We all have some expectations on a daily basis of how things will go for the day, right?
And most notably, we as adults are able to deal with any possible minor disappointments that the day may give us from not meeting our beliefs of just how things should have gone for that day, correct?
Sure, barring anything major like extreme illness accident or death, true?
Absolutely!
That is why today’s choice of entertainment was not that big a deal on the expectation odometer.
To be kind would be to call it a dud.
The problem is when I hear of anything of entertainment value occurring within a decent road trip’s distance for us to go to, to enjoy I have this unrelenting tendency or need to spread the word so others too can have fun!
And then I silently go into my embarrassment mode when I realize that perhaps the excitement I stirred had gone flat, and when I don’t hear from my list of contacts who I anointed with my enthusiasm I reevaluate the reasoning for me to want to be somewhat of a town crier.
Today was one of those days…sorry folks!
The arts and crafts show seems to have been same old same old, not anything new under the sun, not even that much art or crafts to be honest, and that sun I mentioned which happened to be blocked by clouds and also a nasty wind that kept us in the high fifties today instead of the mid-seventies as we should have been!
The best things that happened for this day is that I accomplished the completion of my first epic novel early this morning before we left for lunch, which was not too bad at Bob Evans that now serves a few low cal healthy dishes. I had a spinach salad with cranberries, pecans, apples, and chicken with fruited vinaigrette, 380 calories so it said! (At least I hope so). Skinny Hubby had a ‘rise and shine’ a big late breakfast that he enjoyed too!
Hubby called his Mom and was recognized by her!
All is well, when that occurs, right?
And so all in all it was not too bad of a day after all folks.
We all must make the most of those little things in life that brighten our days, correct friends? Correct.
And so on that positive note I will wish you all a good night and ask you to count those blessings that you do have when you look hard enough and we will count ours too!
Speaking My Mind is about: Tobi, who is a middle aged, no, oh all right a slightly over the hill woman with all the imperfections that go with that, and this concerns her daily life's perceptions and experiences.

On the verge...
Have you ever wondered why contact with anyone would be from afar? By notes or emails, snail mail or phone calls, but never in person.
Mysterious and intriguing are thoughts that do come to mind.
I, a person with a love for novels of those genres question why someone living in the real world would be able to captivate an almost impossibility of retrieval of those images of the desire to parallel a character in such a possible story line, do you get what I am trying to say?
Theories of why this might occur are due to many potential anomalies in the way the earth may justify us to begin with on its own terms, what did I say? LOL
We are human beings with flaws, plain and simple.
And why we do what we do is still as baffling to some of us as if we were from another planet, not just men understanding women, but same sexes understanding one another too.
Sometimes people feel the need to tread carefully while communicating with others realizing the sensitivity of that person’s shell, which may not be that hardened. In other words, in English speaking… too sensitive and unable to handle blunt truths!
Go with me here…a dear old friend contacted me by email weeks ago but since has stepped back, has she taken a turn for the worse health wise, and doesn’t want to discuss it? I hope not. But I already know about her laundry list of ills is as equal to mine if not longer, and we used to be there for each other to talk. Well, time passes and things change.
I suppose I have been also walking on eggshells with not asking her specifics while I in my true to my usual form and ability blurted out all of my problems to her within one short email back to her. I think I have my answer and it’s the same as always… that’s why, what I just wrote, I scared her off!
This is a very good hearted person that hasn’t the heart to be impolite and tell me her problems but is careful not to say anything that is going to set me off on a writing tangent of complaining, which is what I do almost nightly here.
But that’s what this is for, not in my real world!
I must separate the two!
A Blog is vent therapy.
I will muddle over what I just attuned to my brain, and perhaps my lessons of my own flaws will start to register.
On that realization I will bid you all a good night and suggest that you count your blessings while we count ours!

Have you ever attempted to paint in oils?
The reason I am asking is because I think that many have tried, but how many have actually succeeded?
What I am speaking about is gallery showing quality. Where a stranger of “the arts” ability noticed how terrific your interpretation of the light or shadows or object of art is.
Nah, neither have I, but the story that I am reading has a bit to do with that.
The artist, who doesn’t realize that he has talent, is deluged with accolades from new friends and his old family and the art world at large.
I will only allow another snippet from the novel, since I don’t want to ruin it for any who may have not yet read it.
I sort of lied before about not trying to paint in oils since I really had tried during my teen years, and without any classes or anything. I got an easel, and paints from who or where I don’t recall, and I began trying to accomplish what others study years to do, and I chose not a still life of fruit or flowers but what many considered the extremely most difficult thing to paint, a human hand, just a hand, my own darn hand, please don’t laugh.
Yes, if you recall I did say I was in my teens at that time, and challenges were exciting and meant to be tried with gusto.
Not like today when we as the older we get we just find ourselves trying a new way to do things that we once took for granted that now they can be confrontational in our daily grind, and we want to continue on this life’s journey for as long as we so choose. In those younger days I would like to think that I was fearless in trying new and different things, legal things, that is, for I was a good girl. LOL, yes I was!
I was quite fortunate in my growing up years that Mom and Dad encouraged that trying everything behavior and I did take advantage of it by taking all types of classes such as dance at the age four to my teens, and voice lessons, tennis anyone, figure skating, piano and clarinet, skiing, water skiing, and on and on. And so when our sons were small we did the same with them, and it is nice to know that trying is just that to see if you have an aptitude for it or enjoy it and want to continue.
Getting back to my artist rendition of my hand that was my downfall I set my sights perhaps way too high for a first timer and so I also set myself up to fail. And I painted over the canvas that displayed my right hand never ever to be seen by anyone, and so I shut my own door into any possibilities of learning more of if it was any good or just crap as I believe to this day. But that is not to say I don’t appreciate art, because I do, and even studied history of art in college, and did quite well.
That’s the way it goes in some cases you know, some love to create and some love to look, and I suppose I am the latter. But without the lookers the creators would of course have no one to show them to!
On that pondering of a very slight epiphany we will wish you all a good night and advise you to count those blessings and we will too!

Have you ever felt a simpatico relationship with a character in a novel?
You all have heard me speak frequently of enjoying reading and missing it when my cataracts made it too difficult to do.
Well, I’m back and very happy to report my first return trip to a voracious ferocious appetite for reading has been satiated to the degree that I feel the pull from my new novel calling to me to continue to read it as I write this, and yes it is that good!
Are you interested in what the title is, I must admit that it is not a brand new one, its apparently one I missed I’m embarrassed to say since I do read this particular author, in fact ever since the early nineteen seventies, since he began his amazing journey into becoming one of the most well respected authors of this century and the previous one writing in the genre of the macabre, and I believe I think I was one of the first to notice his resemblance to Edgar Allan Poe’s style. Have you guessed; I am sure you all know who I am speaking about? I bet you already know…Stephen King, who else? And the novel that I missed but are making up for it now with reading it, “Duma Key”, written in 2008.
To me it is quite an undertaking since I have returned, for the first time in ages back into the realm of reading; this novel could be considered an epic in its proportions at six hundred and eleven pages, a challenge, which I always enjoy.
I chose it as the first of the several books we borrowed from our county library and it is the longest. The return schedule is long for not brand new ones, and all the ones I chose are not new, but Hubby chose one that was and that has only two weeks until it must be returned. It’s so nice to be able to turn off the TV and have some other form of entertainment and escapism to absorb my active mind in.
And the adage goes; good readers make good writers, right?
That is why I do understand the necessity to continue with this past-time that I have loved since a child.
This particular story also drew me in very quickly since it is Stephen King’s first time using Florida as his backdrop and locations not far from where I live. Most of the mentioned places are real accept for the titled key, Duma it is an imaginary locale.
The main character is also likeable and relatable since he becomes injured through no fault of his own and how he deals with it is interesting to say the least, and knowing King’s joy of never the ordinary straight and narrow way of telling anything this has so many twists and turns of the unexpected supernatural type moments, but it is as usual a true King methodology of expressing a tale. I like it and I haven’t even gotten to page two hundred!
He lives here too part of the year; not here by me, but in Florida, he has for years.
PS Stephen King will be visiting our Cultural Center in March, and four hundred tickets will be given out for free through a lottery starting in February, one can only hope for one, can't one?
Good night to all and to count those blessings and we will too!

Today would have been my Father's 103 rd birthday!
And so a few years ago I decided instead of feeling sad on the anniversary on this marvelous occurrence, since I am sure that his Mom was overjoyed not sad at all, but perhaps in normal labor pain, I felt that the day should be celebrated!
He lived a good life, and was joyous most of all of it.
My Mom’s birthday is next month on the 22nd, and she would have been ninety-nine, and I think we shall go and have another celebration too of her day that she entered the world.
Remembering loved ones that have left the planet is a very special individual thing.
So many religions mourn the day they die, which rightfully seems to be the most unified way to handle death. But when time passes we all should try to remember that loved one in our own unique fond way in my opinion. Some believe that lighting a candle is enough, or visiting a grave and bestowing flowers there, but for you to enjoy happy fun things to do are probably more than likely what that person would absolutely wish for you to do to go on. For as they say they are in a better place, right?
So many anniversaries, so many dates to remember; today is also Holocaust Remembrance Day, and that is a horrendous time to remember, but we should never ever forget what happened either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_HaShoah
We celebrated today by going to the library and getting several books, since I can see now! Our branch is connected to our cultural society, and so we went inside to look around to see what was going on, and it was teaming with activity. People were getting their taxes done, and finding less expensive prices on insurances, games were being played, classes were being taught and on and on and on, and outside was a farmer’s market. And so we chose wisely some farm fresh produce, a pint of grape tomatoes for only a $1.25, and four bananas for 55 cents a pound, and a beautiful Mango for just a dollar, which I am now drying the seed of so we can have ourselves a tree that will fruit in about eight years!
On that pleasant thought I will leave you for the evening and wish you all a good night and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Taxes, laundry, and taking apart this keyboard full of yuck!
The one thing that we accomplished easily today was our taxes online and we’re done again for the year!
There is something to be said for simplifying your life, and financially we did that about four years ago. We are getting a whopping two digit amount back for the very last time more than likely, since we stopped the powers that be from continuing that practice of taking out for taxes because we were getting it all back at the end of the year anyway.
Being retired we don’t need to have it sit in their pockets when we could use it for whatever we have to, and we were getting much more than double digits back then. We were receiving high triple digits! What we told them though last year after the first of the year that we would prefer to receive the whole amount since we only get it back anyway got it; thus the small amount returned.
I awoke in the wee hours again; I appear to be in a very bad sleep mode, getting up every two hours during the night, spasms mostly, and just uncomfortable in finding a decent sleep position.
And so by five A.M., I got up., and I did a white load in the washing machine, of course! All laundry was dried and put away well before Hubby got up.
Tuesdays have become my water the houseplants day and so I took care of that too, all accept the one I cannot reach, but Hubby did that one atop this computer breakfront when he arose.
While doing the taxes and even writing this Blog the last few weeks I have noticed how often the keys were sticking, spacers, and the rest.
So I shut down this computer today for several hours and we Hubby and I took this keyboard apart and commenced to making it sparkle and shine and work like new!
It was literally encrusted with yuck, not to be too technical.
Due to me more than him I must admit, since I am a snacker, and have been known to spill a beverage or two at times.
Fortunately it was redeemable, and I am using it as my nimble fingers dance over these smoothly moving keys once again!
Once these little suckers are turned off, actually the whole computer shut down it is easy to remove the electronics by turn a few screws, and popping the keys off. But first if you do it, remember to photograph the keyboard and print it out so you don’t have to try to remember where each key belongs. Then warm water and dish soap do a fantastic job on the letters etc., but make sure all components are well dried off before putting it all back together. I found paper towels do a great job of rolling the keys in and when the paper stays dry you know they are dry too.
You should recycle the paper towels though. They are great for wiping the counter since the keys were clean by then and only wet, and so the paper towels can serve double duty, as well as for napkins for dinner for just family, not for company of course!
Good night to all and count those blessings and we will too!

Quiet times should be relished, right?
How many times in your lives have you complained that life was boring?
Most would probably answer too many to count, don’t you think?
Just during those teen years alone would account for millions of times of saying, “I’m bored”, that probably would have been said by me and my many friends over those harsh years of adolescence.
I once heard, most likely in my early childhood development psychology class that a child who can entertain them self was more than likely an intelligent child.
Who writes these things?
As we all know those text books were written by well educated knowledgeable people in their particular field, most likely a psychologist or physiatrist familiar with the topic of early childhood development, correct?
Now for the hard part, how do they study the children that enable them to come to that conclusion?
Do they put children in a cage or a two-way mirrored room to watch them to see how each individual child reacts in each individual situation?
Or do they just assume that when a questionnaire is filled out by loving or not so loving parents that they have the exact ability to comment on what is asked of them in respect of specific questions?
This has baffled laymen for as long as the professionals in their respected fields have stated that they are the last word of how this all comes about and that what they profess to teach is true and concise information from reliable sources.
But is it?
Before these professions of the mind were accepted professions, experience was considered the best teacher, or trial and error.
I can remember a time when many said that their first born was their experimental child, and that what they learned from that one right or wrong would enable them to parent much better with each successive birth of a new being, practice makes perfect, right?
It has been this layman’s/woman’s observation that many never ever get it right, or may even do great with their first and then goof up the rest of the siblings.
And I also believe that as difficult as being a parent can be at times it is well worth the effort, and many times there are no tangible rewards; only the fact that speaks well of them when you have personal knowledge that you have raised an independent loving capable human being, then that is definitely a tremendous award winner!
Characteristically children on the whole are enigmas unto their own unique personas.
Which is why I question with respect the one size fits all reasoning of child rearing and why a child behaves the way that they do at times.
It is tremendously fascinating to me that we as humans really know so little about ourselves or the ones we care about and their behaviors and motivation of why we may do what we do at any given time.
Does it interest you as well?
Have you ever people watched?
The least intrusive place to do this sort of observing is sitting in the middle of an enclosed mall; it can be quite enlightening. Try to watch, but don’t stare too long or you may creep someone out; utilize the time to examine what that person is doing and how, and perhaps where they may be heading in to what type of store. Try guessing their age and background or family origins. It may seem weird to some but examining people is a great way to understand characterizations for writing purposes; or just have some fun with imagining nothing real but a character to make come to life in your imagination or in a story that you have created.
Human behavior is very interesting and should be something that is never assumed to be alike at any given time for any two people.
That’s your tonight’s assignment, try observing someone without them knowing but in a public place, challenging, huh?
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Disappointed by plans falling through, but big girls don't cry!
We had planned to go to an Antique Show today at our events center, but when we got there, surprise, they were charging to go in! Everything else we had been to there had been free.
It was a nominal fee, just $12 bucks, but Hubby peeked around the corner to see what they had, and he said it looked a lot like a glorified garage or yard sale, and so we nixed the idea.
It’s not that we are cheap, although, recently I have found that most of the very wealthy are, and that is how they became so wealthy, but we are careful and frugal.
Instead we decided to spend our funds on a lunch out and we had intentions of trying a Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood that somehow we had missed.
But they nixed us since they were closed on Sundays!
And so we went to our safe choice the sports bar next door, Hubby had the slider plate and I had the Caesar with grilled chicken (At first I asked for shrimp, but they were out of shrimp, would you believe?), hmmm we both agreed that we made the right choice, until the bill came and it was all screwed up.
Apparently, they had new menus that did not jive with what had been fed into the computer, and so it was charging extra for things that on the menu were included, like Hubby’s cheese on his sliders and such. Once the server saw the mistake she corrected it immediately, and all was well, once again!
It appears that nothing was falling into sync, Hubby wanted to work on the seawall, but the tide came in. And we both would have loved to have gone to the library but ours are all closed now three days a week, Saturday through Monday. Nothing good was on the boob tube or if it was any good it was a rerun of something we already saw.
I suppose it was just one of those days, a mild Murphy’s Law day, not too terrible, just annoying.
Dinner was light since we finished my homemade Minestrone soup with garlic bread sticks that was just right!
On that pleasant thought note I will bid you all a very good night and count those blessings and we will too!

What could it be?
Our neighbor yelled across the canal to Hubby that he heard something scratching in his ceiling last night.
These little homes are built so minimalist that we don’t have attics, crawls or basements in them.
So to have the possibility of something making noise above your head during your precious sleep time is just plain weird or more than likely rodent induced.
Now you have unacceptable ones like rats and mice, and even a squirrel by some may be considered not that cute or loveable.
Personally at times I have thought each of those to be adorable, and or icky-poo too.
The mystery may never be solved.
We were fortunate when we heard that familiar scratching under my bathtub in my bathroom. Yes, we had all the tell-tale signs from holes in a dog food bag to chewing through a plastic container where the dog food had been put after, and then finally we fixed the problem by putting the dog food in our car in the garage with the windows rolled up!
Yep, we have experience with this problem, but at first we thought it could be our ghost coming back. We may of have had a haunting way back when our home had to be gutted after Hurricane Charley, and then oddities ensued.
I did consult a professional in the field of ghost busting, a local husband and wife team, and their report from our photo was inconclusive but interesting just the same, and left the door open for the possibility.
But in reality ours too was a rodent, a small rat or large mouse, either way, he or she was brazen, since we did have a cat! You would logically think he/she would have gone elsewhere?
Hubby put a live catcher on a shelf in my laundry room cupboard with bait. Since we were able to determine how the little gnawing darling managed to gain entry through the dryer vent! Hubby then installed that spray insulation, and figured that he/she were either caught in the garage or the laundry room, so traps were put in both.
The little critter was way smarter than you would have thought though since he/she managed to remove the food bait without setting off the traps!
This went on for weeks!
The last thing we wanted to do was to poison it since it could gain entry into our walls and could stink them up pretty fiercely if he/she was to die there, yuck!
We have heard stories of that; people having a disgusting odor emanating from somewhere but never quite being able to quite pinpoint it or having to cut open the wall to get it out when you could!
Our little fellow was brilliant until one day in the wee hours of the morning I heard Casey, the cat running around in our living room. He seemed to be having a heck of a good time!
It was then that I saw what had caught his fancy, our culprit Mister or Ms. Scratching noise maker, dog food eater, non-welcomed guest!
The rat/ mouse, running back and forth behind furniture, and Casey would corner him and just stare, and I screamed! That got Hubby’s attention out of a deep sleep!
He ran in and saw what all the commotion was about and got the broom out of the closet, opened the front door and swept the little interloper out!
He/she did not move for quite some time, and Hubby thought he may have killed it but within several hours it must have been just fine, since it was gone.
And you see that is why we have a bit of experience when it comes to four-legged little rodent type critters. I don’t know about the rest of you but I took to disinfecting any place I thought the little thing had come into contact with, and after all was said and done it was reassuring that he/she had just moved on and that we were not murderers.
On that note I will wish you all a good night and to all count your blessings and we will too!
Good night Mickey or good night Minnie!

The answer to the question is...
What’s the question, you ask?
Why did our electric bill go down when we had our heat on full force at seventy-seven degrees Fahrenheit for over two weeks?
The answer came in the mail today.
We are not magically besotted with an ability to cause utility bills or other high use bills to go down by wishing for it… We received, like all the rest of the Floridians on this particular carrier’s electric company’s client list a one time only fuel rebate of $ 92.60 on our bill for this month. Different discounted amounts were given by percentages of kilowatt use or it would have been much, much higher with my worries being realized for real!
Boy, did we all luck out or what?
The coldest weeks in the history in this state, and our power company, Florida Power and Light, AKA FPL, I should mention the nice guys, right decided to give us all a real break on our bills!
Thankfully, as I said last night the weather is now on the upswing and more to us Floridians liking.
I’m going to put my own question out here for all of you to muddle over, OK?
When you have offered something to someone have they right away wanted to know if they could pay you for it or barter with you to exchange something for it?
To me that was a wee bit awkward, when our neighbors did that since this had to do with an overabundance of our lettuce crop. I felt the need to share with our neighbors and family since it would go bad being there, and it is really way too much for just the two of us.
We have always given away our overages in crops; we did with our fruit to the seniors, work and strangers at the cultural center and also to even to one of Hubby’s old chum’s from work that had cattle we gave them our grapefruit when it was overripe.
Our lemons, that are of the Ponderosa variety, used to be a favorite of many family and friends, but still have not come back all the way from Hurricane Charley, but they are producing now, just not as many or as big as they once were, they used to be the size of grapefruit!.
I suppose I feel that the above items are gifts to all the people we offer them to, which means I never once offered them to them with expecting to receive anything in return.
But for some reason everyone was in a haggling mode, and I resisted and explained again that it will all go bad if someone doesn’t eat it.
Although, one persistent neighbor came over with self squeezed orange juice to trade, and so I upped the ante, besides lettuce, radishes I sent her home with also my homemade Minestrone soup and she took it since I insisted I had no room for her generous amount of orange juice container, which is the size of a gallon of milk! It was a done deal, and I believe all involved parties were satisfied with the outcome.
This morning I went for my last check up on my eye surgery and all was perfect! I don’t even have to come back for a year, and so all is well!
On that positive note I will wish you all a very good night and for you all to count your blessings and we will too!

A surprise, and a few informative emails
The last few weeks many may be wondering what the outcome of my concern was over getting a sky high heating bill that hasn’t materialized yet, like most of us with that extreme cold snap that we all went through.
And so a few days ago when I saw the power company coming around reading meters I decided to try to access our online electric company account, and that was yesterday, to plan for that scary possibility, and curtail any unnecessary additional spending.
You can only imagine how brave I was to do this frightening as the prospect was, since we have had some whoppers over the years when we have had extremes in either direction, too hot or too cold, both up north and since living here in the southland.
Knowledge is power (LOL, this is a power driven story, LOL again, I crack myself up!), any-who as we all know, forewarned allows one to accept the inevitable and to prepare accordingly, right?
So I have not ever been a shy shrinking violet in the arena of when it comes to any difficulties. I attack those head on and try to solve or dissolve any problems and nip them in the bud, so to speak that’s just the way I roll, what can I say?
And to say that I was taken aback by what the site that held that information had on it would be an extreme exaggeration to say the least! I know you are all waiting with baited breath with what I found out and I will tell you, but you must not be as shocked as I was, OK?
Because it doesn’t make any sense at all, since our thermostat was nearly all the time on seventy-seven degrees Fahrenheit. Are you ready for what I am about to say?
There is no rhyme or reason for why this happened; all I know is now the weather has neutralized and we are now back in a normal, for us, weather pattern mode…
OUR BILL WENT DOWN NEARLY TWENTY-NINE DOLLARS from the previous not too cold month, WOW! That means less, people, I know craaa zeee! I am waiting for the other metaphoric shoe to drop, as if it might be a mistake and the next bill will be twice as much… but that’s just me; sometimes my glass is half empty. Not going to think that way, sorry!
And these last few days have been so pleasant we haven’t needed heat or air-conditioning, with mid-seventies and very low humidity the windows have been open!
Amazing! All that un-necessary worrying for nothing! I wish the same for all of you!
I tell you folks if not, just come on down so you too can have lower utility bills!
And before the chamber tries to thank me again, you are very welcome, just kidding!
They have never ever thanked me for any of my positive spin ads for our sunny warm state.
Upward and onward I also wrote an email to the county extension to try and find a safe way and non-toxic for out rain barrels to not be a breeding ground for mosquitoes with the advent of the lovely change in the weather. Here is what they said that two tablespoons full of vegetable oil will keep the little suckers out; they apparently don’t like the slickness of it! How about that? It was so easy and Hubby already took care of it.
Good night to all, take care and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Well, I tried...
Last night was somewhat of a disappointment. Congratulations to the victor though, Scott Brown, a Republican.
Mr. Brown was interviewed this morning on the Today Show, probably just one of many, but it is the one I saw, and he insists that he believes that all Americans should have health care, and that the bill should be reworked or each state should take up the gauntlet and make their own provisions for insuring its own. When did we become the un-United States of America, was I napping?
He was, as I said before, against the current bill since his state already has 98% of his constituents covered in Massachusetts.
Well, the latest news is the president has decided to go back to the drawing board to rework the bill, what a coincidence, Mr. 41.
For those of you out of the loop of what I am referring to is that he makes the count now forty-one (Republicans) to fifty-nine (Democrats), now allowing for filibustering, the use of extreme dilatory(slowing) tactics in an attempt to delay or prevent action especially in a legislative assembly of the senate.
Interesting observation: Did you know that the 30 million uninsured is the same amount as the 10% of us 300 million Americans that are also unemployed?
Now most don’t make that correlation, and rightfully so, because, some who are not employed may have insurance, and some that are employed may not, got it?
I never took a civics class; at least I don’t remember one, that’s a disclaimer in case I got the above all wrong, sorry! But I am an American with a purpose here to survive, and I am saddened enormously by extremely healthy people or well insured people not getting it; that is all I am going to say about that for now. And I reserve the right to speak on this topic again at a later date, OK?
Today I got some this and that done early, even shampooed and vacuumed the living-room furniture, area rug, and guestroom couch and carpet too! That’s a lot for me.
Hubby worked hard on the seawall and got the framing done on his repair work, and even went to the home store for the cement for the repair, he used our boat trailer.
That thing was responsible for transporting most of our house parts after Hurricane Charley, handy thing, and almost never used for our boat which is up on our lift in the canal alongside our dock. It's hard to believe that they both will be seven years old this July.
Good night to all and to all count your blessings and we will too!
PS An aftershock in Haiti of 6.1 some are now saying only a 5.9, only? Wonder what they would think if their area got a 5.9, only? Sounds to me more like another earthquake, quick we should now consider where to send the people? Donate money, and watch the telethon on Friday night peeps!

Did you know...
In my opinion it is that most people who appose the Healthcare Bill, already have extremely good health care, and have no idea what any help in that arena could mean to the others who are, the have nots? Thirty million Americans are still not insured not to mention the ones who are under insured.
And by far that has always been the case; until a problem hits you personally you, the collective you I am referring to here, cannot understand why others may find the necessity to complain foul play!
I believe that there is an old adage or poem that refers to this:
I wasn’t concerned when they came for the man in the news, because I didn’t know him or what he believed.
I wasn’t interested when they came for the woman down the street since I was not of her religious persuasion.
I didn’t really care about it when they came for my neighbor since his rituals were always so strange to me.
Then they came for me, and that was not fair and I fought and cried! But no one was there for me.
Or some strange thing, I know I got this all mixed up but the finale is the same and means the same.
The point is if we as humans aren’t directly affected many of us are sadly that selfish not to care.
And I had such high hopes for our human race!
Please people don’t allow for the wrong person to be put into the senatorial office in Massachusetts! We need for Ted Kennedy’s legacy to go on! Vote like you are one of the minority who needs you to care! Put yourself in their shoes.
If the republicans win; we underdogs lose.
Is it better to become a burden to the system in other ways, or should we all just die early so we vanish from your view and pretend we never existed?
And mark my words many of the under insured, pre-existing non insurable, or non insured will die.
Americans where is your compassion?
The senators of the Republican Party have great insurance but no hearts.
It amazes me that the apposing party, Democrats, who is also that fortunate to have excellent coverage can also have compassionate hearts, why is this?
Perhaps it is that they have remembered who they are representing, ones who cannot speak for themselves, the down trodden, and the ones who also have the privilege to vote for them or vote them out!
So I plead with you people of Massachusetts, do what you know is right continue to progress not retrogress! Vote another democrat into Teddy’s senatorial position he’s watching and that is what he would have wanted, really!
Good night to all and to all up in MA vote your conscience and compassionate souls, and you won’t be sorry! Count those blessings and we will too!

Good night to all and to all up in MA vote your conscience and compassionate souls, and you won’t be sorry! Count those blessings and we will too!

It does seem that a quieter day always follows a busy or aggravating one...
This morning I realized that we needed to get back to our Beall’s Outlet to return my Hubby’s jeans, his did not fit right, but his were too long, not too small. Most all of his life, and I have known this man since 1967, and his size has been the same in jeans 32X32. Now it wasn’t his tummy that grew like so many of his age, oh no, it was that they were too long; he shrunk like the rest of us older people can do and he now is wearing 32X30, not too bad! Or more than likely it could be a manufacturers sizing difference.
I personally have shrunk three inches, maybe more? So I thought maybe he did too.
No one has been allowed to measure me or weigh me in maybe three years, not knowing is bliss knowing may be painful, and my clothes still fit.
We left the house around eleven thirty A.M. and took care of the return and I also got a nighty, which is a very pretty cotton one in blue and white gingham. Today was the 15% off day, every Monday is, for us, the fifty and over crowd.
I drove my scooter through the parking lot and Hubby took the car to the golden arches on the other end.
He ordered a Big Mac and fries and I ordered two grilled chicken wraps, and we both enjoyed our meals. I know you all are saying, why two Tobi?
Well, I never tried them before and they looked rather small in the picture, and besides they were only $1.49 each and so I thought that was proof that they must be?
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, OK?
The rest of the day transpired with very little fanfare or difficulty, and that was just about all anyone could ask for.
I must admit that about a week or so ago I heard from an old friend that recently moved back here from her home in the mid-west.
She was the one who taught the writer’s workshop I first took way back when, a retired college English professor; do I attract the brainiacs or what?
But she is a doll in every way, not a mean bone in her body and I was thrilled to hear from her, and we will probably be getting together soon, I hope.
Unfortunately, she and I have similar mobility problems, but we will see… where there is a will there is always a way!
On that pleasant note I will wish you all a very good night and to take care, count your blessings and we will too!

Up and down sort of day!
The day started out rather annoying since an old friend of mine from my writing group wrote on my Facebook account, actually probably hers and it was copied to mine, a quote from an author I found to be racist, and on all weekends this one, of Martin Luther King’s birthday!
So I basically tore into her thinking perhaps she wasn’t aware of the author’s horrible use of the ‘N’ word in her writings, which I found extremely offensive, and I am not even an African American, but as a human being on this planet!
It is true that the author was of another generation who wrote back in the 1920’s when people used horrendous terminologies when describing people of all different races.
And no one ever heard of the term politically correct then.
But I did try and read her stories since people had said how wonderful an author she was.
I even ordered her books from our local library, and they had trouble finding some titles that I was told I should read, but all in all after several weeks they had, and I did read some but found my self cringing at the use of such language, and so I returned the books and told them why.
So that’s why I could not believe that someone who was so smart, a previous member of Mensa, would not know that about this author.
But she insisted that the woman author was not a racist and she only found one instance for the ‘N’ word being used, well once is too much in my opinion, right?
Any-who we went back and forth in emails most of the morning and I think by now we are no longer friends, oh well, me and my big mouth and firm convictions!
Who wants to be friends with a person who doesn’t understand what racism is.
The day actually got better after that aggravating morning for we had been invited to our neighbors across the canal for dinner, delicious meal, great company, and we had a marvelous time!
And that is why I am so late writing tonight because we just got home.
So I will be cutting this short because I am blissfully tired.
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Doing something is better than doing nothing?
That title could be considered provocative in so many ways of its interpretation, don’t you think?
But as you all know I am simpler than that.
And besides in this particular case I am referring to going out into the world just to get out of the house, and we left shortly after ten A.M.
And today we did accomplish that straightforward task.
Although we also had a few errands to attend to as well, the check for the overage in our escrow account arrived yesterday and so we deposited that on our way out to the Home and Garden show at our local event’s center in River City AKA, Punta Gorda, translation Fat Point.
A short trek, over the bridge and around the corner actually.
All the usual suspects were involved; everyone from roof systems to windows to doors and every house part you could possibly think of in between were there to show and hopefully sell you their beloved products.
You would have every whim or desire fulfilled since they were represented and realized as well, since even the non essentials such as swimming pools, spas, and other non absolute necessarily needed extras. Although here in Florida expect those items to be a part of the complete home package and helpful in any possible resale’s.
We spent about an hour there and left to go on to Fishville AKA Fisherman’s Village, to see if they were having anything going on, they were not. The next big thing there will be an Art Show at the end of the month; we will more than likely go to that too.
We did go once around the whole place and noticed some new shops and stopped for lunch at the Italian restaurant there, but neither of us had Italian food. Hubby had a cheese steak, and I had a tuna sandwich and a cup of their soup. I did find mine tasty, but Hubby did not, and the service was not that great either; we had quite a long wait for those items.
Any-who from there we headed home but had four more stops on the way, for gas, for two grocery items, Hubby stopped at our local discount liquor, and the last was the convenience store on our corner, we were home before two P.M., wild ones as we are!
Now here’s for another interpretation of that title I blatantly exposed to the world this evening… Let’s think what other possibilities this doing something instead of doing nothing could actually mean in the broader spectrum of potential meanings…
Volunteering to help anyone or anything that appears to have major needs in the world, donating monies even in small amounts is better than just complaining that no one else seems to get it right. Getting involved in local government to change things for the betterment of you and yours as well as the bigger picture of the community in which you all live, therefore again coming back to you anyway!
Realizing commonalties within your own small world when we hear the desperation of others, and with that being able to relate and express compassion and a unique understanding from personal experience.
I’m done, thinking hard hurts! LOL
Thoughts to ponder, and hopefully act upon, on that persuasive note I will wish you all a good night, take care and count those blessings and we will too!

Another sign and another quiet warmer day...
Today, I am finally back on track with this Blog anyway, I had another crafty idea.
This one was in juxtaposition due to the previous welcome sign of a week ago.
When one or two of us welcome our guests to our homes we should also remember to say goodbye too, right?
As we get older, the memory does seem to forget quite a lot of stuff, and it is not unusual in the haste or sadness of a guest to your dwelling may very well not realize how much you appreciated their visit, true?
And so, I felt the need to make another sign expressing those feelings for all the peeps that may stop by. This one is brief and to the point, “Good-bye and So-Long,” for those who prefer farewell, did you know that ‘so long’, circa 1854, means the same thing? But unfortunately, I am out of ‘E’s’, again! I even had to cut an ‘F’ to make another ‘L’, would you believe?
To express my sadness I even took to using the circular wooden pieces and made two faces, like smiley faces and painted them yellow and drew on frowns with sad eyes and even tears by using a black Sharpie. This one is shaped on a round eleven inch board Hubby cut from wood we had, more recycling, and it is over the front door to look at when you exit, but I bet you all knew that.
The color palette this time was bright orange, yellow, and apple green with a white background; it looks a little like another eye chart for Optic Neuritis, the welcome sign was in pink, blue, white and purple with the same dotted affect.
I enjoy color it’s so cheerful; don’t you think?
These mini projects keep me out of trouble and happy to see the results, which is tangible evidence that I still have something in my head, other than junk, OK?
Besides who knows when people find these little silly signs of mine in an archaeological dig in a hundred or two hundred or more years from now they may think how pleasant a race we humans were?
Our weather was worth bragging rights again today. We had upper seventies again with low humidity; windows were open again of course. It’s so nice to be able to turn off the heat these last two days and air out our home! This electric bill is sure to be a whopper; it seems that up until yesterday it was going full force for all these horribly cold days.
I hope we don’t get sticker shock.
Hubby is slowly fixing the sea wall, but it is quite a job and the cold did interfere, and with his bad back slower is better. He has been reading avidly on his breaks, more than me I must admit. I am still not back to that voracious reading mode that I was in before. My eye is still healing and gets tired but I have been reading articles in our magazines more thoroughly. Those drops that I am putting in are prednisone, an antibiotic and an anti inflammatory, three to four times a day, the one is done after today though but the other two are till they are gone, all topical drops.
Good night to all and please take care, count those blessings and we will too!

In response to Anonymous, and so much more...
First of all I would love to say how flattered I was to find out that someone finally made a comment on my Blog! That I am NOT talking to myself afterall…relief! (Actually I have had others but it was usually from family.)
I suppose I should write some more controversial animal remarks, but little did I know that learning the name of a certain behavior would actually catch someone’s attention and be debatable, and silly me I was so thrilled to be able to do that!
Below is the email that I received bright and early this morning:
“Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Bichon Buzz and did you see the one about...":
This running like a crazy man actually does have a name. It has for many years known as the Bichon blitz.
Have fun with your guy.”
After careful research I found that both names were correct!

And no I don’t have to be ALWAYS right, just when it is right; why not express that? And in this case it is just a compromise anyway, because we are both correct.
Please peeps I hope that I receive bunches of comments I think this is great!
Now on to other things…
Yesterday, sorry lately I seem to be always a day behind with this, must be because of surgery day, any-who yesterday was my follow-up surgery appointment at 10 A.M. fortunately it was at their local office only maybe fifteen minutes away from home, to our north.
Well, again we were on time and this time it was vaguely frighteningly familiar entering the office waiting room where over twenty or more seats were filled with warm bodies and practically standing room only, but somehow when you enter with a walker bodies move, even the elderly in better shape than me do! But that is beginning to sound redundant since everyone there was older than me! I went to the desk first to sign in and shyly asked if my doctor was on schedule, and I was assured he was since two doctors were there!
For that mob scene went through my mind but I swear I didn’t say it out loud at least I don’t think so, Hubby was still parking the car he had dropped me off at the front door after getting out to open it for me. Gee, you would think that these medical offices would have automatic ones, doors that is; where’s the true use of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act, which guarantees easy access to most buildings) when you need it? Not even a push lever.
But me being me I once again tried for the impossible, two seats together for Hubby and me to be at least within shouting distance, although he prefers I don’t do that, no fun sometimes! LOL, I tell you my filter is gone and fear of saying things is all gone now!
In reality the wait wasn’t as long as I would have thought if I tucked my head in and took off in lacking patience to wait mode. Maybe it was a half hour or so.
Once brought into the back an eye tech examined me, and said that I will be using topical drops, three different ones that all were for different reasons, and had to be put in 3 to 4 times a day, and she also gave me a chart to keep track! Now with all those ingested pills, of a seven count on them; I had more to keep track of, wow! This could be very confusing, but it was literally plotted out in black and white on the paper print out she gave me. And let’s not forget my normal dry eye drops for dear old righty!
I am proud to say that so far so good, and these new topical eye drops are only temporary, thankfully! I have another follow-up appointment next Friday.
The young woman tech did such a great job, she did examine the eye and everything I thought I was free to go, but no, doc was going to check my eye too, how thorough of them! PS the one antibiotic eye drop was going to be a paid for at the pharmacy one, but they were nice enough to give me a sample, see if you don’t ask, you don’t get, and I did ask.
Speaking of that asking business …Monday, I called our mortgage company and we are also receiving our escrow overage payment back too, nearly four hundred bucks! And our payment went down forty-one cents, I know, big deal! But every little bit counts and helps, we do have other bills. And today I called the cell phone company and asked them to remove the texting and email features since we don’t use them and we were recently getting charged for unsolicited incoming ones! And they did take them off and took five bucks off of our bill too! How about that folks?
But then we did try to spend some today; that is donate it to the Red Cross (redcross.org) for the victims of the Haiti Earthquake, and the computer screwed up after I gave it all my information, and so I tried again by land line, 1-800- REDCROSS, and the lines were so busy I never got through, but I will try again tomorrow, maybe you will too? Couldn’t hurt and I am very sure ten bucks or more could really help!
Lastly, we had our windows open today…finally it was joyously in the mid seventies, with very low humidity! How glorious was that? And from tomorrow on we will be getting more of the same, but some days a few showers here and there, but we will take that!
Good night to all and to all take care, be well, and count those blessings and we will too!

I'm back...
Howdy peeps!
We are going to be having almost normal temps by the end of this week, hooray!
Rumor has it that we may be seeing high seventies by Friday, wow!
Yesterday was my simple cataract surgery.
And to say that the experience was unique would be somewhat of an understatement.
We arrived at the surgery center, with ten minutes to spare, the trip to south Fort Myers took over an hour and the waiting room was teaming with activity … it seemed many patients were there to have something repaired or fixed, PS this is one of those specialty surgery centers only for eyes.
I was taken aback by the quantity of people throughout the holding area, a bumper crop of patients, and I appeared to be the youngster in the group.
Sure enough, one after another as they repeated their date of birth, 1925, 1934, 1937, 1946 etc, etc, etc into infinity it appeared! I was the kid, since my year is 1950!
Before I take you through the next step of my surgery experience let me just give you a little taste of the trip down there. We left at 11:00 A.M. and took the interstate I75 south to exit 136 then a zig and few zags and we were there.
Along the way, not on the highway mind you, but there on that major roadway it did seem that most must of them had very important appointments to get to since the speed limit was not set high enough for them; where’s a cop when you need one?
Any-who, once off that speedway we entered the congestion of the outskirts of one of the local most populous cities, Fort Myers; in the old days this was quite the sleepy little hamlet, but has grown by leaps and bounds since!
On the side roads to my vision improvement we noticed how many were actually texting and speaking on their cells phones while behind the wheel.
Now I speak from experience when I say that is not safe!
Back in 1994 when I was a district manager for an international environmentally safe products company and traveled 3000 miles a month in the state of Florida to five different stores in five different counties I had an accident on the entrance road to I95, and guess what folks I was speaking on my cell and it was my fault! Fortunately no one was hurt seriously including me, but the car, my Saturn, a year old was damaged so severely, I destroyed one third of its value, with its smashed in front end. And it took ages to repair, and cost me a fortune, since I had to rent a car for work for months, longer than my insurance covered, which cancelled me and so I had to get insurance on the rental! So I do know.
Back into my enticing journey in to the sighted world….after I was asked the magic questions of a most personal nature, height, weight, DOB, and illnesses on a fill in page.
The wait was still quite a while, and this has always confused me since we made sure we were on time but no doctors ever are, you notice that? We arrived at 12:10, ten minutes early from my 12:20 scheduled appointment, and yet it was after one by the time Hubby and I parted company, I was going in to be prepped for surgery, but he couldn’t come in and neither could my new stone jewelry, necklace and earrings, and I thought since it was a no, no on makeup and it was, but they wrote that hearing aids were OK! See my confusion, earrings are not that dissimilar to hearing aids in weight and consistency, what
a dilemma, but easily rectified, since I had brought a baggie in case that was the case and it was, got it?
Once behind the ominous door within the no turning back realm, I was taken to a gurney that for some reason appeared to be way too narrow to hold me, but oddly enough it did.
It had an abnormal rounded out section with what looked liked a blue terry towel on it with metal structures on either side, one could only assume head holds? I used my walker to do this project and the nurses aided me in getting situated upon this odd looking bed of torture?
Different for me anyway, I suppose others may have been familiar with this type of gurney and believe me I have seen quite few, but this was definitely unique.
The medicas, a new word ala Tobi, female medical personnel hooked me up with grace and diligence to oxygen, a blood pressure cuff, and a pre tap needle for the IV for the actual surgery anesthesia, I was blanketed and left there like a piece of meat on a slab.
The room filled quickly with other victims waiting also to be cut up; they’re must have been ten or twelve beds.
As quickly as they filled they were rolled out to who knows where, since I don’t actually remember leaving the room just receiving the happy juice, and then we were all done!
And I was alive; you ask how did I know? I woke up sillies!
The last nurse gave me and Hubby instructions for after care, while I was being also given apple juice and a blueberry muffin it was 2:30 and I could see the clock! Hubby had had a big Mac and read a book while he waited.
The nicest touch was the mug that had Eye Health on it and under that, “each patient is a valued guest” with flowers in it that were mums and carnations that matched my blouse in purple, how thoughtful. I sort of felt bad that I only have one more eye to do. It had turned out to be a rather nice place to visit.
On that note I will bid you all a good night and to all count those blessings and pray for all those Haitians and help them if you can! We will.

In search of an appropriate blouse, and most of our crop...
When my surgery was scheduled last Thursday for tomorrow they requested that I wear a button down blouse so that they could hook up a heart monitor to me during surgery, for my eye!
Well, they will be giving me anesthesia but not the knock you out cold kind; the twilight sleep kind, and some people could possibly have an odd or violent reaction. I believe it may very well be similar to the type I had when I had my basilar thumb arthritis joint replacement surgery back in August 2001, and I did react when I got home with a case of vicious vomiting, not that good a feeling, believe me! And so when they called earlier today about tomorrow I mentioned that and now they will be putting stomach medication in the IV, great!
PS With general anesthesia I am just ducky with no problems at all! This will be my fourteenth surgery! I am a pro, and in a way happy to be over that superstitious ‘13’, answer to all medicos question, “how many surgeries have you had?” Now I will be able to say, just the number ‘fourteen’.
Back to the blouse; the reason we had to go for a search for it is because at this enormous size clothes shopping has become more of a burden than a joy, which is what it was when I was a thin clothes horse. And I did check and no, I did not have any button down blouses that fit or were suitable for tomorrow’s criteria.
And so we went over to Bealls Outlet, Monday is the 15% off for fifty and over crowd and my punch card was also complete for an additional 20% off too!
So Hubby found a pair of jeans, and I found black sweat pants for 70% off at $3.90, not counting the additional discounts at the register, my ordered ones had not yet arrived and it is still so cold, and an adorable eggplant colored button down blouse with three quarter length sleeves. A multi colorful stone jewelry set with matching necklace and earrings and purple in its palette was the perfect Nuevo look I have seen all over the arts and crafts fairs, but at a much better price and it screamed at me at the register. With nearly twelve bucks off the whole shebang was only $28.29; what a deal!
Oddly enough when we got home the blouse didn’t fit, and so after lunch we exchanged it for one that did, and when we got back from that my other ordered pants had arrived! No one can have too many black pants; can one?
Sadly, with this horrid cold it may be that our veggie garden, in spite of all Hubby’s gallant efforts to save it, it may be a total loss! Only time will tell for sure, we both hope not!
Good night to all and please stay warm and hug your loved ones tight, body heat, you know? But really, keep close, and heat will expound!
Count those blessings and we will too!

Bichon Buzz and did you see the one about...
Many of you who may read this Blog regularly, I hope that you do, anyway, you may know that we have a Bichon Frise, who is an all white curly haired lap dog, which is what his breed name means in translation, and his name is Skipper who will be six years old in March.
But how many of you who may also have Bichons know that the racing around the room or outside is called the Bichon Buzz? Copy and paste this site if interested in more info:
http://www.all-about-bichon-frises.com/bichon-buzz.html
We used to call it his ‘Greyhound mode’, because he is that fast and circles several times, but he looks nothing like a Greyhound at all.
Well, we have been wondering what to make of it all these years since we have met other Bichon owners who stated their little darlings also did that odd behavior periodically throughout the day. And it wasn’t until we took that quick brisk run to that too cold car show that I met someone who took their little Bichon there, ours was home in warmth, and I asked again to make conversation over our liking and having the same breed dogs.
Theirs was also a male but just a year old, and named Rascal, oddly enough the same name as our son’s cat.
Just the name alone is telling that perhaps he too was up to this racing around the house and yard and all furniture, doodads, remote control sailboats be damned if they be in the way; and you should watch out too! And sure enough theirs also was a definite on that display regularly and they are the ones that finally put the name to it, why on earth had no others?
It is not a mean spirited behavior in our Skipper’s case anyway, for he does seem very joyous and happy with himself, and when I admonish him to stop or slow down at least, he does appear offended by my bizarre reaction to his fun as if he were a human child just trying to have some harmless self imposed entertainment.
But he has been known to bounce off walls and coffee tables alike!
My only fear is not for the walls or the coffee table, but for him getting injured.
We had to move Hubby’s hobby remote control sailboat into the guest room for safety, since it had been displaced on its easel in the sunroom with its controller, which is in the cabinet above this computer armoire; that’s still here and still safe.
This weather that I did try hard not to discuss tonight, since I suppose we are all in the same boat; we watched movies, did some laundry and called in for some take out Chinese food, which does deliver!
We started watching the mini series Taken last night; so far we have finished off discs one and two. For those of you not familiar with the premise it is about alien invasions and we being taken for who knows what reasons, over many, many years, Roswell New Mexico, Vegas, Illinois and elsewhere are all part of the backdrop locations as well. It starts out in WWII, and we have just finished, so far 1970. It’s a Spielberg, and has familiar cast members from other things, so we are enjoying it.
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!

How cold are we, really?
Ha! I just hit enter and entered my title all alone again for the first time in months I do believe.
My mind was elsewhere I suspect. This severe cold that has attacked the world is something to be reckoned with, and I imagine will too be blamed on global warming once again, a hole in the ozone layer causing all these record breaking temperatures!
Did you know that it was flurrying and sleeting in Orlando today?
And that us, three hours further south Floridians are looking to tonight to go down into the twenties?
What the heck is going on?
And here I really thought that the end of mankind and woman kind was going to be by burning up from the sun getting too much exposure from that notorious hole, not that we would freeze to death!
Earlier on IM I spoke to our old neighbor in Jersey and they too are in the twenties right now, but dropping to the teens tonight. Yesterday, I checked on my order of black sweat pants from Hanes, and the operator was in North Carolina and they had temperatures in the teens yesterday; in the Carolinas!
Well, Hubby did all he could on protecting our crops again, fruits as well as veggies.
Today was the type of day that just begged for homemade soup and so I made some corn chowder, since my two week diet does not allow raw veggies or even shellfish! Dinner was pot roast ala pressure cooker, adding humidity to our overly heated very dry home.
The email wires too were busy with electronic communications from hither and yon, proving to me that nearly all of my family and friends peeps were staying logically within their dwellings; how apropos!
My sign of welcome was hung today in our foyer over the door across from our entry, but tomorrow it will come down to get an additional border of trim to give it, in my mind, a more finished look. We found leftover trim/edging from another project and it appears to be just the right size.
Indoor projects, games, movies, what-have-you are a great way to beat the winter blahs; this is crazy to even say that here in the Sunshine State!
We should be wearing flip flops and bathing suits, boating, fishing, swimming and shelling; this is sooooooooooo wrong!
Why oh mighty powerful one why oh why….Al Gore, tell me why?
Snowing in Europe for the first time in thirty years, the coldest we have been in Florida for the first time in over twenty! Craaaa zeeee!
My heat is set high and is electric; we cannot take the cold anymore, no more blood in our veins, please we need some sunshine, did I mention that it was raining again today in our dry season? So sad and dull were the skies I had to put on a light to see inside! This is so wrong my friends, you betcha!

He's back... a little crafty, and a few things to straighten out,OK?
First of all for the evening I would very much like to straighten out the people that keep sending me spam emails about training for jobs, and financial aid. We need neither; our income is sufficient, and our home bills are paid monthly on time or early, thank you very much, including our mortgage! The only problem I have is receiving medical insurance and that is NOT because we cannot afford the premiums, I would love to pay some, really! It is because I am pre-existing and no one will cover me! Hubby is insured. It is true we are on a set income, but it is enough for our financial needs, and we are not considered poor by any standards! So people who send those things for me to work and get training, and to save our home… I don’t need to get a job unless I want to buy ridiculous things, and our home is fine and paid for monthly like everyone else’s with a mortgage or even you renters, thank you very much! So STOP now!
Besides I no longer drive due to my medications causing me to get dizzy, and I feel that is a benefit to all on the roads, and I did work for thirty-two years while raising our sons; I paid my dues. The only job I would accept is for this Blog to be turned into a book, or any other writing position. But remember I do on occasion write for the paper, for free, and I have been published in a book, also for free. But payment in the writing field that I could do from here at my home I may consider if they were any legitimate offers that can be checked out appropriately.
The he’s back reference is to our Great Blue Heron, and would you believe he was standing in the middle of our pond! He was on the netting fortunately, and apparently could not get at the fish, thankfully!
Now to my craftiness…another sign, another bunch of “E’s used”, it is an indoor welcome sign stating, “HOPE LIVES WELCOME TO” our real names home.
Oh you mean to tell me you didn’t know that Tobi and Hubby weren’t our real names? LOL
The HOPE is written as the artist Robert Indiana would do, who is quite famous by his body of work: copy and paste his sites to see more info: http://www.farnsworthmuseum.org/exhibition/robert-indiana-and-star-hope

Stay warm peeps!
Good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!
PS To anyone who was wondering about Hubby’s easy chair, I am proud to say it has healed! Thanks to an additional dabbing the remaining slight red wine stains with white vinegar and using the wet/dry vac again to pull the dampness out!

Ooops... one doctor too many!
Today I had my tummy doc appointment, and he feels I need to have an endoscopies’ procedure since I could possibly have a blockage in my esophagus due to my vomiting. He also said that since my last colonoscopy was way back in 2001 and I had a few polyps then that were removed that I should have another one of those too. And he is willing to work with me at the Medicare price for the two procedures at only two thousand dollars!
What to do, what to do, we can’t afford another large expenditure now, but if I wait can I afford to?
In the meantime he said try to stop eating roughage, in other words raw veggies and fruits, darn…my favs!
And to take the purple pill boxed stomach medicine, but it takes a while to kick in, unlike my chewy complete ones!
This has not been a too feeling good day.
My muscle spasms have gone berserk attacking in most all of my lacking true muscular body, and I consumed a few of my antispasmodic medication pills today for the first time in quite some-time. I think it is mostly caused by the contrast in the temperatures that we had to deal with today!
It is usually difficult sitting in this upright position to write due to my hips, but right now it is a wee bit more, since my tummy is still not so good although I did take that purple pill around four hours ago!
So I might very well be calling it a night sooner rather than later…
Yep, I think I will bid you all a good night now so I can retreat to my lounge chair which is easier on my hips and belly issues.
Count your blessings and we will too!

Resolutions in a different way...
I am more than sure that everyone out there does know that resolutions are also ways to solve problems, not just a promise to oneself to be better at this or that on the New Year, right?
That’s what my tonight’s chosen title is actually about.
We all know how hard I have been trying to get my medical issues resolved, true?
Now with not trying to be too redundant in my explanations I will tell you what has recently transpired as of today.
I returned to my new ophthalmologist office, and have resolved the concern over how to pay for my cataract surgery, which was also today resolved and scheduled for next Tuesday!
It seems that there is relief for us of the falling between the cracks peeps, which means lost within the health care system, a company called Care Credit gives people who are approved; interest free loans for a certain term of months and amounts. So I was accepted for a 24 month payment plan at just $78 to pay off the $1877 left eye surgery that will now be lovingly called my reading eye, since I have decided on the mono vision lens that is within our budget. Actually, we were approved for more than twice that, but I worry for any upcoming possibilities. I call it wiggle room.
My right eye, although bad according to the doc I can still see out of it for distance with my glasses just fine, but lefty is a goner forever; or at least until next Tuesday!
Then after that was arranged we stopped at the giant discount store, for odds and ends.
And finally home where I received my other phone call of resolve.
You see, I have a long history of stomach disorders, going back into my twenties actually, and I took a chance this morning and I called my old Gastroenterologist to see if perhaps he would be willing to wheel and deal on his office visit prices, which I had no idea what they were without insurance since I had not gone to him since I was uninsured; the last three and a half years.
And guess what his wonderful nurse called me back and said that he was willing to see me for less than the monthly charge on my eye surgery, and so I am scheduled for tomorrow late morning!
See there is more than one way to get your resolutions resolved, huh?
On that confusing note I will bid you all a very good night and to all count those blessings and I will too!

The threat is still on...
Ours is only the continued threat of freezing for four more nights, which so far here in south west Florida somehow we have been able to escape thankfully!
In spite of the inclement weather; too cold to believe, only highs in the low fifties!
We did manage to take care of business, and we accomplished all errands set for today’s schedule.
The warehouse store was a major choice for the day’s journey for water at 32 bottles for just $4.48 in the thinner recyclable material that even if it doesn’t go where they say it will it will still decompose, and so we bought two of those, and gasoline for our car to fill up. Which is usually cheaper by five to ten cents a gallon less than the other road shops, but it was just our luck by our late morning arrival it had just gone up by five cents a gallon! Although the other stations probably too went up, but for some reason on our way home I forgot to check.
Then on to the home store for house plants and potting soil, yeah!
We did find a bunch of my all time enduring favorites, dracaena, schefflera, ivy, a couple of succulents, and a Boston fern filled out the home pots waiting for them, very pretty and oh what oxygenation! They are currently all planted and scattered here and there according to their light needs. Hubby even gave me a spare sprayer to use as a mister for the Boston, and I painted the recycled bottle with my acrylic non toxic paint in a very pretty apple green.
We also stopped first thing to pick up some wine at our discount liquor store.
And tonight my co-ordination was way off again as I put my red wine Lucite glass on the coaster between our two easy chairs I looked over to admire the new look I made to the foyer table with my wooden Toucan, ceramic butterfly, and bee candle holders with a colorful mini print in the center I knocked over my glass and sprayed the entire, well not the entire, but most of the glass of RED WINE at my Hubby’s matching easy chair that's in off white ribbed cotton , and I screamed and went to work with a bottle of club soda and upholstery cleaner, and Hubby went to the garage for his wet dry shop vac. Together, we did the best we could, several times, and all we have to do now is pray that it is all gone.
Hubby is resting his derriere on white towels over the damp remainder of our cleaning efforts. I hope it will heal.
Foolishly, I have attempted another glass of red wine while I write tonight, but it is in the sunroom on the very wide top of this desk on a coaster, oh darn, yes I have spilled things on this too including this keyboard, but I promise I will try to be more careful!
And this Cabernet is so good, really!
With that true confession I will bid you all a very good night, and to all count those blessings and I will too!

Heron country once again! And the fickle pickle was at it again!
Where do Great Blue Heron’s eat?
Anywhere they want to………..but here!
Fortunately, our netting, but not our cheesy pink plastic flamingoes saved our remaining fishies! That thing about heron’s being territorial I suppose does not have anything to do with fighting pink plastic flamingoes for their property or eateries, dinning facilities… you get the picture.
He has been here at least three times today, which is the first time in ages that we have seen him. Many fish have probably found warmer waters, and so he may very well be desperate.
Our cold snap is still snapping away, although tonight is the first night that doesn’t threaten to freeze, but tomorrow night may. It’s so nice to be at least prepared for the worst. I know, in reality who wants anything in life to be the worst? We sure don’t.
But as possibilities go, cold weather being colder, is not as bad as many other things that run through this hyper active brain stormer of mine. I have so much imagination I could put an imagineer (Disney guy) out of business! But my ideas are either way off track and many are not even close probabilities.
Some are dream based others may be some irrational fears, and others are just creative justifications, none are ever drug induced unless cholesterol or blood pressure meds cause hallucinations? Mind creations or ideas can be fascinating when they are not at all boring, and most of mine are not, boring that is.
Did I tell you I started my own greeting card business again, well not really a business, just manufacturing cards for family and friends no income involved, darn, the hard copy type (I still had a lot of card stock and envelopes left from years ago, ergo the cards don’t cost me anything and yet I search my clip art for PICS, and my logo is two feet! I know I call it: ‘Put my two feet in’, publishing, get it, a nosey-body sticking your two feet in; like putting your two cents in the personal business of people?) I send the cards out snail mail. I do know that the US Post Office is dying a slow death; we all, shop and pay our bills online. So I feel like I am doing a major service giving the guys and gals called postal workers something to deliver! And I still have quite a few forever stamps left… so why not?
And because of them I have no idea how much it is to mail a regular card these days, do you?
Since I mentioned my card publishing I thought I better tell on myself…remember how cold I thought my cousin was sending me notification of my uncle’s death by email, and so I felt an email note was a proper way to respond…I sort of decided I would send a hard copy of a more appropriate sympathy card and so I made one and sent it out today.
Of course mine are so much more personal than the store bought ones, but this time I was more sympathetic and tried to make him feel that he did all he could for his dad, which is true. He moved his dad nearby him when he felt that his dad wasn’t doing so well so far away, and I told him so. Any-who, who knows what will come of our relationship.
Right now it is fifty-fifty that it could go either way, only time will tell.
Well, on that revelation I will bid you all a good night and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Brrrrrrrr....cold enough for you?
Tonight I do mean the temperatures and they are a falling once again!
I told you I thought that we in the southland had laws against this sort of thing!
But noooooooooooooo here we go again, almost as if we were jealous of you northerners and your cold stuff, i.e. your air temps; but not me by any means. I much prefer our warmth, twelve months a year, thank you very much!
To our good we never did make it down to freezing although we were prepared, as warned. Tonight and tomorrow night are supposed to be just as threatening, where am I? Did I fall back into New Jersey during a horrible weather freeze dream/nightmare?
Nothing personal New Jersians, but that is one of the major reasons we left twenty-three and a half years ago, too cold winters, causing severe hibernation modes, aching backs from shoveling out, and nearly frostbite in places we no longer have to worry about, since here we can expose all extremities whenever we care to, due to our usual warmth.
I must say the heat is getting a work out, which I cannot remember needing to use for this length of time in years, no make that never! Our daytime highs were in the mid-fifties today, another unheard of weirdo experience. According to the Weather Channel reports for the balance of this week… it’s a total non ‘come on down’, commercial for our highs will only reach up into the mid-sixties towards the end of the week and then plummet once again to the mid-fifties!
Hubby even drained the solar panels on our roof, and closed down all outdoor valves!
Charlie, our 30 year old Cockatiel has now been moved into our dinning area out of our sunroom, which has turned out to be the coolest at night, would you believe the sunroom?
During the day it does do a great job of spreading it’s warmth throughout our space, which is like a great room that encompasses our living room dinning and kitchen without walls and the sunroom is off the kitchen. Do you have a mental picture of the set up?
Our bedrooms are off the hallway to the left of the space with one bath, and the other bath is off the sunroom, the laundry-room is off the foyer, and has a door into the garage;all very nicely stream-lined for easy access.
We did venture out to the park in River City, AKA Punta Gorda, translation Fat Point, there was a car, truck, motorcycle show there today, along the Peace River but it was way too cold to stay, but we did manage to go once around the displays.
On that note I will wish all a good night and to all count those blessings and we will too!

Cold and colder...
Our weather is dipping into, dare I say, the thirties tonight!
And we are taking appropriate action to protect our crops!
Hubby built a frame out of PVC pipe, and will put the coverings on that, well I meant Hubby is. I am no help at all on this type of project, due to my inability to stay upright when the task calls for it; balance issues, Ataxia.
And this concludes the cold part of tonight’s Blog.
Now for the colder part…my uncle passed away on New Year’s Eve,(here in Florida my cousin moved him here, two blocks from him, on December 11th) sad but he was 94, and had a heart attack recently. The colder part is the way I was told, by email!
And this from my cousin just a half hour away in Venice, he’s the teacher I speak about often, and what is worst, the funeral is just for the immediate family.
I wasn’t quite clear on the actual meaning of that all these years, but I did finally look it up: immediate family:
“ A spouse, parents and grand parents, children and grand children, brothers and sisters, mother in law and father in law, brothers in law and sisters in law, daughters in law and sons in law. Adopted and step members are also included in immediate family. See also first degree relative.” Thanks to the Business dictionary.
And so me being me, I remembered what had occurred when my Mom died way back in 1982 when I was just 31, February 15th, and before email, and so I called her brothers in Las Vegas to notify them.
We even delayed her burial a day to make sure that they would be there, but they both were no shows, how sad, but over a thousand people were, since my parents lived in a retirement village at the time. And today I had no chance to be a no show, since I was NOT immediate family, just a niece. What would any of you do in this situation?
Well to me it was a no brainer… email deserves email returned, and so I wrote an email note of condolence.
Dear Cous:
For your sake I am truly sorry for your loss of your father, at 94.
Unfortunately, I suppose all that goes through my mind now is that when I called him to tell him that his sister, my Mom, died at age 70, and I was only 31 at that time, when I called him, and his reaction was hard to understand.
We held up the funeral for an entire day thinking that he and Uncle B---. Would be there, but they were both a no show, (literally over a thousand people did show up, family and friends, friends were from their retirement village, thus the enormous turnout) and so I do somewhat understand why you are having just your immediate family.
At first I thought you were quite cold telling me such news online, but I do understand your grief, and your way of handling things.
Who knows if I would have not done the same thing if my parents had died in this era, not as they did in 1982 and 1986?
Please with the utmost sincerity accept our deepest sympathy to you, T-- and R-----, and all else who loved and cared deeply for him.
And yes I do remember how you and Y made up for your Dad's not coming to my Mom's funeral and for that I have always been grateful! Thank you both!
With love and caring,
T
I know cold and heartless maybe too?
I guess that’s two less relatives for me, huh?
I really hope not, but he is a man (my cousin) and is 66 years old, you would think he could have called!
I called him when I found out about my brother and niece dying.
Oh, who knows…?
I thought we were family, but I guess not.
Not a good start for the New Year after all.
I loved my cousins but I guess they don’t feel the same.
Good night.

Up yet?
How did your New Year’s Eve go?
Ours was basically uneventful, which I think is pretty good.
We managed to relax, and go wild only with an order of Calzones and an antipasto delivered to go along with our own red wine.
Wow, we are two crazy kids!
Somehow we did mange to stay awake long enough to watch the Waterford Crystal Ball drop in Times Square, a tradition for thirty-seven years.
Although, I must admit I do believe the last two years I think we went to bed early, wild ones as we are!
We had some nice pleasantries occur today; our number one son called to send his well wishes for the New Year, but admitted that at only thirty-seven years old while spending the evening with his girlfriend he too fell asleep, and woke up to drive home and fell back asleep before ten, could it be hereditary?
Then we received two emails from Hubby’s Bro with PICS of two of his five grands’, these were the grandsons, he has three grand-daughters too and he also sent us New Year’s Eve well wishes.
My good old friend from my writer’s group sent us an online card too!
Hubby later on called his Mom to wish her well, and she was once again acting quite like herself; which is good news!
I think a rather nice beginning to the year.
Now there is some discussion on how to say this New Year, 2010.
Some are saying twenty-ten, and others are saying two thousand ten.
I do believe either is correct…but this conversation could last until 2011, LOL!
Who cares accept the banks for what you write on your checks, but not many of us use that form of payment these days. I don’t know about you but I have been paying all my bills online for the last several years, and I use a debit card for most other things even groceries. I enter all transactions on my computer when I arrive home and verify them nearly daily online with my bank; very careful and to the penny I am happy to say!
The only thing that irks me is that even when we do our own personal banking shopping what-have you electronically and just about immediately, when it comes to a return monies transaction it takes them, the other party you dealt with sometimes takes days or even weeks to correct theirs! Why is that?
Another unanswered or perhaps just a rhetorical question to ponder… on that moment of wonderment I will bid you a good night to all and to all count those blessings and we will too!
