemplating …oh I don’t know… the meaning of life?
Nah, nothing that deep for this wee brain, but thoughts still manage to go through it daily, heaven knows what though…bud dump bum…!
I must admit that today was a bit of a goof off day I did do a load of wash and dried it too…boy that sounds hard, but not really, we have a washing machine and clothes dryer right in our laundry room! HA!
I did prepare my own breakfast and so did Hubby but we cheat on occasion and both had Carnation’s Instant breakfast in chocolate of course, but in mine I emulsified a half of banana… simplicity at its best and healthy too since it was made with fat free milk and was the sugar free variety!
Lunch was left over chicken which also was a do it yourself sort of meal, Hubby had made an open faced sandwich with the homemade gravy I had made when the raw chicken became a whole baked one a couple of days ago.
Have you ever read how much sodium is in cream of mushroom soup?
Well, we had bought mushrooms in the produced department and with the sodium free bouillon, a bit of extra virgin olive oil, and a smidge of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Margarine light, a pinch of fat free sour cream, garlic and onions thickened with a wee bit of flour it all came together with a dash of sea salt and pepper too! Healthy gravy, lower in fat and sodium, Ta Da!
Yesterday, I added yolk free noodles with additional bouillon to half of the left over gravy with carrots, mushrooms and more onions and garlic chopped chicken pieces with more water to make homemade chicken noodle soup!
Any-who, my chicken chopped up I used in soft taco roll ups with additional veggies and hot sauce and fat free sour cream, hmm so good…
Dinner was made together by us; with grilled salmon with green goddess homemade dressing: recipe: fat free sour cream, light mayo, apple cider vinegar, tarragon, chives and scallions, also rosemary potatoes: recipe: tossed in rosemary, olive oil and garlic powder and salad romaine and tomatoes and mushrooms with more homemade dressing: balsamic and extra virgin olive oil with sugar substitute, garlic powder and basil.
All healthy and quite delish!
I know this might not be what you were all that interested in but as we all know no matter what happens in life to us or ones we care about…life will always go on…
So when we harp on things that we cannot change than we are not helping the situation…volunteering and donating is how to help…but when neither is possible…
Help others by informing is my hope to do some good…
Although the Red Cross has said ten dollars can help and I am more than sure that if you want to ask them what else that they need they will tell you!
On that idea as a possibility allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you all to count those blessings and to kindly share all your overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Pure wetness without ulterior motives is rather nice...
Gosh that could sound slightly seductive or a wee bit sexy, but no it is a weather commentary…ha!
We are having a bit of rain here with no motives of destruction with its presence.
Refreshing as it should be; without any wrath.
Sorry, that it is not what I understand is still going on in the northeastern realm of our country.
Too much wet stuff is still causing negative and unnecessary roughness and way too much water in the form of flooding!
Sadly, the death toll has risen much to all our dismays. The most recent count was up to thirty who died before their time in their prime. They’re still five million without power and ten thousand flights had been cancelled and most airports have not gotten back up to speed with rescheduling as of this writing.
The only good that I have heard come from our northern brethren is that the heat wave has seemed to abate somewhat and without power at least now many can open their windows with temps in the sixties and seventies?
My younger cousin wrote on my Facebook page that although she is living in Brooklyn NY logistically it is impossible to get into Manhattan NYC to go to work with the subways not online yet and that her boss was not at all sympathetic and did open today even so. And so albeit not a matter of life and death but to be sure an economic concern that is more than likely shared by millions who did not suffer the extremes of the storm’s devastation…but need to make a living too!
Bits and pieces are coming in slowly of personal experiences.
Many know a person in the areas impacted by all that has/is still happening.
Small anecdotal snippets I am sure will be fascinating as time goes on over the next several days or weeks to us to relay to get a more up close and personal idea of what is going on…
Trivia for any of you, who might live under a rock, today was the sixth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina!
It appears while looking back that the most destructive hurricanes in our recent history of late anyway did occur in August Andrew, Charley, and Katrina all devastating August hurricanes. And now by size alone, Irene, may very well go down into the history books too.
Daily we tell ourselves to be prepared in life for whatever we get thrown in life, but in truth we all procrastinate a little, don’t we?
Truth be told millions of us were scouts as children and we all memorized that motto to be prepared, but as adults many of us have forgotten and now we know that we should have remembered and swear that next time we will!
It does appear that many who did listen to the authorities in the long run are happy that they did. Being safe instead of sorry in these many cases have proven to be logical and cautious, although the ones with no evidence of their own problems will never realize how important that others heeding the advice was for them!
On that note of it could have been so much worse if people did not listen allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly count those blessings and pray for all those in the flood raging areas still dealing with the aftermath and share those overages of blessings because they really need you to… and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

People's perspective on the hurricane now downgraded to a tropical storm...
ANGER!
They’re people who are calling it all hype and that it was a dud!
For you idiots, go ahead, I will wait when you tell that to the 18 dead people’s families! More still may come…but I truly hope not! No one knows yet, with all the flooding…
The flooding is still going on, but perhaps not in your neighborhood, do you have power?
Nearly four millions still do not! Oh that’s right you would know this if you had by maybe ….watching the news!
The subways and other trains in the greater metropolitan area will not be running tomorrow not because it was a mistake to stop the New York transit from running but it will take days to clear the tracks of downed trees and wires and mudslides covering the above ground tracks!
Flash floods are still going on in New England, and still more are expected up and down the coastline all the way till Tuesday, not to mention all the tornadoes being spun off from the not too powerful storm that in your small minds was ‘a dud’! Destroying homes and infrastructures all over the coast line and its interior!
Funny how déjà vu this is for when we were hit so violently by Hurricane Charley a category 4 way back on August 13.2004, a Friday, people less than twenty miles away that were fortunate to not get a hit direct or otherwise, also said that it was NOT so bad!
I beg to differ with all these naysayers! You’re full of SH-T!
It goes back to the hearing of the tree falling in the forest concept; if you do not hear it did it actually happen. That was rhetorical, if all you smarty pants even know what that means!
If anyone has posted that crap, the dud too much hype baloney, on my Facebook page I have closed it in disgust, now I ask you; wouldn’t you?
Why so many people who at first seemed mildly intelligent are proven later on to be complete idiots!
Just in: the dud of a weather system that did not cause too much devastation only so far has caused an estimated SEVEN BILLION in damages, and true not as bad as first thought of, but this is just a preliminary estimate!
Gosh I am seething!
I am posting late tonight due to my concern and interest about all those people IN HARMS WAY and most I do not know, but I still care.
Another person local, in Fort Myers Florida actually said heartlessly in my book, that “if his sister were not still living up there he wouldn’t care”, what?
I am so disappointed in people with that way of thinking.
Sad doesn’t seem to cover it.
If nothing else this year with all the outlandish weather happenings, from earthquakes, tornadoes, Tsunamis, you would think that compassion would be more than abundant not less…
Oh well, Pollyanna here hoping that my Dad was right these people who think so negatively and only for themselves in this world that daily becomes smaller, are in the minimum and the majority are the good caring loving people who want to know one thing…now what can we do to make this all better?
On that high note of trying hard to utilize my Dad’s mindset once again allow me to wish you all a very happy, safe night and to count those blessings and share those overages and we will too!

Pirate Fest! A small distraction...
Yes, we went out today to get away from the computer and TV and have a bit of fun.
And much to our surprise, we did.
After our lunch we went over to Fishville AKA Fisherman’s Village in River City AKA Punta Gorda for their third annual Pirate Fest.
It was much better than previous years it appears they had a splurge of ideas and finances since many pirates attended the festivities as well as vendors and rides and on and on, etc…
And so although we ate lunch at home and due to the tremendous turnout where we had to park was way across the street in order to find a handicap space to have room for Hubby to take out my scooter. We spent a good two hours going through the quarter mile covered venue and all there was to see.
All I can say is that there were many vendors spread throughout the facility that were selling pirate related items from costuming to monogrammed items with the scull and crossbones, what-have-you; and also unrelated items from candles to cologne.
Entertainment consisted of cannons ready to be shot off with so-called real pirates telling their history and young women dressed too as pirates singing and dancing.
The whole thing started yesterday and will go on tomorrow from eleven A.M. to six P.M.
Much better than last year's offering I must admit and quite a nice surprise!
Sorry to hear when we arrived home that the hurricane had caused two deaths in North Carolina, one, a man, who went out during the storm who was hit with a tree limb and crushed and another, a women, killed in a car accident due to the traffic light being out since the area had lost power.
As Hurricane Irene goes up the coast she has maintained her cat1 status that she went down to this morning.
Many are losing power and trees are down as well as streets being flooded over, nothing has changed warning wise for the east coast.
All warnings have remained the same and over two million have been evacuated.
At the time of this writing she has moved slowly up the coast line towards the northeast, while now in Virginia.
New York’s transportation, subways and airports have been closed down since noon today.
Stores there too have boarded up and closed as well…
Many tourists appear to be clueless, a women in Manhattan for a tennis match said that “it is not good since she has no idea where she will be able to have breakfast before her match”? What? How can so many be in the dark?
And not know why the shops are closed?
Another was concerned because her flight was cancelled and worried about her job, I do believe even the nastiest of bosses would understand this!
CRAZY!
Any-who, on that note of not believing how people still do not know what is going on…
Allow me to ask you all in Irene’s path to be safe and do what your local authorities say for you to do, and try and have a very happy good night and count those blessings and kindly share those overages and we will too!

Irene, Irene, Irene, I feel sorry for those Irenes out there!
Of course it is important to know what is going on and we all want everyone to be safe, but…I think the time has come to change the concept of naming hurricanes for people!
Go with me here… each name used for a major storm brings with it extremely negative connotations and thoughts from then on when heard or referenced, hmm?
I don’t recall where the concept came from but I truly think the time has come to give them more descriptive names of their actual content of destructive abilities, what do you think?
People names are so personal and storms should not be, since they become nemesis immediately when discovered for their quantitative divisiveness.
‘Tropical storms’ are more ambiguous and simplistic than its more powerful cousin ‘Hurricane’.
Adjectives, adverbs, and verbs are free so I have been told and don’t seem to have any feelings. And so, I now declare that to be a much better way to call these weather systems that expound lethal and devastating destruction on life and limbs as well as properties should be tumultuous whirling dervishes of mighty capacities or any similar description that works! TA DA!
Now that that’s cleared up…
Moving on…
Thankfully, people who are in the direction of the cane are listening and taking heed of what all the authorities are telling them.
Very few are being foolish.
Some interviewed are of the ilk of wanting to ride the storm out!
All I have for you are a few words …WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY?
These were people in direct alignment with the hurricane’s point of entry as a CAT 2, true only around 100 mph winds but dangerous just the same.
Not that I know anything only being a person who helped after Hurricane Andrew, a Category 5, circa 1992 and being a survivor of Hurricane Charley a Category 4, circa 2004, but I love people and I would HATE to know due to stupidity that they died!
Gosh, you could have some lethal disease and die or be very old and die, but due to stupidity, DON’T DIE! Most fight to live, and that’s why I just don’t get it…sorry!
Geez that felt good to get out into the air…whew!
The explosive possibilities of what may happen have most newsy type programming keeping us well informed, not to mention all the weather channels on the TV and Internet as well.
Many online are interactive or even have weather windows with live action films of how the weather is changing.
What a world we live in with instant everything at our fingertips and that means no excuses to be as safe as you can be!
Tonight is the last night of sort of still calm waters in many areas in the encompassing target areas, be well and happy and save your families not your things remember they are replaceable, YOU ARE NOT!
On that loving warning… allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you kindly to count all your blessings and to share all your overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Anticipation, preparation or perhaps evacuation...
Lock ‘em up, move ‘em out or stay put… a plea post…
Up and down our eastern coast of America authorities and meteorologists are keeping track of Hurricane Irene.
Landfall can be expected in several areas: from the Mid-Atlantic States on northward.
The category of Hurricane Irene may be a 3, 2, or 1, either way batten down your hatches and evacuate or listen carefully to what you are told and pray!
Tonight I am experiencing a bit of my own tumultuous weathering of my bodily storming.
With mild chest pains, chilling body and higher than normal glucose levels 143, but not in the danger zone, let me explain… My chest pains appear to diminish on rest, but I have been more dizzy than usual, but gosh you know us blondes, hmm?
Any-who… Hubby took my blood pressure and it was good at my low normal, 100/58 and my pulse was like 78 and so that was all in the normal range and as well as my cool body temp of 98.1 and so what. What’s all the bother about, huh?
I do think that listening to the news affects me like everyone else, you would have to be heartless not to be, and so I am sincerely concerned for what this hurricane might do.
It’s true we are physically in the clear, but how can anyone not be worried for all those who will be impacted.
Seriously our hearts and prayers are with you/them all!
Heavy rains and trees will be going down and people will be without power, in this heat!
I am crying inside for them all…
When will it all stop?
These horrendous weather systems and wars and murderous people and on and on and on and on…
Frightening is all I can say and to maintain some form of sanity we must observe some types of positive distractions when not in harms way… otherwise, listen, prepare and do what the knowledgeable have told you to do for they should have the know-how to keep you all safe!
Remember Katrina!
Evacuate if told to and even if not go where the storm will not be, please!
I love all of you!
Tomorrow and the rest of the weekend seem to be when the storm will be making its detestable moves on life and limb and so beware!
Take care…
That’s all for tonight’s blog and I hope when we meet next time we will be told that Hurricane Irene went out to sea and did not harm anyone!
If not I do hope that whatever reports come in from the target zones of impact will be lesser than feared!
Allow me to wish you all a very good night and to ask you to kindly count those blessings and to share those overages and we will too!
And next time I will expect you here or be square, ya hear?
Up and down our eastern coast of America authorities and meteorologists are keeping track of Hurricane Irene.
Landfall can be expected in several areas: from the Mid-Atlantic States on northward.
The category of Hurricane Irene may be a 3, 2, or 1, either way batten down your hatches and evacuate or listen carefully to what you are told and pray!

Finding Cures!
Incredible news this evening it looks as if they may have found the cause of ALS, Lou Gherig’s Disease! “Moving Pictures Inc. directs more funds to neurological research as a new study from Northwestern University identifying common cause of ALS provides a target for drug therapy, opening the field to possible treatment for neurogenerative diseases characterized by irregular protein accumulation, like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.” Could this mean Multiple Sclerosis may be close behind?
We can only hope…
And I bet you were worried… see don’t worry, be happy!
The worse things get the more we have to take the bits and pieces of good we hear about and make them more important than all the rest!
Good thing that I had a negative reaction to that medication Celexa it made the news tonight as not being an appropriate mix with blood pressure and heart issues, uh oh!
Sometimes I wonder if my doctors look at the medication lists I print out for them!
No wonder it affected me so miserably and mine was the lower dose of on 20 mg, the 40 mg. is supposed to be the more dangerous dose. If I recall it made me so nauseas and dizzier than my Ataxia did and so I found myself having to lie down in bed for quite some time and this was only after three days of taking the prescribed dosage by my neurologist!
Folks we have to be our own advocates and when in doubt, ask the pharmacists since they have immediate access to that information about drug interaction or conflicting or market recall etc. and always listen on the news or when the FDA has taken something off the market. I had an incident with stomach medication a few years ago that was recalled due to it causing heart attacks and strokes and I heard it on the news thankfully!
Because my gastroenterologists office called about a week later to tell me, but oddly enough my GP had given me the prescription initially and the tummy doctor knew. Guess what? I never heard a word from the GP who actually prescribed it! Consequently I no longer go to that doctor.
To be honest medication and I have a long history of NOT getting along and that’s why I truly hate being on all the crap that I am now. Being nearly killed by nurse injected meds while in traction for a neck and back injury, in the hospital, gives a person very bad memories that last a lifetime! And that was way back in 1983!
Dad, up there in heaven didn’t approve of me using that word hate, but this isn’t of a person its inanimate objects with the power to cure or kill!
Wow, is that profound or what, I ask you?
All I am saying since my major incident way back when and all the other near misses I recall and an elderly neighbor who got so confused with all her medications that she took them all at once and ended up killing her self, so buyer beware and diligent to ask questions too!
On that note of me goofing up on my own knowing what to do but not doing it…Allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and ask you to kindly count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Debby Downer, earthquake where it's not usual, whew for us with Hurricane Irene but watch out Mid-Atlantic States
If complaining was considered an art form I would be considered quite an artist!
Today the ear I chose to speak my mind to was the national Multiple Sclerosis Association.
You see they have people who are there to care, really; at least they act like it.
I told my obviously caring person that I was fed up with all this medication and I was considering to ‘go-commando’, that is: in my way of thinking not undie-less, but stop taking it all!
I don’t like the way I don’t feel all that better and that I look just dreadful.
When I look in the mirror my skin is so dry from not being able to go out in the humidity and heat and so I appear a bit like a pasty reptilian in the face. I am so miserable about commercials and news segments too. The elderly are going berserk!
Women older than me, in their seventies are going in for boob jobs and nip and tucks since they feel well enough to make those things their only misery of priorities!
AARP, I quit again since they only seem to cater too the over fifty year olds who are healthy enough to jog, golf and tennis set.
I had joined after years of not being a member since last year they had a deal for the two of us for one year for only fifteen bucks. And I thought maybe we could save some money on things we needed like cheap car insurance or even for medical for me, but nope none of that was there and so I did not renew at the higher fee, but they badger you like you did anyway with mailers and emails weekly!
Now that unconventional earthquake that struck this afternoon just after two P.M. a 5.8 or 5.9 on the Richter scale the epicenter was about 88 miles south of Washington D.C., no injuries were reported, some cracks in buildings and a roof crumbled, but nothing too major. The shaking was felt from Charleston S.C. to Toronto Canada! CRAZZEEE!
Hurricane Irene has decided not to take Florida by storm and instead will be skirting ever so slightly our east coast but taking a direct aim on the Carolinas possible or even Maryland and Delaware et al… yep you got that right where the earthquake hit today!
Well, in that general area and it should be fairly mighty by then a Category 3 or 4 is predicted; let us all pray for our neighbors and fellow men and women to stay and be safe and very careful by being prepared.
Libya rebels took over their capital and stormed the compound in Tripoli!
All in all an amazing news worthy day!
Breaking news gone wild all day!
On the notes of ups and downs in life and oh yea the market rebounded slightly back up over 320 points, NDASQ too over 100 points, thus the right to say an up and down sort of day for the world and me… and yep I swallowed those legal drugs and shot up my Copaxone too, gosh I am such a whimp sometimes…but I tell you someday…I may become completely drug free and I will feel great, well maybe not great, maybe alright oh OK not all right, maybe just free, yep that’s the ticket free from the need to listen to people better educated than me in the medical field and think that they know it all in what’s best for me… yes!
Oh well, allow me for now just to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you all kindly to count your blessings and to share those overages and we will too!

"One extends one's limits only by exceeding them." " Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting their battle too."
How prophetic, hmm?
Is it not all true that the Chinese fortune cookie appears to have a handle on our worldwide society’s timely issues?
Or is it as we all know all too well that the more things change… the more they really stay the same?
Let’s take the first prophecy first, which was mine.
I suppose there are days where I do feel that I have reached my limits, but as most would say, go for it and try harder to succeed in whatever vein of doing this or that’s you desire.
It’s true that to many it may appear that I have given up, but I say nay, I just chose what I want more cautiously, since with all this time on my hands why rush?
Hubby’s therefore as you may have guessed was the latter one and I am more than sure he can relate to this one, since he chose professions that dealt with caring for others and understanding their own interior battles. And if not, he has me daily to remind him!
We have more times than not discussed these topics to exhaustion, but we all have different insight on how to attack and deal with them.
Have you ever felt when people ask you how you are they don’t really mean it.
Yep, that was rhetorical or perhaps just rhetoric.
It is a rare soul who isn’t just asking to be polite.
And then why do I feel on occasion to tell them a menu in litany form of my maladies.
But not always, since I do know that most have their own metaphoric ‘cross to bear’, and I am as sure as the day is long and I do realize that no one needs more to think about with all that ‘on their plate’ too! More of those idioms too, hmm?
And so I feel that when I am asked that I would make light of the question by saying same “just hunky dory” or even “fine”, “good”, or sometimes for the fun of it, “can’t complain since no one wants to hear it anyway!” LOL!
But that one can be off putting and you better be aware of whom you are dealing with and that they have a sense of humor too, and don’t think that you are fishing to more interest, hmm?
How many narcissists do you know, I mean besides me? Nah, mine is negative narcissism or opposite of narcissism.
Kidding, but maybe not that much, since all these blogs are about me and my thoughts and feelings, projects, ideas, personal difficulties and on and on, uh oh!
But imperfection is what I am about, not the other.
I’m good, or many might say, maybe not.
Any-who, tonight was an exercise on the power of thoughts and words placed in an order that begs for discussions.
Whatever you feel about the ‘fortune cookie’ I bet we all must agree that whenever we get one the first thing we need to know is what is in it that could be our fate that could be our own future concepts of how things might turn out for us, it’s exciting and tantalizing all at once…or not, sure it is…be happy, be well and smile…makes the world smile back!
Allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to count those blessings and kindly share those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Another night of noisy storms...conducive to movie watching
So long as we don’t lose power, as we did yesterday while watching the movie Blindness circa 2008, fiction, it’s about when a virus or something is causing people in a city to go blind and was shown at the Cannes Film Festival that year, guess we will have to rent it in order to see the end, was a suspenseful flick. We got it for free on the CW or channel 46/6 here without having cable.
Friday night we did watch a rental one, Soul Surfer, very inspirational; true story of Bethany Hamilton who was a teen competitive surfer in Hawaii and lost her left arm in a shark attack.
Tonight, we did not lose power yet but the storms were so violent sounding that I shut our computer down a few times in utter fear!
Sure we have a surge protector, but I am still shell shocked from Hurricane Charley of ’04, so SORRY!
We seem to be having a major lull or the storm could have moved away I wanted to get this published as quickly as possible and so I did not take the time to check the radar again.
This weather can fool you since we do have a tendency to get what the pros call a training effect where one storm stops with another right behind with appearing calms for short spurts in between or not. Sometimes they are one after another with no stopping what-so-ever!
As I have said many a weekend that we do watch many films since we still belong to the home delivery rentals, but not all have been gems worth discussing or recommending, you all know the movie score with that concept, hmm?
People please hold on to your jewelry when you leave your sanctuaries, especially your gold, thieves have been snatching necklaces off of people’s necks! So watch your bling thing friends, if you have not been keeping up it’s the only thing that has been going consistently up, oh wait that’s right petrol or gas too, but at least with gas we haven’t had to pay $1800 an ounce, yet! That thought scares me, and I bet you too!
Moving on… when upset from the nasty weather spurts that happen way too often this time a year I get tense and my concentration diminishes to nearly nil.
Every little distraction makes me lose my train of thought; does anyone else have this difficulty?
Gosh, I feel bad Hubby was playing with Skipper with a toy and Skip was play growling and I yelled it was too loud! You see what I mean? Not good.
Now the news sounds too loud to me in the other room.
Oh well, almost done.
It’s my nerves since I just heard more thunder in the distance as if it was trying to make a comeback…
I wrote another email to our estranged son who appears to be in the path of our latest named storm which could be a hurricane by the time it reaches the east coast of Florida. And so I offered our home for an evacuation location for him and signed it love Mom and Dad, how else? So far no answer, and with his job they might need him to stay put, but I felt offering the olive branch might get a small response…
On that note of making myself more miserable allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you kindly to count your blessings and to share your overages and we will too!

Forty-five minutes? We were so lucky, so far...
The storm came out of nowhere, but spoke loudly while it visited us this afternoon.
Thunder and lightening created dread for me and our noble pal Skipper who appeared to not have lost that creepy fearful sensation that we both seem to share from the hurricane that ’04 left us with.
Until the clash of thunder is right over your home with explosions staccato bombarding surrounding your personal world you have no idea how awful it can be. We were lucky we only lost power for forty-five minutes. I had called our Florida Power and light Company immediately on our house phone that is not a cordless since they don’t work in a power outage, and that’s another thing our FPL’s emergency number is very simple 1-800-4-outage, and they tell you by computerized voice and will contact you with updates if you so wish; only 235 homes were without power due to the storm.
I am sure many experienced similar reactions to war zones are what it could best be compared to.
Next week we may be getting one of those major storms coming directly at us.
If this next depression turns into a storm its name will be, Irene.
Pleasant enough name but until its associated with a hurricane of major strength and devastation, one never knows does one?
We should know within the next few days if we have to prepare to batten down the hatches and make ready for departing to areas unknown.
You see, until we have a realistic idea of the intensity and direction of the storm we don’t know what to do.
But yes it at least gives us a chance to get out of harms way; unlike the horror of a tornado, flash flood, earthquake or even sometimes a Tsunami.
And from experience we are in the know what to do, thankfully.
Only thing is this time we have to get another memory card for our camera to take the before and after pictures, which we found were so help in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley back in ’04.
The old adage, “A pictures worth a thousand words” is more than accurate when dealing with insurance companies.
You might want to also take pictures before you put your shutters on, since one time a new insurance company thought that our window had been broken when ours was left onto show that we had them. So I recommend, inside and out pictures to be taken before you batten down and the inside/out after too or at least outside; to prove that you took every effort to save your home and property.
Once you have all your proper information on where the storm may be going, since no one ever knows for sure then and only then can you consider in what direction you may have to go or maybe if lucky just stay put.
It’s definitely a wait and see game.
Wish us all luck in this neck of your woods of the world, it appears that we are now in the thick of the season and all we can do is watch, wait and listen to all our local authorities and meteorologists.
On that note of trying to keep safe now and always, take care, be well, smile and allow me to be the first tonight to wish you to kindly have a very happy good night and to count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!
And next time we will be here or be square, ya hear?
PS that medication that I was given for depression for all of $1.99 for thirty after only three days it did not agree with me, it caused nausea and more dizziness than even my Ataxia where I had to lie in bed and not move and so another good idea to help me my system refused…probably for the good, enough is enough!

Rumbling and tumbling and scary noises all around but so far so good!
As I write tonight a storm appears to be eminent and so I will try to hurry with my thought processes.
The length of time one lives in an area of the world should be known as their home, why after a few decades and a half they could even be considered nearly natives, huh?
But here in Florida it’s definitely not the case as it is all over the world.
Today was our twenty-fifth anniversary of our moving to the Sunshine State, yes, Florida!
Can a state embarrass you?
Sure by its reputation of handling its public image, from voting to stupid criminals, etc making the national news, but and there is a BIG BUT, we originated out of good ole New Jersey and these days what can I say about the TV show Jersey Shore, which just so happens to be the last place that we lived that we moved to Florida from way back on August 19.1986!
But sure we were proud of where we came from, after all we had great schools of higher education such as Princeton and Rutgers to name just a few. Edison and Einstein were important figures who started their inventions there. And an enormous reputation for producing many other show biz people who came from there such as Bon Jovi, John Travolta, Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen and many, many more. I could go on for hours. Our topography was not unlike a miniature of California’s, with the sea shore and mountains, rivers, streams, you name we had it all…but we also had the Pine Barrens and the so-called ‘Mob’, that used to bury the people they wanted to make, ‘disappear’, hmm…
While our chosen state has one of the, or I should say most beautiful beach in our country, Siesta Key, just about forty-five minutes north of us on our luxurious Gulf of Mexico! We have Daytona for the races and wild drive on beach of the Atlantic, the Space Coast and the Disney World and Busch Gardens etc and let’s not forget the Keys with the most famous writers’ key of all, KEY WEST, where Hemingway made his home.
Although, in recent years we have to lay claim to many others such as Stephen King, Robin Cook, James W. Hall, Randy Wayne White and more than I can think of past or present found our state to create somewhat of a muse of sorts in their inspirations for their writings, for that I am very sure… with our incredible waterscape views being a peninsula, similar in shape to Italy, and perhaps that is why we have a few cities named for theirs, such as Venice and Naples. I would be amiss not to mention the Cuban influence in Miami, a Spanish flair… but we also have the oldest city in America our own St. Augustine!
And so I bet you are proud too of where you live and sometimes you want to hide with the embarrassing things that make the airwaves too, hmm?
But let’s face it is a choice one makes in life and remember unlike family you can change it if it gets too difficult to accept, right?
But warts and all we love our lives here and interestingly enough our adult sons chose to live here too! Unfortunately quite a distance away from us but still in FLORIDA and so I suppose the initial choice way back when was a good idea for all of us…
All in all it has been an amazing 25 and we are looking forward to 25 more!
On that note of enjoying where you live, let me know how long you have been living in your home state and why you chose it?
Now allow me to be the first to ask you to have a very happy good night and to kindly count all your blessings and share all your overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
PS the noise has subsided, still no rain, the same thought as barking dogs don’t bite; or some such idiom?

If you were to die tomorrow how would you want to be remembered?
More importantly would you have any regrets before you took that biggest leap of faith into your next journey to your next stop, heaven or hell, or into a new being or into oblivion etc…, or whatever you believe in?
I think it would be great to be not unlike my parents who both had standing room only crowds at their funerals from all the family and friends that attended their good-bye services.
Many were kind enough to tell me how they felt about the people who were to me just, dear ole Mom and Dad and that was all I knew them for, as my parents.
Several relayed anecdotal tales of how my Mom or Dad had done this or that for them and were always there for them whenever any would call or knock on a door.
Not just taking people here or there to the store or doctor like my father would do, but for morale support and advice like my Mom would do or be a listening ear for the younger women in our neighborhood, since both my parents were ten to fifteen years older than most of my friends parents.
Dad put his brother through law school and fed people in the neighborhood for free when he owned a small grocery during the depression, yes, that’s the great one of the 1930’s…“Annie” era for you youngins, Daddy Warbucks? Woodrow Wilson was president? Ah, come on I’m not that much older than you all, nah, I wasn’t there either, not even a gleam in my parents’ eyes since they didn’t marry till 1941 or meet until the end of that decade, I think, but I was born nine years later or there about.
Any-who, my Daddy was not wealthy, just making it in those years too, but some or most were not doing well at all and so as he said he borrowed from Peter to pay Paul, which goes back to many idioms origins but I think what dad meant was more like charging more on some of his non-staple items allowing him to making it up that way to be able to give away things like potatoes, milk and bread and eggs and such… since my father was more honest than the day is long, and he did not have a dishonest bone in his body and was loved by all. I never heard anyone say anything bad about him ever or him about anyone else. This past January he would have been one hundred and four!
At their funerals a little over four years apart, Mom’s 2-1982, Dad’s 5-1986, people told me many things that I didn’t know about which was nice to hear at that time, and enhanced my memories of them; now looking back.
It was as if people who knew them as business patrons, family, friends, neighbors, siblings, aunts and uncles filled their blanks from their vantage points.
And so when or if you find your selves at a funeral I think those remembrances are the most you can do, short of actually doing the eulogy which I did for both my parents.
Dad asked me to do it for Mom and of course I did it for him too!
Love never ends in families and we should never ever take anything for granted, but you all know that… for this I am more than sure.
For me to not have only Hubby at my send off I would have too many fences to mend, but let me tell you one thing… if I did find the energy and ability to eat crow and apology for my all too blatant honesty of my feelings for this or that…at this point it would take another lifetime, perhaps two, and Geez I doubt anyone is willing to give me that!
Although, it would serve me right with the way I feel and it would be a nasty way to get even with me…
This is not to say that I have been always an ornery old witch (actually what rhymes with that), but let’s put it this way when I don’t feel well, as you all know… I tell it all!
Many call that complaining, huh?
Am I not entitled, after all this is AMERICA!
LOL!
All I wanted to accomplish was to remind my readership to be good to everyone, not to be like me. I suppose I was nice at one time, even altruistic some might say… but being jaded by some instances changed me, but I do have the ability to change back!
How about that, we all do, for this I am more than sure…
On that note which was sweeter than my title allow me please to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly count all your blessings and to share your overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Have you ever felt that being too honest was to your detriment?
I don’t know about you but I think that it can.
As most of you must know is that I suffer deeply from foot in mouth disease.
Lack of filters on my brain, mouth and fingers has gotten me in trouble quite often, and I wonder why at times?
Sure I know that sometimes what I say may not be what the world at large wants to hear, but it’s the truth when I say it!
Oh, sure there are times when my information is not quite right or probably just plain WRONG would be more accurate, but how would I know that until after I say it, hmm?
Fact checking is for paid professionals, not people like me, writing hackers, who just like to see the rate that they can produce a somewhat literate essayistic moderation of opinionated material!
WHAT?
By the by, has anyone but me noticed how prolific this stream of consciousness style of my writing has been? Yes, I go on, whether anyone cares to read it or not…got to count for something I would think, huh?
I mean I have rarely taken a night off, (except when hospitalized or very ill) and I think that I have been pretty much varied in topics, could it be a brain tumor? Not funny, it reminds of that movie Kindergarten Cop, (Circa 1990, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger before he was a gubernator and philanderer that got caught!) when the child said to the cop when cop said that the children were giving him a headache; “that maybe it’s a brain tumor?” Sure hope not! Damn headaches…though, not funny! (Again last night)
Or am I some sort of savant? Since I can remember things that I should not be able to…
Scaring me!
I do know when I was writing my novellas the joy of doing so had me writing, if I recall, ten thousand words a day, would you believe?
Yep, I would get up before dawn and it was as if I were possessed by a likable, no lovable writing genie that installed themselves into my body like a willing host.
Not quite an alien’s story, you know due to it being happy and not scary at all… oh all right a wee bit scary since no one wants foreign beings taking over their minds or even their bodies, but still for the good, not for the evil, right? LOL!
Imagination is a wonderful thing when it’s in your childlike brain working over time and as we grow into adulthood we are told to, ‘get real’, and be logical, or just told come on grow up, hmm? Sadly, then most of the performing/visual arts would not exist… something to think about, huh?
Actors have jestingly been called liars because that is what they do for a living, make you believe that they are someone else, and writers make up stories for you to believe too, hmm…
Maybe lying can be used for good?
Something for us all to think about…or not?
On those rather odd ideas from my compromised (Legally) drugged, but sleep deprived brain allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and ask you kindly to count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!

Heights and other phobias...
Funny how we all are afraid of something’s, and if you say that nothing frightens you then I won’t believe you! So there, and now I am sticking out my adult tongue at you!
We all know that snakes are big on many people’s fears’ lists; as well as flying, and heights, speaking in front of a large group and on and on...
Some small children are scared of the dark or monsters in the room at night…
But what we must realize that most fears are unjust in the ideas themselves, since most people will always tell you why, which usually interprets as not as logical reasoning as they may think, hmm?
Avoidance is the way most of us with fears deal with them, or me, yep sure I got them, but not the ones that you may think.
Although, I may have mentioned some on occasion here but I will be darned if I can remember; an hour go and I will go on as if… this is new news…I know; what did she say?
Compared to old news, bud dump bump; besides it’s all new to me…this discussion…
Any-who, sure I mentioned my fears of getting worse with my illnesses, who doesn’t worry over that, dying, is the worse from any ill, but I am talking irrational fears…
Like my fear of falling into the Grand Canyon, yet when I was there as a fifteen year old it never entered my brain. But Daddy said don’t get too close to the edge and I looked down and it was really far down… but I did get to ride a mule/ donkey/burrows/jackasses, whichever those four legged working equestrian carrying critters are, that made the trek all the way down into the cavern with me a willing passenger, wow what a nice remembrance, then why do heights frighten me to this day? I do know I fell off of a ladder while washing my windows in my mid-forties and broke my leg, but I had gotten back on that ladder again after.
I loved horse back riding as a child even though while taking a lesson the horse decided to lie down but I got off before he rolled over on me, quite high up there since he was sixteen hands high, but nah that can’t be it.
I have flown so many times that I have lost count, and no problem there, except with turbulence, yuck and oops…
So I still don’t get it?
I love all animals especially dogs and I have been bitten three times in my life, from pure stupidity.
Once at the age of five by a Chihuahua when bending down to pet it and telling it how cute it was. To the doc for a shot, dog put in quarantine.
The second time I was a preteen visiting my aunt and her door was open so my Mom her sister and she yelled hello, no answer and I went into my Aunt Lilly’s bedroom and her cocker spaniel named, Count, were lying on her bed and I thought I would say hello by petting the dog, forgetting that 'Count' had a notorious reputation of biting people, including her whole family of men, my uncle and my two boy cousins but never ever my Aunt Lilly! Growl and snap! Second bite accounted for. To the doc for a shot, dog put in quarantine.
Third was my fault I still believe and I suppose the others were too, since neither dog had good reps. The first I didn’t even know and the second I knew, but thought I was invincible and to be fair her reputation was only on assaulting/ biting men, and so I thought I would be in the clear.
And the third was with the collie/Shepard mix that was our younger son’s dog, Andrew, a victim of that hurricane of the same name that I gave to him for company in college, which he lived in an apartment not a dorm and he gave him back to me five years later when he went into the Navy!
Maybe that’s what made Andrew, Andrew, all the confusion, anyway the day he bit me was when I was writing those five novellas back in the late 1990’s and editing through the early turn of this century.
Any writer knows once in the zone they can all relate being in that zone.
In those days I chained smoked and chain drank, coffee friends, that’s all… well… Hubby was up in Tampa a hundred miles away for a hurricane conference and it was a Sunday afternoon and I still had on my jammy’s and had not entered the shower, which meant I was on a roll with my thought processes and no one and no thing could stop the flow!
Until, in my excitement I got up to refill the java cup and rolled back into Andrew lying directly behind me!
I must have gotten his tail since let out a mighty howl to put all others that you may have thought of in your past experiences, even worse than wolves at bay, whatever that means, always wondered, any-who he was hurt and Mommy did it!
And so I bent over to see if he was OK, what would any of you do, huh?
And he went berserk when I asked the rhetorical question, “are you all right”, and his answer was an enormous engine grinding, ‘GRRRR’ and rip roaring chomp! Yep, forty stitches worth, shot, Augumentin and dog put in quarantined although we had proof of all his shots including his rabies shot. I drove myself to the hospital after I washed my falling off upper lip off in a quickie shower so I could dress; the insurance was there for me then.
Even so they called in a plastic surgeon that apparently was at barbecue and so it took him five hours to show up…and when he got there he nearly refused to stitch me up since he tried bartering with me to quit smoking before he would touch me!
Some might remember me telling this story but for those who did think of this as a reprise.
And I have never ever once not had a companion that I did not love of the four-footed persuasion and others too… quite a menagerie at times here or wherever we have lived.
And some might say you should be afraid very afraid!
But nope, just heights and causing too much expense to my family with all my ills but that’s it!
We live in our third ranch style home since we have been living in Florida and so the heights thing rarely if ever comes up, but one never knows, does one?
If you analyze your fears perhaps they will not be so scary too…who knows, what’s the worse that can happen?
Sure we could die, but don’t we all eventually do that anyway?
Be fearless and I will try to too!
On that note of do as I suggest not as I do; please allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly count all those blessings and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
PS thanks for reading!

Eye if...
I do not know for sure what is going on with my eyes right now, but it is not a very good feeling.
All I can say is that my eyes and my head are still not co-operating in the get better feeling game of life.
Today I had my scheduled appointment with my neurologist, which is every three or four months… and guess what; she is pregnant with her first, a daughter and due in November! I tell you that must be contagious since you see that a lot all over the place, why another gal on tonight’s news was in that condition too! Gosh not everyone is obese, ya know? LOL!
This sort of fat is the good fat, for a reason fat, temporary kind…I remember that one.
Any-who, I almost did not post tonight due to this pain I am having even while so overly medicated. And oops I almost forgot I happened to mention to the neuro doc about all this recent baloney of ills and the money thingy causing me to become depressed and so she asked me if I wanted another prescription. This time I almost said no, but she said that Walmart had it for a bargain price of $4, but her office is close to that new pharmacy we just started with and we were going there anyway to pick up our Centrum Silver which we had a coupon for. Charlotte Pharmacy had would you believe for only $1.99 for a count of thirty of Citalopram tabs 20MG, my new anti-depressant? And so of course we got them there with the vitamins and free baby aspirins 81 mg. 30 for each of us, a special deal. So the whole bill was under thirteen bucks. Even the doc took off 20% of her bill, and since she will be taking off for maternity leave, my next look see with her will not be until January! A reprieve! Now wouldn’t it be nice if nothing were to go wrong or happen where I would need to see her covering neuro doc?
Boy, what a worry wart I am sometimes…new mantra, be well, be happy, and smile…
Everybody repeat after me, be well, be happy, and smile!
Again, and again, etc!
We will see… I can only hope since lefty is misbehaving terribly badly for the last few hours thus my reasoning for not doing this tonight.
My other thing is I do hope that with all these foreign substances in my system that these docs and the pharmacist know what they are doing!
My feeling better is an up and down sporadic sensation that’s why I hope these chemicals are not going to make me worse… and then I think do they know what they are doing?
Or should I toss them all out and just go commando, in this case it means without any drugs, not undie-less, folks!
Any-who, if my mind remembers correctly sometimes that could be the way to go, but I am in so deep now with all this legal junk.
Who knows…if I would do more harm or good?
And so I will lull my dull brain into a resigning of accepting my current medicinal fate…its times like these that I wish I had a gatekeeper.
Gatekeeper, you know with certain types of insurances they oversaw it all to make sure it was distributed appropriately for the right purpose, if I recall correctly?
On that spark of my old world in my memory, since now I have to fend for myself in all this. You see, Hubby is not into anything medical, even with his own stuff, allow me to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you kindly to count all your blessings and kindly share all those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Forgive
Guilt overcame me when I thought about what I had said so cavalier to all of you last night that sort of in my recollection that too bad the photo of my excerpt in the book was too small to read and that you all would have to purchase the book in order to know what it actually said…Now I ask you how rude is that, hmm?
I feel so ashamed and so tonight I took a leap of your faith in your true nature of curiosity and with much personal difficulty to my own limited abilities these days I think that I have copied it verbatim for your viewing…
You see, I felt that what I wrote, when I looked it over once again aside from the mention of contractors and insurance companies that you could replace it with senators and other government officials and of course the enemy hurricanes could be the economy and lack of jobs etc… or instead of just a state while all of the states could be included in the revised version, but I am more than sure you all know personally what to replace those things with for this I am more than sure, its meaning might be also apropos for our trials and tribulations of our today’s daily journeys difficulties… But I could be wrong as you all know I have been wrong so many times before and I am sure that I will be again and again… but let me assure you not due to malice of forethought or any other such legalities…LOL! You all know what I mean or perhaps not…

We are in flux, but soon we’ll be able to return to what we remember as home.
Hurricanes have caused all to be in an uncontrollable situation. We must take back that control!
As a state we must reconnoiter all options to regain our strength as a whole entity, train ourselves to be valiant, reclaim what we lost and make it better.
We can network our knowledge and resources.
We can show compassion for one another in this horrid commonality of misfortune.
The old adage is true, misery does love company.
Understanding, first hand, what others have been through gives us something we all can relate to.
A TV show psychologist stated that to cope with such traumas, we must turn emotion into motion. Simply said; do something! Energy should be well spent in a positive productive way. This way we disallow negative thinking to take over.
And yes, we all have plenty to do to accomplish our tangible tasking.
From simple, annoying, repetitive calling of insurance agents and contractors to physically getting in there and doing the work to repair or replace.
Life has never been simple, but with a recipe to regain whatever we consider our normalcy, this unreality too will become familiar, bringing us again to what our lives once were.
With a bit to think about, I can only hope that I have taken a wee morsel off of your heavily burdened shoulders with some positivity and on that note please allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly to count all your blessings and to share your overages and we will too!

Anniversary
Anniversary is annual observation or ritual of a past event, happy or sad.
Today was the seventh anniversary of the devastating event of Hurricane Charley Friday the thirteenth 2004, our seventh.
Below is the experience of that day remembered on the fifth anniversary in 2009.
Friday August 13. 2004
Today is an infamous anniversary; the fifth one of Hurricane Charley, and yes it was a Friday the 13th.
I was trying hard to write for you a time line of what actually occurred here that day, but I must have put quite a bit of it out of my mind since it did create most of us to go into mild shock due to what we experienced that particular day.
Not at all that different from post traumatic stress syndrome I suspect.
What I do remember is watching closely the news and weather reports out of Fort Myers where all of our local information comes from; my hubby was at work as a deputy, a fairly normal day. We had made somewhat preliminary strapping’s down of things that could fly away, little did we know how stupid that would be, but it was supposed to not come here!
We were told initially that this milder storm not that much over hurricane strength was heading towards Tampa, about one hundred miles north of us, and I suppose this was on the news and weather at noon. I did worry anyway since our eldest son works in Tampa and lives not far from there, to the north about 20 miles.
The storm at this point I do believe was staying the course.
Coming from the Caribbean south of Cuba and was expected to veer towards the Gulf of Mexico where it might pick up speed, and develop into a stronger hurricane in the warmer waters there.
I think it might have been around 2 or 3 O’clock in the afternoon that things began changing for the worse for us. The weather reporters noticed that the storm was shifting direction, and it was heading towards Captiva and Pine Islands, and Fort Myers Beach, which are due west of Fort Myers, but south of us by about forty plus miles. Still in my mind too close for comfort that was enough for me to start to think ahead, and I began listening intensively to the safety procedures that were coming over the TV to get into a space without windows if you had no room that met that criteria get into your hallway and close all the doors, contain pets so they won’t scare and take off. And so I started making our small hallway into a sanctuary for me and the pets. I moved our 25 year old Cockatiel, oddly enough also named Charlie, but a different spelling in his cage in the back of the space, then I took a kitchen chair and got out the cat crate for our seven years old long haired orange Tabby Casey, the hardest part was putting him in it, and then listening to him complain about it, our Skipper was only a five month old puppy at the time and so he was at my mercy and I was able to corral him and attach his lead so I could maintain him in our safety room.
Hubby was a whole other worry, but by now we had been in phone communication and he was busy making sure the county was hunkered down for the possible arrival of the storm by securing the Marine Patrol boats and equipment as well as notifying the public in what to do, and chasing them from harms way.
By the time the storm decided to take a sharp turn towards us, via the harbor, which we are 5 minutes from by boat, I had shut our main power source off and had the battery TV hunkered down with us in our control room, the hallway. I kept hearing from our wonderful son north of Tampa; he was also monitoring the storm and wanted to know how we were doing.
You see we were not that new to hurricanes we had all helped in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, a Category 5, back on August the 17.1992, and we were well aware of the devastation a hurricane could commit on a community, we had seen it first hand as well as both of our sons seeing it too.
But this was going to be different since we only went to assist after Andrew, and we actually lived over five and half hours away at that time in Ormond Beach. This time we lived here and it was coming right at us!
And we would be getting an up close and personal first hand knowledge of the horrible devastation it was beginning to seem, but little did we know for sure that this now category 4 hurricane was going for a direct hit on us, we were still hopeful it would miss us, or in denial.
I put up the puppy gate at the opening of the hallway, which allowed me not to have to hold Skipper on his lead the whole time, and it was just in time since something or someone was at the front door…I thought it might be the storm, but I looked out our very large picture window, and it was my hubby coming in! He had to grab tight the door the wind was trying to take it!
He had parked the old army truck they were using to move around the marine boats on our side pad from the driveway, the garage had been secured since the news people told that it should be, and our personal car was in there anyway.
And he did arrive just in time, because within seconds we heard a very loud noise that scared us both I had to grab hubby for him not to go and check it out; it was instinctive, but I feared for his life.
The wind was rip roaring all around us, and crashes could be heard too, but I was too scared to look and I focused on keeping the animals put. Hubby noticed the guestroom door making vibrations like in the Poltergeist Movie, and he took Skipper's lead and tied it from that doorknob on the guestroom to the bathroom one. At around five thirty, yes it was already that time, everything got deathly quiet. And hubby wanted to go look, but I begged him not to, it must be the eye of the hurricane, we both agreed, and he did take my concerns to heart and waited; all this time we were getting information from the local news, by seven P.M. they were saying we should be in the clear.
Nearly seven P.M. on the dot I stopped hearing most noises, and Hubby and I both agreed that we could venture from the hallway.
What we were about to see was going to change our world in ways that we could not ever believe.
The first thing was since we had drapes on the big picture window I thought that loud noise was something coming through it but thankfully it was not, since our thirty foot oak tree that stood majestically on our front lawn was lying on the ground blocking our way from getting out our front door.
Apparently, the metal stucco encased columns that made up our Spanish style veneer prevented the tree from crashing through that nine foot window!
But did block our exit from that entry way.
The other crash I inspected or maybe hubby was the guestroom; the side window had been smashed to smithereens and glass was all over the bed and the carpet, so I closed the door again so the animals could not go in. The hardest part was to go outside, our screen porch had rain coming in where it met the dinette ceiling, there was water coming from everywhere. Our fairly new wooden floors and carpeting were saturated! But searching around the rest of the house we only had the one broken window, it was a good thing we had installed new windows the year before, but why did that one break? Hubby went outside, and found out the answers to most of our concerns, our octagon Gazebo was gone, our two sheds too, and our next-door neighbors roof was in our backyard, and had hit the guestroom window and was only stopped by knocking our air-conditioner off its pedestal. It was lucky that our neighbors were not home. Our roof was still there but ripped to shreds in many places thus causing the rain indoors.
People from all over the neighborhood started to venture out, and hubby was helped by our other next-door neighbors on the other side tarp our roof. I questioned if I could used the toilet and did not get an answer so I did, and that was a mistake since that giant oak tree pulled the sewer pipe from the ground and all was shooting out into the air! Yuck is an understatement but again neighbors helped to pushed it down and hubby reconnected it. The power was off, our boat on the lift could not be seen or gotten too with all the debris, and it was everywhere, we had, had a sixteen foot arbor down to the water that was no where to be found it did have vegetation on it too. Our backyard oak also keeled over onto the fish pond and surprisingly the fish were fine, as well as the grapefruit tree, and the lemon and orange trees were both sheared. I could go on and on as you can see I have remembered so much of it all after all.
We still were alive, and when all was said and done we had, had over 80K dollars worth of damage on our tiny little home!
Thankfully, we have been rebuilt since December of that year, 2004, our insurance took care of our doing the work ourselves, fortunately I was well enough then to help a little, but our son, his girlfriend, my cousins, and another friend from the Arthritis Foundation are hugely responsible for being there when we needed them! We were one of the lucky ones; some still have not rebuilt.
On this long dissertation I will bid you all a good night, and I hope, I really hope that I have given you somewhat of a glimpse into what did transpire on that horrid day here in Charlotte County and in the surrounding communities.
That’s why when I say be safe, I mean it and when I say count those blessing I mean that too! And I do count them all, all of them our blessings that is!
Here’s additional important information from that day our home’s exterior destruction:
30 foot Oak tree fell down across our front door and driveway just missing Hubby’s patrol car!
The picture above is that same oak tree and the sewer pipe that I had no idea was out of the ground, yuck!
And the one below it is showing our side of our home where the guest room window was broken and a portion of our roof damaged over that room, but many points of shearing of the roof was evident from the fact that it rained inside.
The above picture is showing where our sixteen foot arbor was with vegetation over it, and the platform you are seeing was where our Gazebo was, 10X10 octagon latticed shaped with planters in between each opening and a paddle fan in the center. We also had two metal sheds, all gone… our boat was bought new in 2003 and had $4500 dollars worth of damage while on the lift, but all the rubble was hiding it, but thankfully it too was insured and as well as the house that had 80K worth. It took until October to get to start getting our money but we were back in our home by December of that year 2004, since we did most of the work ourselves.
At the time I belonged to a writing group called the Peace River Center for Writers and we eventually all compiled many writings dealing with our experiences of those two summers of multiple historic storms, in fact the book to be birthed from our experiences is called, “ Summer of the Storms”, and I have copied my contributory page from the compilation, which can still be purchased I believe through the center or the historical society, here’s my feelings after all was said and done..
I believe all horrendous experience needs to have similar resolves for our sanity to attack these problems with true ability by putting all of it into perspective. We as human beings on this planet have more strength than we sometimes realize, but never ever forget that we do have it!
All I can say is some things in life just stick with you forever the good stuff as well as the bad and this was just another blip in the bigger picture of things that we will never ever forget...
PS I see that the excerpt of my page 58 from the Summer of the Storms book did not photograph well, and so I guess you will just have to find it and buy it! LOL!

LOL!

The felon was not allowed any illegal guns,... what?
HUH?
That was a story on this evening news.
But I thought none of us were allowed any illegal guns, but I could be wrong, it’s not like I haven’t been wrong before is it?
Gosh, our local news teams are getting our local news on the air in rapid time spans, but Geez they usually get the job done with not too many gaffes… Oh what the heck they make a bunch of them, and that’s why it’s quite entertaining because they don’t do just hard news that’s informative, but stuff that makes you laugh, perhaps at inappropriate times, but funny just the same.
Most of us though are in our living rooms, kitchens or dens and who knows besides us when we let out those belly laughs, huh?
Living a distance from a major city we have many youngsters getting their training here right out of college I presume, since most look as it they have not been weaned yet… and more than likely twenty-one or twenty two…
Cute and perky are not insulting or sexist anymore, I believe that’s what these outer limits station affiliates look for in their hiring practices. Why, you ask?
And I will tell you my opinion, but it’s just between us OK? (Wink, wink) It’s because there are way too many for them to be clones or just coincidences I think, really!
The one though that made me guffaw this evening was actually a seasoned anchor of perhaps thirty five or more. Well, I suppose he’s entitled too, exhaustion from all the information gathering to make it on air on time, I am more than sure, at his mature age too, tisk, tisk…
All I can say is keep em’coming! They are a nice respite from reality or I should say a different dimension of reality, with our nightly news so crazy, local and national and world taking us in all directions, and they are rather welcomed distractions from it all! LOL!
Producers for these faraway from major network cities, smaller markets, are not too organized since we have had nights/days and mornings where the film to go along with the story is not in the right time slot or outright not there or the wrong one is installed for a different story altogether. It must be hard to be the director of the nightly, afternoon or even the morning news here, but never dull!
Not the stories per se, not that they are not, but the presentations could be considered rather random or repetitive, since they seem to stretch hour and half time slots with every half hour repeats unless there is of course breaking news! Hubby does still believes that many are just ‘talking heads’ and read off of the monitors, idiot boxes I think at one time they were called, but I will leave that one alone for now. And that others actually write the newsworthy items and that they do not compile the stories themselves our on-air locals he thinks.
That can’t be!
Why, you ask?
I know you didn’t because I can’t hear you, but I will take your silence as a yes.
Yes, on the why, huh?
Never mind…
Because in order to have someone else writing the stories they would have to be paying additional professionals and I don’t believe they have that kind of money in their budgets, but I could be wrong, as I have said before that I have been wrong before. Supposedly these local upper management get paid anywhere from 60K to 100K on the air, not too shabby, almost as good as doctors here, nah they get twice that. And besides I’m not paying their salaries, it’s not like they could get cancelled going over budget, is it?
A disclaimer by this blogger/writer and I use those terms loosely: I did grow up back in the fifties, sixties, seventies and even lived there well into the nineteen eighties and where we received our TV news was out of New York and Philadelphia, and I do have to admit that they too had plenty of mistakes nightly or weekly, but I think it is so charming to think that even with all this techno stuff highly capable of polishing their abilities to have access to everything at a flick of this or a click of that the times are not that much different when we weren’t quite so mechanized…something to think about… that’s all I am saying.
As the expression goes the more things change the more they stay the same…
On that noteworthy observation allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you kindly to count all your blessings and share those overages and we will too!
And a special prayer goes out to a Facebook friend of all ours who not only has MS, Multiple Sclerosis, but fortunately she is in remission from her Leukemia. Although, now is having a rough time with her current meds, but if they work it will be great and be more beneficial, so everyone please put her in your prayers! I never asked for anything like this before but she is a heck of nice gal and a really good FB friend.
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Rough night...
How was your night last night?
Mine was my title, and then it went from bad to worse…
Have you every wished that your head was cut off?
No?
That’s what mine felt like last night, and the pain was excruciating too!
Really roguish rough reeking ruthless ranting racking ridiculously rowdy raunchy night...
I hope that helped you with a visualization, you know it’s not that easy to explain when you are this sleep deprived.
Now that I got that out of the way I will tell you the rest of what transpired in my miserable night of horrors, wait that is a bit too strong. Oh, all right, I guess it was not a pleasant time for me but horrors is a bit of an overstatement…hold on to your seat though and ask your loved ones for permission for whence we go may be a bit turbulent just the same…huh?
Nah, I will tell it as it was in my best recollection of the happenings…OK?
I left the entertainment area of the homestead, yep our living room... and turned in at my pretty usual time around elevenish…fairly regular at this point, except before I hit the pillow I thought I would check my glucose since my head and warmth feelings weren’t quite right and sure enough my number was not the usual for a non-diabetic it was 160 for after the proper waiting period a couple hours after dinner. But even though it was bit high, but it wasn’t that high, borderline, and so I felt I should not go to bed and wait a while longer, about forty-five minutes later I took it again and it went down without any medical intervention and so I did finally go to bed.
And that lasted for less than two hours since my head screamed ouch!
And so I got up and got an alcohol soaked washcloth for my head and alcohol dipped cotton balls for both ears, and put more of my Systane drops in my eyes and made a cup of decaffeinated green tea, and turned on the TV, not much was on at two-ish in the A.M.
I did locate ET, Entertainment Tonight, I always like that show; must be opposite some of my other prime time favs for me to not see it that often when not in these ungodly hours… I watched awhile, had my tea and my other accouterments all seemed to help so I tried for the sack again; by now it was around two thirty in the A.M.
A few hours later… OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwwww my aching brain, wait is it still in there or is this some alien being trying to scratch its way out?
Well, now I decided to see what time it was, and sure enough it was morning, five A.M. I supposed I could get up and I did. I decided that perhaps that the, Fluticasone Propionate, which is the steroid nasal spray that cost 30 bucks was not working, and better yet, could it be causing my last nights fluctuation in my glucose numbers?
Baffled since the nurse at the doctor’s office felt that it would not.
Misery is not a great companion and so I felt instead of waking Hubby that I would annoy a professional who might have the ability to put my theories into perspective and have some answers too and so I called ask-a-nurse once again, my weekend and odd hours’ pals.
Once on the other end of the line the nurse could not hear me, hmm, did I have one who had hearing issues or was something else afoot?
Yep, it was my ancient house phone, ever since they said again that cell phones can cause brain cancer whenever not absolutely necessary I use the house phone, especially if it is a local or toll free number, which are the only ones that its good for…Any-who, apparently it was me, that is my volume on my ancient contraption and so I pumped the volume up and voila she could hear me!
This must be how the miracle workers feel, huh?
Of course I am kidding … but I’m sleep deprived so give a gal a break, OK?
My questions were short and concise once her interrogation of my info was compiled again. I was told that old standby either call your doctor when they open or come in to ER and get checked out, huh?
I felt like shouting why are you there?
Anyway she did give me an absolute on the nasal steroids very well could cause my glucose to go up and so now I have another medication that is no good for me.
The crazy thing about all this is that all I wanted or in my opinion needed was a free anti-biotic that our drug stores offer to everyone no matter who you are!
And guess what that’s what I am on now after calling my new doc’s office, a Z pack, its called of Azithromycin tablets 250 mg. You take two the first day then one each day after for the next four days and guess what our new Charlotte Pharmacy did not charge a penny and delivered it for free too! Wild, like a throw back to the 1950’s, a drugstore that delivers and for free! They were the ones who got my money anyway on the one that didn’t work and the topical that has too many side effects for me to use anymore so liberally, Voltaren Gel 1%, and so I will be cautious that was the ten dollar off but 40 bucks drug. The GERD medication that I received samples of is Dexilant 60mg. taken once a day and so far I think we have a winner it does seem to be helping! But these usually take weeks and now with the antibiotic and this and my Pepcid Complete I have to wait two hours on either end and I will remember because the antibiotic is only for a few more days but has the ability to stay in my system for I think it says ten days more…one can only hope…
I know it was a bit of a dud in the excitement arena but you have to admit it is not unlike what many of you too might have experienced at one time?
Although, I truly hope that it is not… but, perhaps, at least slightly relatable?
On that sensitive warm fuzzy of my true caring for my fellow men and women allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night to all and to all kindly count those blessings and share those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Awhile ago many were shocked by the salaries of our elected officials...
When the people we hang our health care needs on also make a bundle off of our not being healthy, does that seem fair to you?
I really wonder about the fact that us not being the picture of what is appropriately healthy makes them very wealthy, why the word even rhymes with healthy, how truly interesting, why is that?
Has anyone else but me picked up on that?
And just imagine a world without any ills, whatever would our healthcare professionals, doctors to pharmaceutical companies do? Although, insurance companies want nothing to do with truly ill folks, since it costs them money and therefore is NOT COST EFFECTIVE, hmm? No wonder they don’t want any of us chronically ill or dying patients, hmm? The ones who NEED THEIR HELP THE MOST!
I find this all extremely interesting, how about you? It’s definitely nothing new sadly.
Makes you wonder if it is really in their best interest to make us all well, hmm? The insurance companies should be in charge of that perhaps, it would lower their payouts and be to their advantage, eureka!
Has anyone but me thought of this? LOL!
I know they don’t have medical degrees or chemical degrees or micro-biological degrees or etc. degrees needed to cure the world of all its ills… Well folks we are still waiting!
What’s taking those medicos so very long?
Medicine has been around for what, how long? From what I gleaned from my short glance at the below site it appears to have been around for four thousand years give or take a few hundred, gosh that’s longer than most other civilizations, that is if it were considered civilized then, and so my questions still stands, why haven’t we been cured? And I don’t mean like meat!

The site above is more than interesting it’s downright educational! So much so I am going to save a copy to my documents, now how about that?
I do so feel that we as human beings have the need to learn daily and the best way to do that is to choose topics that interest you. I do know that was a no brainer, or should I say a weak brainer? Sorry, LOL!
Any-who, moving on… the rain is here daily and again I keep thinking of our yearly lament in the dry season, if only we would get some rain… good grief, us kids have short memories yearly! Waiting makes it so… that localism that I used in one of my own murder mysteries that I wrote way back in the late 1990’s was, ‘If you don’t like the weather here (in Florida) now then wait a while and it will change to one you like,” or some such idiom, but so true.
On some ideas to think about allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly count your blessings and to share all those overages and we will too!

Drugs
Let me explain… more of the legal ones that are doctor ($100 for initial office visit, $70 thereafter just ten dollars more than to see the nurse at the health department!) prescribed once more… that is.
I ask you who needs more, really.
This was my list before the doctor visit today:
Copaxone injections daily
Baclofen 10 MG, 7 tablets a day
Bayer Low Dose Aspirin, 81 MG 1X daily
Hydrochlorothzide 25MG 1X daily
Lisinopril 10 MG 1X daily
Simvastatin 40 MG 1X at bedtime
Centrum Silver 1X daily
Calcium 600 MG +D 1X daily
Pepcid Complete 2X daily
Systane drops as often as needed
And my new additions:
Steroid nasal spray ($30), topical pain medication ($40) and GERD medication (samples for 15 days, after that $136), also another was a strong pain medication, but I told them I already had tried that and it didn’t work and so I declined my need to filling that particular medication. If it all works… priceless! Otherwise I am up a creek without a paddle, oh and…
A script for more blood work a local lab, which I have yet to find out the cost of, but will tomorrow…
The horrid thing is that many think the worse of you when you don’t have insurance, but I always explain being pre-existing no one wanted me after Hubby was hurt on the job and then took an early retirement with all benefits, pension, Medicare and Other insurance and that I was left with nil. But at that time I was the needier one, but since then Hubby has proved to be a wee bit needy too and I must admit that I am relieved that he has his coverage now. I am also paying off surgeries, ambulance rides etc. monthly of a few hundred dollars and the truth is that I would much rather be paying a monthly health insurance premium, but even now we periodically try to shop for one and still the same thing, a no go for me.
If I lied I would probably get it, but as you all know I don’t do that.
Gosh the world is in a financial drain and so are individuals.
My biggest fear is that my illnesses will put us out on the street, but so far we have been lucky… I just hope that we will continue to be able to pay our own way.
If our government is having trouble that could mean we all will too… who knows… We all better start to learn to pray more often, HUH?
Some people believe so strongly that it works like that, and you gotta love that faith in them; I know I do.
The only problem with prayer in my mind is that it is usually a one way street, we more often than not are asking for something and the almighty never if ever asks anything of us; something to think about, huh?
I do think that counting our blessings like I suggest here nightly is not too bad an idea, since it helps us realize what we already have and then perhaps are less likely to request more stuff. I know most of us just want the bare necessities like food, a roof over our heads and wouldn’t it also be great to have our health too?
Gosh, that’s a bandwagon we should all get on… feed the world and make us all healthy!
But isn’t that what we as caring human beings try hard to do with different non-profit organizations, wow, we are all great!
And damn don’t we do the Almighty’s wishes daily when we do?
I am getting those warm fuzzies and when you stop to think about what’s good in this world you will too!
That’s a list I think we must all try hard to compile; just to reaffirm our belief in man/woman kind decency with the world in such turmoil its hard to remember when there are still more good things than bad with it all… it’s perspective and we must always try to remember that, what, you boldly ask?
The good in people. We know its there but sometimes we just have to look deeper.
And yep, these days I feel like a drug addict, but they are for my own good, ha!
Who would have thunk that at the jolly age of sixty-one I would be saying that, LOL?
Yes, things get sillier if you allow them to…
On that note of wondering, huh, allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you kindly to please count those blessings and to share all those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?

Something out of nothing...?
Making something out of nothing would be almost considered a magical power, true?
We as human beings do have that power and use it often, huh, you say?
Did you ever look at an egg and turn it into a gourmet omelet, just add spinach and your favorite cheese, huh?
Or as I did tonight take left over lean chopped beef (only 15% fat) that last night with a little bit of minced onion, Worcestershire (low sodium) and garlic powder was the making of our hamburgers, a couple made it into meatloaf style sandwiches for lunch but the remainder became the binder in our meat sauce for over our angel hair pasta (you can use more substantial rigatoni or bowties or linguine or whatever you so desire, but I like the angel hair since it takes about 4-5 minutes!) and heart smart tomato sauce with our additions of sautéed onions, mushrooms, scallions, and garlic cloves not to mention a dash of oregano and basil too! (The sautéing is in just about a couple of teaspoons of virgin olive oil).
Now my homemade croutons were the tiny ends from our bakery loafs of multigrain and marble rye with me cubing them and putting them into a Pam sprayed square baking pan and then tossed with extra virgin olive oil, rosemary, garlic powder, parsley and parmesan cheese and then placed in a preheated 350F degrees oven for only ten minutes.
These were going over my Romaine lettuce, mushrooms, red onion and scallions Caesar Salad with my homemade light Caesar dressing, which extra virgin olive oil is mixed with apple cider vinegar, light mayo, and powdered garlic and parmesan cheese, and stirred with love.
Cool those croutons while putting the rest together and voila, dinner!
As I said, we all have the power to make something from nothing voila, magic!
The best part of this menu is using leftovers and other items that are hard to find a good use for.
It is also the lower cal version, as well as lower in sat-fat and sodium of many other recipes.
Today was a strange day, since my sinuses have still been causing me to lose some sleep at night. My ears and neck and head seem to chime in too when I lay my head upon my pillow, not great and a BIG OUCH! I do use my eye drops for my very dry eyes that I have had for years, and since with all my other maladies I cannot take over the counter decongestants with my high blood pressure medication so I have been using saline sprays or my netty pot, but still no help, even the Vicks Vapor rub on the tissue method is not that long lasting. I even put alcohol soaked cotton balls in my ears due to their pain as well. My neck is nasty, but is it from all this sinus stuff, or my MS or my cervical stenosis? My headaches must be also along with my bloodshot eyes and eye socket pain, all too crazy, and this is seriously no fun! But I have gotten a doctor’s appointment and once seen I do hope I will suffer no more from this additional problem added into all my others!
I need to sleep.
Even taking that extra cup of java has not helped with the headaches or my exhaustion.
On this tiny dilemma in the bigger scope of things please allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy good night and to ask you to kindly count all your blessings and to share those overages and we will too!
And next time please be here or be square, ya hear?
